with mr keane slowing down on pace....who do ull think whould be the rite person to replace him....i watched Mr. Davids yesterday night....could it be him

Baraja would be the best player we could possibly get.

If valencia dont make the champions league next season (celta vigo are very close in 5th)... then they may have to sell him... quality player and im sure they wouldnt want to sell him to barca or real...

failing that its the usual suspects of

Viera (no chance)
Davids(very high wages... but think of the novilty glasses the shop could sell)
Van Bommel (I think he has some family difficulties at the moment and may be reluctant to move)
Djemba (unproven but apparently lots of potential... just never when I see him... the only similarity I can see to viera is he's big... but Ive only seen him play twice so he may be good?)

although if we could get him in the Barca fire sale I would like to see Inesta come over but I recon he is one of the few players they will be reluctant to sell

He isn't good enough to be our midfield general. Sad but true.

Keano need to be replaced?

Not in my book.

Lets face it. We're not going to find anyone who plays the game with the flair and passion of Roy Keane. We already have an excellent player in Nicky Butt and would also be able to experiement with Scholes/Veron/Beckham in Roy's spot, especially if we buy a player like Ricardo Quaresma.

I agree, I'd love to see what OShea could do in the middle. or, as someone else said Baraja, not seen loads of him, but when i have seen him, hes been quality.

...would like to have seen Barry Ferguson come on board, but no joy there as he has just signed up for the Gers again

Ferguson and Van Bommel are the only realistic signings.

Baraja IMO is the best central midfielder in the world.

I reckon fortune is better than butt too, he can run with the ball pass well and is a good tackler. But thats a case for another day!!

vieira!!!.....aresenal may need the money to build their stadium....but maybe o'shea could be the answer...seeems to be pretty great at everything else

John O'Shea always comes across as too nice to play in Keano's role. If he could develop a bit of a ruthless streak, then he'd be our man - he's obviously got the ability.

But you have to remember, when Keano goes you don't just lose the ability he has - you lose the inspiring player who everyone else looks to when the going gets hard.

Patrick Vieira is the only other player who has all the same qualities as Keano.

And I've said this before, - there is no such thing as an unbuyable player ... money talks in football, and we've got more than anyone else.

Anyone else except Real Madrid :(

Goes missing in games, poor temperament, and I would say a cheaper, poorer version of Nicky Butt without the skill and commitment. IMHO of course.....

;)

But seriously....stay OFF those drugs they're doing you no good at all..... ;)

Michael Stewart. ;)

Some people have had too much of a good thing. Like Cantona and Schmeichel, Keane isnt a player you can just replace - he's a unique talent. We'll never get a player of his stature at the club again - even SAF said he is the biggest influence we've ever had.

Baraja is the man. He or Vieira but he's a no-no.

Davids is on the downslide too IMO.

Dejan stankovic.Has had a fantastic season at lazio and knows where the back of the net is, and should come relatively cheaply. Baraja would be fantastic but will never be sold by valenica.

Kean may play for a long time. Fernando Hierro started his career as an ofensive midfielder, when Antic was coach in Real. He was top scorer in Spanish League most of season, and he finished second.

And now he's a central defender, he's near to 36, and Real doesn't want to let him leave.

Kean could do well such a thing.

Keano is in my eyes UNITED thru and thru, however as the saying goes "time waits for no man!" Keano WILL be a first class centre half - maybe next season. Replacing him WILL NOT BE EASY - The only player how could follow him is Vierra and there is no chance of getting him !
We need to use the players we have - there is no way the board (the suits) will back another big spending spree and anyway who apart from the above could fill GOD'S shoes <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />
Butt and or Fletcher to move in !

Baraja would be my absolute favourite to replace Keane - what was his get-out clause again? Sadly it will never happen.

Sorry to disappoint but the old Keano is back next season!

And Fortune will be his buddy in the middle!

Wouldn´t mind van Bommel and I´d rather have him than Baraja, although Baraja is the better player. Van Bommel would be the better player for us.

Bazza Ferguson would be a too big gamble IMO.

We should sell beckham then buy vierra. Money talks, even aresnal would not refuse over 30 million pounds.

Fortune looks strong enough for me.he's quick and dosn't take any shit on the field somthing i guess Keno has taught him.I thing he should start next season.

fortune to start ... please ...he is and never will be more than a squad player

Veira is the player who could replace Keano, but thats if we're looking for exactly the same type of player. John O'Shea would grow into the role and will probably end up there. We have Seba and Scholes/Butt/Becks/Fortune/P Neville/Stewart/Fletcher and thats before we buy anyone else. Lets give a chance to the players we have, remeber the midfield when we beat Arse 2-0, and didnt Phil play a stormer.

I agree we have the depth most clubs can only dream of and a great youth system.

If we have the cash to get hold of a new midfielder then we should do all we can to get Nedved. The man is pure quality. Works hard, tackles, defends, breaks up attacks, runs with the ball at pace, creates chances, scores great goals and never stops working. Whether he'll leave CL champions elect Juve is another matter though.

Pavel Nedved has had a better season than any other midfielder in Europe. He's too attacking though to simply replace Keano. Same goes for Ruben Baraja - although his one man midfield show was mighty impressive against Inter.
