Whitney Houston Dead

one of the greatest female vocalists of all time

We're all assuming drugs of course, but has a cause of death been announced?

Only 8 years older than me. I didn't even realise she'd been on drugs for years until recently. Houston and Michael Jackson had it all. And got nothing. :(

If only someone had told her sooner: Houston, you have a problem.

Sorry.

Drugs are harmless, don't forget that folks.

RIP......one of the best female vocalists of all time.

How do you know? Of the past 100 years maybe.

I was totally baffled when I woke up to the news yesterday. Call me soft if you like but I grew up on Whitney. She gave me and my family memories. RIP.

I found her music to be a bit lightweight pop fluff but there is no doubt that she had a brilliant voice. To wreck you voice and life and then die so young is a tragedy.

Very nice tribute at the Grammy's and Jennifer Hudson sang 'I Will Always Love You'. Hudson has a great voice but she couldn't get close to Houston on that song.

All these eulogies are overplaying her importance for me. Yes she had an incredible voice and and a good career but her long lasting legacy will be of someone who liked her drugs to much.

you can't deny she had the most wonderful voice though

As I said, she had an incredible voice (which she also destroyed with the drugs) Don't get me wrong she was an incredble talent, but the way they're going on about it on the news and making comparisons to Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, dunno it just doesn't work for me (and Whitney had a better voice able to do more vocal gymnstics than the pair of them). I just saw a segment on the beeb this morning and it they were raising her up to saint status the way they were talking, it irked me.

I see what you mean. Yes she was certainly no saint, which was such a shame as she had a child, and it seemed, family support. Just shows you how easy it must be to descend into a drugs spiral

Been there me-self, so I appreciate it more than most. I for one am very glad I was poor at the time as being like that with neverending cash would have killed me. There was some singer this morning speaking on how once Whitney commented on the nice dress she had and about how what she was actually doing and saying was blah blah blah, and not the real meaning of either she actually just liked the dress,or she was just being nice. The singer then went on to say she was on the drugs because she was like Nina and Ella and needed to express herself artistically and let the hurt out as it was part of her, and not the fact she more than likely just loved getting twonked off her skull.

Pretty much, great vocalist but she made no lasting impression on music IMO.

Great singer of average songs.

Shame to see someone die and just goes to show how hard it can be to kick drugs regardless of the resources available to them.

did you see the ' crack is whack' interview?

One of the best voices I've ever heard, and she sold nearly 200 million records.

She has clearly left a mark on the music business. She will always be remembered as one of the greatest female artists.

God rest her soul. RIP Whitney.

I disagree with this. She'll be remembered for her voice and music. It's clear from the response to her death.

Not really he's right, technically as a vocalist she was excellent.

The pity is that she was at her best at during probably the most average period music, as an art form, has experienced since the emergence of popular music.

I didn't say he was wrong, just that it sounded a bit gay. It is weaste after all.
