Which midfielder should we buy to give Pogba more freedom

I would love to see a midfield of Pereira Matic Pogba
We need to get a cover for Matic. Jesse could stand in for either Andreas or Pogba and for some games even Gomes. We need good cove for Matic.

45 Mins more...

*Insert Inappropriate comment about Wenger and his Morning habits.

I think Jorginho and SMS would perfectly compliment Pogba and Matic.
We need mobility in midfield man, ability to cover ground and close down the opposition while at thesame time bben technically gifted.
I have seen Kovacic plays and I think he had be a good foil for pogba and Matic.
Weigl would be a perfect long term replacement for Matick/Carrick.

If sign Sanchez, it's a game changer (excuse the pun) regarding signing a midfielder. We won't be signing a Griezmann so the finances will be focused on other positions. If Shaws form continues, that again is more savings. I think we might go big on the CM player so I'm fully expecting 100m player...

That's exactly how i see it too. I know it's not realistic at this moment but things can change very quickly in football. He was wanted by Barcelona last summer and he confessed that he considered about leaving after questioning the club's ambitions. So, it's not realistic but not impossible either imo. We should do everything we can to lure him away from PSG. He's the perfect midfielder for us. And his agent is Raiola too. It may be a bonus as he will probably do everything to get him transferred from one club to another like he did with Ibra.

Didn't know that.

--------Lukaku
Martial-Pogba-Sanchez
---Matic------Seri

Koke would be perfecto

Such an underrated range of passing and decent defensively/puts in a shift. Could sit a bit deeper and allow Poggy to roam

Koke is a box to box player so I don't think he would be asked to stay deep if we signed him.

I don't actually think he is but that's not the point.

He has a great pass on him as well. I'm fine with a b2b as long as they can help control the game when necessary - he can also take the ball under pressure which is something we're poor at.

Matic has to run less, Koke is buzzing around and switching the play. Pog is being God. Perfect

Since Barella's finally linked with us, I'll advocate for his signing. Good at dribbling out of tight situation, brave, aggressive and defensive sound. Good vision and range of passing

Sanchez won't be shoved out on the right it's not where he plays. Pogs will be left and most likely Sanchez through the middle with Lukaku up top and on current for Lingard out right.

You saying Pogba on the left over Martial in that 4-2-3-1? Really hope he's not relegated to the bench.

I still think Pogba is best in a midfield 3. Surely we can make this formation work with Sanchez. I trust Mourinho either way.

I could see Lingard being utilized in like the Koke role. A wide midfielder who comes deep and acts as a third midfielder, who also helps offensively.

Matic
Verratti - Pogba
Alexis - Dybala - Martial
Make it happen Woody you bald muppet
This really is the ultimate muppet dream for me.

I'd love to see Verratti-Matić-Pogba in a midfield three. Verratti is still only 25 and I don't think it's unreasonable to think he could be interested in the move and PSG would sell him, although for huge money.

Dybala isn’t capable/suited to play as main striker. He’s either a SS playing off the main striker or a bit deeper as an attacking midfielder.

And either way Lukaku stays upfront.

Hence 'muppet', I am well aware he's not coming to OT, nevermind as a replacement for Lukaku :D I just love this boy and I think Dybala could well be top3 in the world in the near future. But it was the Verratti-Matić-Pogba trio that wound me up.

Raiola is his agent, so there's always the potential for a move to United. If we're still going to have one major signing in the Summer then it's not impossible for it to be Verratti.

What incentive would there be for PSG to sell? Last time Verratti wanted out, it didn't go down well.

Jean Seri for me depending on his condition... Otherwise Kovacic.

You'd take Seri before Kovacic?

Yeah, it's not 100% out of the question but we'd have to appraoch it only if PSG were willing to sell, we don't want to antagonize them with Raiola's antics.

Last time PSG didn't have to deal with his new agent Raiola, who's known for getting his way. Interestingly, it was actually Zlatan that told Verratti to make Raiola his agent. And yeah, his deal ends in 2019 so there's going to be a lot of pressure from PSG to either give him a huge contract or to cash out this Summer.

Verratti got rid of his former agent because he failed, I'm pretty sure he's aware of Raiola's reputation and his ability to force through transfers before appointing him.

Verratti said:
He's got experience and a good relationship with clubs, and Zlatan recommended him to me. In football and even outside football, every time I've listened to Zlatan, I've made a good decision.

Still think Axel Witzel would be a great buy. I know he's on a fortune in China but always thought he'd do well here. Pretty tenacious and has a real engine.

If you believe the hype and don't mind signing someone directly from the Brazilian league Arthur would be a great fit. Rotate him with Herrera until he's acclimated.

Oh wow, had no idea about the bolded. I assumed he'd signed another long-term contract recently, so that changes things a lot. I'm sure Zlatan has good things to say about us as well.

I do like both but yeah, I think I would.

Seri, especially when playing deep is a joy to watch when stringing passes forward. He would influence our transitional play from defence/midfield to attack much more effectively than I feel Kovačić ever could. He's something of a hybrid of a DLP and B2B player, which is exactly what's needed. Also feel Seri is the more productive player of the two (more goals/assists) as well as having a bigger engine and greater passing range. What I do like about both of them is that they are great at shielding the ball and great dribblers and that's what's really needed from us, a midfielder that can negate the opposition press in big games.

The only thing that worries me is his condition. If there's something we can do around that then we'd have a truly excellent midfielder.

Seri isn't coming. He has a medical problem that prohibits him from playing in cold weathers.

Here's the usual candidates and why they won't be coming.

Jorginho - thrives in a team that is being set up to dominate possession. Looks pretty light weight and doesn't seem to be one who is able to play well without the ball.

Seri - Medical condition. Ain't coming to Manchester.

Ozil - Is the same as playing Lingard there. Better offensive quality but defensively, not so. We need somoene who is less attacking minded than Pogba but more attacking minded than Matic. Balance is the key.

SMS - Read reports about him being good slightly deeper than the no.10 or AM role. Could be a good player to slot in beside Matic. Same country as well. Price is tricky, Age is a little bit young.

I still think we should get someone in the Carrick mold. Someone who drives play forward via passing and not running.

I haven't seen a lot of him and when I watched Nice a while back it was Cyprien that caught the eye, has he came to the fore since Cyprien has the knee ligament injury? It sounds like he might be able to cover for Matic in some games as well as playing as a #8.

Didn't he extend his contract to 2021? I wish he hadn't signed the contract in 2016, we would have a great chance of getting him this summer if his contract expires in 2019.

The bolded part is not true unfortunately as he extended his contract in the summer of 2016 which expires in 2021 according to transfermarkt. But we should try to get him nonetheless imo.

Not sure if it's been covered but I don't think we need an exceptional passer or Regista. Pogba is a fantastic passer but what we lack is mobility in the middle.

With the ball and without it.

I'd prefer energy, stamina, touch and pace in the middle, passing isnt something I would concern with.

Oxlaide against City was a good example (Not saying he is good enough) but always showed for the ball, gave his other midfielders an option and could drive into space, avoid the press. This makes the DMC job easy when he is marked or closed down, can give it to a player with the ability to keep the ball or avoid the press.

Sounds like Lingard.

Not an easy shout but the most important signing in the summer if he allows Pogba to get to the next level. With Sanchez coming and Shaw looking like he's the real deal again, the transfer fund looks healthy without the need of a Griezmann or Rose (150m) so I would look to go hard for a modric or Kroos et al....
