Who are/were your sporting heroes?

...And who's hero is a fecking badminton player?

The closest thing I had to a sporting hero when I was growing up would probably be Giggs. Being left footed I was always him on the playground.

Of course, Ronaldo is an icon by default. Most people who grew up in the same period would probably consider him the best player they've ever seen.

rofl epic fail with that badminton comparison.

I chose Stockton and Scholes because well they are dudes who get the feck on with their lives, I don't know shit about them outside of their game, I very rarely see them in interviews or promoting themselves, they are loyal as hell, neither demanding big salaries despite both being brilliant and could have easily done so, they live normal family lives, it's exactly how I'd be if I did make it in sports. Stockton even took a pay decrease to help Utah out once and it worked since they went to back to back finals afterwards.

The rest that I choose speak for themselves really, except Patrick Kane who's just a fecking cool dude.

No, all real sports require some form of athleticism.

Two others I've just remembered - in squash, which I used to play an awful lot of had the greate Jonah Barrington and Jahanghir Khan and later Jansher Khan incredible players - Jahanghir being just awesome. Think he was like unbeaten for ten years or something ridiculous and if you get to play a bit of squash you'll know how mad that is

To add to my cycling post, in terms of football I found it very hard to not look past Beckham. Every kid wanted to be him.
