Which league and which team are the most popular ones in your country?

that's actually a valid point.. but then again, ECL games are played at 2:30 also.. so it maybe a little contradictory...

i do know a lot of people who watch La Liga.. but these people are usually more of the EPL fans anyway..

i guess it's a big mix in Asia.. everyone watches every league (except of coz for hardcore fans like me who only watch the EPL and the ECL).

The big influence must also be the gambling... seems like everyone place bets in all sorts of matches here in Thailand.. You would think Thai people don't know Division one, but they place bets in those games too!

The english league has always been the most popular football for tv viewers especially for malaysians and singaporeans.

And it's taken away quite a number of fans from watching the local leagues too.

that's the same in Thailand.

If you watch the ESPN football focus show regularly then you would remember the episode where they were talking about the AFC President (Velappan) lodging complaints that too many games from European leagues are being shown and the fact that it may be affecting attendances at local games.

I think it's a load of crap though since the europrean games are shown in late in the evening or late at night while the local matches are played in the afternoon.

Personally, i think it's the poor promotion.. i don't think South East Asian fans like going to games because it's not properly promoted. You move a little further out to Japan where EPL are also shown a lot you can see that their J-League is doing alright.

It comes down to how the organizers set the league up... Local people here tend to pay more attention to international games because of the publicity involved. You would see a lot of people going to qualifiers of top competitions like the World Cup or Asian Games, while the local league matches which are poorly promoted have very small attendances - even when ticket prices are as low as 400Baht for season tickets! (that US$10 for the whole season and you are allowed to watch ANY game you want!)

Unfortunately the most popular league in Sydney is Rugby League. The national 'soccer' league is badly organised and I don't know many who go.

Of foreign leagues, English is the most popular. We are easily the most popular side. Liverpool are next but there seenm to be a lot of 'lifelong' Arsenal fans emerging (funnily enough). Leeds are also popular because of Kewell and Viduka.

Lots of fans have no knowledge before the premiership. A lot don't believe United haven't been in the top flight forever. People often refer to us as 'Manchester'. I reckon it shows a lack of knowledge but it is a great way to insult City.

yeh here in melbourne afl is the best supported.
the only people i know who go to watch nsl(south melbourne)other than my self are people from my soccer club. Man Utd are easily the most popular epl team followed by arse, sheep scum, scoucers. i know one newcastle fan. also popular is serie a with tons of juve, milan, inter, and roma fans
