Television Which Should I Watch First?

I'm going to be laid up for a good few weeks soon, and I've never seen a plethora of what are deemed to be the best TV shows of all time. So I'm going to take the opportunity to watch them while I can, without work getting in the way.

The main ones I've never seen are as follows:

The Wire
The Shield
Soprano's
Band of Brothers

So which one should I throw myself into first?
 
Watch The Shield first, then the others in any order.
 
1. The Wires
2. Bands of Brother

I haven't seen Soprano's or The Shields.
 
Order doesn't really matter tbh. I've not seen The Shield.

Instinct says Sopranos.
 
Doesn't matter, when all are great. I would go worst to best. Worst in this case still being great. The Shield first, the Wire last, whatever for the middle two.

Sopranos - 86 hours (one season per day)
Band of Brothers - 10 hours (one day)
The Wire - 60 hours (one season per day)

Never watched the Shield. Can anyone tell me what level they rate it for all time?
 
I'd break up the wire and soprano's. Watch something else between

I'd have it well below the other three, which for me are in the top 5 of all time, so still pretty entertaining.
 
Band of Brothers, if only because the others will take ages to get through.
 
The Wire starts a bit slow then evolves into arguably the best of the lot and best of anything else ever made. I'd go with that first. The Sopranos is the other GOAT contender but I'd put something shorter in the middle i.e Band of Brothers.

Only bother with The Shield if you've got time left at the end.
 
Band of Brothers is only 10 episodes and they're all class so you might as well knock it out first.
 
The sopranos

Then watch it again

Then watch any of the other three

Then sopranos again.

Yes its that good!

Band of Brothers. It's great, but also not as much time sink as the others so you can jump to something else quickly as well.
 
@Big Andy Sopranos or the Wire first.

Gut says Sopranos also I’ll buy Benzema off you for more cash as well as Donny to help out
 
I’d start with Band of Brothers as it’s a limited series, then go on to The Sopranos next.

The Shield isn’t in the same tier as the others, so I’d leave that until last. Still a good show though.
 
Sopranos. Anyone telling you otherwise is wrong. I wouldn't trust 'em.
 
I haven't watched Band of Brothers, so I'm going to ignore it.

1 The Wire
2 The Shield
3 The Sopranos

The Wire takes the most attention to appreciate, so I'd watch it while you're still "fresh", then I'd move on to The Shield, because it's rather fast paced and approaches your mind from a different angle, which gives you a clean break from The Wire. And then you can finish with The Sopranos, which is perhaps somewhere in-between, easy to watch, but also with subtle elements.

I just never got round to watching them, not sure how but once they get too far in, I just think it's too much of an investment at the time, and then never get round to it once the season has finished.
 
Haven’t seen the shield.

Band of Brothers first. Extremely rewarding over a short duration. You’ll feel productive knocking it out in a few days to a week.

toss up between the other two after that.

You can't watch the worst one last. It'll be a let down.
 
Watch Band of Brothers first.. Regardless of quality or content its the shortest so you can tick on off the quickest!

Precisely my thoughts. 10 amazing episodes to warm up before getting into the longer series. All are fantastic (i can't speak for the Shield but have heard nothing but very positive things).

People say that a lot about most great TV shows. They say it like it's a flaw, almost.

Usually the best shows focus on character development right off the bat to establish emotional resonance with viewers. Usually that comes in the way of more deliberate and slower storytelling.

Almost right away if someone tells me that the first episodes in the first season of a show are quick paced or frantic, it usually pans out to be a 7/10 show.
 
I'd go

The Wire
Band of Brothers
Sopranos

All three are the best of the best when it comes to TV but watching them that way you avoid having to watch two long series back to back but also get a change of pace in the middle. Band of Brothers is intense! Sopranos has quite a bit of comic relief for a show about mobsters. Funnier than most comedies TV shows!

The Shield is also great but a level down from the others. Deffo worth watching but I'd get the others watched first personally.
 
I'd honestly would not start with Band of Brothers. It's too much of a high. As good as the others are, they are slow burners. Leave BoB for the middle or the end.
