Which will be this summer's muppet thread?

I'm not sure I ever truly believed Vidal was going to come but I had so much hope. Constantly hooked. True heartbreak was Thiago. I genuinely thought it was just a matter of time before we'd get him.

I think it will depend on what positions we have signed up early and which one are still vacant. If we don't get a defender early, it could be Varane or Stones. Another possibility is a creative player like James. Pogba is also a good shout.

My money's on Varane.

How many posts did the Sergio Ramos thread have last summer?

You should have seen the Hazard and Thiago ones. With Hazard there was a bunch of us watching a livestream of Hazard's farewell at Lille with some expecting him to announce his next club during the farewell. In the end he announced his club on twitter.

Thiago had the De Gea ballsigning then loads of gifs by @Olly and others

Wow  the hazard one, I'm sure if I was on here then I would be been watching it live too, I love getting my Muppet on.

Like I said though The vidal thread was the one that got me, it was my first full Muppet mode, it's quite sad but if I woke up in the middle of the night whatever time it may have been I actually used to pick up my phone and check the thread in hopes we would've announced him at 3.30 am or something :wenger:

Vidal thread scarred me. my phone battery woukd be dead in 4 hrs from a full charge, couldn't concentrate that whole summer. I think Pogba could trump everything though.

Don't see any clear candidates this summer unless Zlatan's gets protracted.

The Thiago one was the best/worst. Loads of funny posts/gifs that ended in a genuine heartbreak (first and only time it happened to me). Vidal's I just spent too much time reading. Got a few data usage warnings because of that thread.

Pogba would make a lot of sense, particularly because I expect City to push pretty hard for him and we'll doubtless therefore see United's name frequently invoked as a negotiating ploy throughout what is sure to be a protracted saga. Failing that, any Real Madrid player we might feasibly be interested in (James, Kroos, Varane) as any deal will surely be tangled up with De Gea and the inevitable circus surrounding his future, which will likely drag through till September. What fun.

Next few pages. Thread ended up getting 140 more pages in a week. Really was crazy.

James Rodriguez stands as good a chance as any imo. He's high profile, strongly linked with leaving his club, and his high prospective price and the likelihood of his club being awkward(wrt de Gea) could cause the deal to drag if we are interested. It's already reached 17 pages which is a good start.

I have a feeling the players angling for a transfer might try to wrap it up before the Euros. As in Griezman and Pogba.

Both seem to be at the absolute prime moment for their next move and an injury at the Euros could cost them a lot long term.

I remember following that Vidal thread post-WC '14. With that in mind, I think any stand out performer at the Euros who wasn't previously firmly established (think James) will become this year's muppet thread. I actually think we'll get our main targets fairly easily this year (benefits of working with Mourinho and Mendez).

2010: Mesut Özil (5,779)
2011: Wesley Sneijder (13,667)
2012: Eden Hazard (8,851)
2013: Thiago Alcantara (15,735)
2014: Arturo Vidal (25,857)
2015: Pedro (5,973)
Pedro thread was bigger than the Sergio Ramos 2015 thread?

I don't think people care enough about James to turn it into a mega thread. There's only so many times you can say "don't want, because..." It's the positive threads that get juices flowing.

This time of years brings out a feeling of nostalgia for the Hamsik thread. The poster who pushed that idea hard went so far as to value other muppet targets on a Hamsik scale.

True innovation like that should always be remembered.

I don't think there will be one- i'm hoping not anyway- nice swift transfers.
Yeah the Euros looming, a new manager for us (as well as Bayern, City, Chelsea replacing managers) might mean we look to get deals done early.

It won't be any of the ones already running, imo. Either a superstar uses us for a better deal or we see the majority of deals concluded in a reasonable amount of time.

Pogba or Griezmann.

That Thiago thread was something epic though. The dissection over the "See you in Manchester" part was brilliant. @Olly and @jeston's gifs were also incredible. There was one where Woody and Thiago were on ship which was amazing but I don't remember the whole gif.

Zlatan thread has over 85 pages

Nah, so far 18% don't want him and 10% aren't sure. The annual summer muppet thread is about a player who almost 95% of the Caf wants. Hoping for a better year, 2015 was dismal.

Edit: Also, I'm throwing in Saul into the muppet mix!

Edit 2: FFS, just saw he's signed a new contract.

I guess the winner was Renato Sanches.

Hard to feel too bad about it considering the Pogba deal though.

Read OP.

'About a player you don't sign'.

I feel in light of the insane levels of muppetry surounding pp we perhaps should wave that proviso? Or is that cheating?
