SAF, Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and Solskjaer. Of those managers, which left our team in the worst state?

Not who was the worst manager, or who did the worst job while they here, just who left the team most in need of rebuilding at the point they left. By which I mean in terms of personnel, organisation, everything.

SAF clearly left the squad. The rest have left us in various states of disarray. It's like choosing between which pile of dog shit looks the most appealing.

It's so obviously Ole.

The only one who after he had left, I was sure the results would not be better.

Solskjaer by an absolute landslide.

From the squad that Mourinho left, bar Sanchez, all the other players were at peast sellable and the next manager could actually sell and invest.
Now we have Maguire, Martial, DDG, AWB, Rashford with more 1 million wages per week that we cannot even sell.

Solskjaer by far. The worst manager in the clubs history

Moyes gutted our institutional memory and caused Rio, Vidic, and Evra to all feck off in his less than one season.

This is the worst moment in United’s history for as long as I’ve followed them, but that doesn’t mean Ole did the most damage. He didn’t take over the reigning champions.

Also, people lauding Mourinho’s trophies like the EL, he COMPLETELY gave up on the league so he knew we’d have it in the tank to foil the likes of mighty Celta Vigo. He managed his seasons like a coward.

The only thing that was holding the current squad back was the manager. That was the widely held opinion on here in November anyway .

Ole, anyone that says different is lying

The manager that got us 3ed and 2ed in his last seasons and brought Sancho and Varane in his last summer.

I swear if 10 years from now we lose a League Cup game, some posters will find a way to blame Ole.

Ole bent this club over in so many ways.

Has to be Ole. Who knew handing over the keys to someone completely unexperienced in any way shape or form would result in this.

Maguire waste of money
AWB waste of money
DVB waste of money
Pellestri still nothing yet
Amad still nothing yet
Tom Heaton pointless
Alex Telles not good enough
Sancho still has a lot to prove
Dan James has already gone
Varane is injured all the time
Cavani is injured all the time
Bruno is about the only decent signing and he has the capability to frustrate as much as anyone

The cultural reboot was nothing but a load of crap.

Our midfield players today were the same midfield players we put out against Everton when we lost 4-0 to them around 3/4 years ago

Van Gaal ruined the squad the most I say.

Pretty much all of his signings failed.

We thought Martial was good though, but he was not.

One thing that's common through our manager selections is the player power. They know they can do whatever they like, and if they don't like the manager then they can still complain and leak shit to the media to get their way. Every time things looked bad, there were always reports of the players being unhappy, not liking the training, etc.

Ole absolutely bent to their will. He catered to their every whim. Sure they were happier but we were never improving, the tactics were paper thin and we had no sense of direction. And yet we persisted with 3 seasons of this, spunking millions on players who also believed they can do whatever they wanted.

And for what? No trophies, constantly bottling semis and finishing far far away from 1st place.

Exactly. Many were saying we shouldn't even buy new players because we have a good enough squad and things get fixed with the mythical coaching. Now that we are worse then ever with the hipster manager is all about the unmanageable squad

This. And he was given more leeway than any other manager, allowed to continue his mollycoddling and sucking up to players, refusing to cash in on players winding their contracts down, acceptance of poor results and performances by a lot of fans who had their ‘99 tinted specs on. Ole has destroyed the club and there will be a big period of rebuild required.

Wouldn't say I thought he was was the only thing holding the team back but even having wanted Ole out, I was definitely suckered by the narrative pushed by the club that he had rebuilt the side. "He left us in a better place than when he took over". Safe to say I no longer think that was the case. His supposed rebuild was built on sand.

But this isn't a thread to shit on Ole, I actually was wondering if recency bias is making me forget how bad we were when other managers left.

Amazing isn’t it? If anyone bothers reading the posts when Ole was getting us to 2nd and 3rd place and a few semi finals, the opinion here was how he is wasting the best years of such a talented squad.
People really were thinking „If someone like Ole can achieve that with this squad then imagine what a half decent, let alone a top manager could do“.

Moyes left us in the lowest state relative to what he took over. Ole has left us in the worst overall. This is the lowest United have been in many of our lifetimes. But the Glazers and the group of players are far more to blame than any manager.

Who in the feck cares. The Owners have left us worse overall. They’d be wise now to defer and listen to real footballing people. The Woodward era there to be witnessed, an absolute failure.

Should have make a poll. Curious about the percentages. Its Ole for me hands down one of the worst manager we ever had

Remember when a certain portion of this fanbase wanted Ole to be moved upstairs as DoF because he had done such a tremendous job in the market with his rebuild, that his successor would be walking in a successful foundation

So much for that, he pissed away more money than any other manager and the biggest damage he did was to erode any semblance of culture we had for winning. Standards dropped through the pits during his reign, which is why his fanboys continuously parade 2nd/3rd without ever accounting for extra-ordinary circumstances with pandemic and lowest ever points tally in PL history for those finishes

Maguire and AWB for 140 million - enough said.

If that's such a big issue for you, you just need to settle for the club signing players in the max £20m range. You shouldn't be crying like a little bitch about the glazers not backing managers all summer, then complain about the fact that players worth 10s of millions of pounds have power and influence.

In fact, you'd be better off following clubs in the lower leagues - below the championship. You can watch a managerial pet project develop there.

Yea, he did feck all of coaching with them, spend money to "build" this shower of shit, 3 years of not being able to coach/figure how to brake teams in final third, the moment they close doors for counter attacks by giving us to have a ball, we were screwed, for 3 years. Guess that funny

I've been consistent throughout that this squad wasn't good enough. It's why I wasn't critical of Ole when he was getting 2nd and 3rd with it. I said not buying a DM would be his downfall this season.

We probably are the furthest away from City now than since how LVG left us. But recruitment shouldn't be all down to the manager.

Ole was the biggest waste of space. Because he neither won anything nor did he coach the team or build it in a manner fit for playing front foot football. Just 4 years and huge sums of money chasing nostalgia.

As for squad, it'd be better to post the squads. Not sure what it would prove as then you'd have to get in to who is whose player and the rationale typically would be that a manager SHOULD leave a better team than his predecessors.

Really tricky to say, they've all been very costly and monumental failures.

After all the talk of sorting things out by Ole and the board saying no more silly big signings they went down the same route and then some. £130m on AWB and Maguire could be a set back to solve for anyone coming in.

The new manager will have to heavily coach some to get by and maybe delay their plans while we shuffle out incompatible players. Going to be interesting to see who can be salvaged.

Ole went too hard on the 'back to British' agenda. Maguire, AWB, James... none of them was ever good enough.

Well there is a context for every single manager, looking our manager jumps, Moyes to LvG, then to JM from LvG, none of them have anything similar style wise, none. Blind plays football under LvG, JM couldnt wait to get rid of him, we extended Afro`s contract under JM, sell him under Ole because he represents non United way in eyes of the fans and guess Ole too. etc

Moyes because he gutted the backroom teams as well as Mia managing the playing side.

But feck me if it was a photo finish between him and Ole.
