Where is the genius...

Scooter has been here for years.

Metal's already done it with mixed results.

Therion and Empyrium being rather good.

Music for 18 Musicians by Steve Reich. It's not dead-Teuton-in-a-wig classical, and it doesn't have drums, and the several simultaneous rhythms will perhaps lead to peculiar dancing, and in fact I just felt like mentioning Music for 18 Musicians somewhere, and this almost looked like a good place to do it.

Thanks tards, will check those out

Carl Craig & Moritz von Oswald - Recomposed

It's the real deal

Hmm... I thought that was a bit shit...

Julian Casablancas from the Strokes tried to do just that in his solo album. He studied classical music and is in awe of Benjamin Britten, and at the same time is at the helm of one of the most creative bands in rock music (arguably).

There's a bit of Bach in this one, is this what you think of Plech? Check the solo at 3:23 !

That's a nice song but it's not at all what I mean... I'm talking fecking symphonies here!

Already done circa 1960. Nut Rocker by B Bumble and the Stingers.

Will check it out but there's an awful lot you can do now you couldn't do in 1960!

Rap shows it can be done successfully, don't see why dance can't be fused with classical either.

THe best effort Ive ever seen or heard is by Jeff Mills. This is a version of his techno classic "The Bells". The original is a fecking epic tune that stands the test of time.

Full concert is a must see for any fans of Jeff Mills or techno generally

And just for good measure here's the original master piece

Some of Aaron Funk's (Venetian Snares) music is getting there. In fact, there's a bit of IDM in general which hints at this. Saying that, I'm probably thinking more along the lines of dance with some orchestration and, to be fair, I probably just wanted a chance to post this:

Wow...I don't even know where to start. This is just incredible. I thought Aphex's beats were out of this world, but this just goes even further. Genius, though I appreciate that a lot of people will listen to that and come to the conclusion that it was composed by a bit of a heroin addict.

3 words: Electric Light Orchestra.

failing that The Verve for their Bittersweet Symphony. the dance part would be tough. For me anyway, I'm white.

I've been looking for this awhile ago and the best I could find was this:

It has some stupid parts, but also some that are quite brilliant  .

...who's going to unite dance music with classical?

I don't mean sampling three seconds of harpsichord off a feckin synth, or using a bit of aria for a hook in a shite trance track. I mean properly complex shit.

I've been waiting for it to happen for about fifteen years.

I don't agree with this notion that dance music is just for dancing to. I listen to it more than I dance to it. Though there's something in what you say, even if you're not dancing something in you is.

And there's plenty of classical music with quite simple time signatures. A lot of Bach, for instance, some of that stuff would sound amazing with a beat.

Classical music doesn't suit the MDMA construct. If it did they would've done it by now.

I love how Plech explicitly mentions he doesn't mean putting some famous classical riff to a beat...followed by 20 videos of people posting famous classic riffs put to beats and saying, "well so and so did it well"

And you wonder why you're all spastics.

My posting 'A Fifth of Beethoven' was very tongue in cheek.

We need a tongue in cheek smiley.

Plech, I don't really understand where you're trying to get, but this is the closest I could get from a classical 'composition' blended with the catchiness of modern music.

how about this one ? Taken from the album "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix"
