Hm - a lot, or some, is depending on how the current manager situation is dealt with. Is it possible to have Ole or an interim manager in charge for the rest of the season so United can choose a long term alternative or do they have to go for the best availible now? The later seem to be Conte. Otherwise, and preferably - Pochettino, Potter, Ten Hag or likewise. At least the first two would still be around (remember Ten Hag sticking to his philosophy made him loose the CL semi final i.e. not flexible enough to challenge for the top of PL, the other two would.)
- If the first (Conte) United could challenge for the title next year, but would be in a new rebuild in five years. If the second they would be challenging for the title in five years (and either win it or possibly already have won one). City, Chelsea and possibly Newcastle will be up there too. Liverpool will be in a rebuild.
- United have a very good squad already with possiblities to develope and grow. Pogba wont be around, many of the others will. Cristiano not of course. Greenwood, Sancho, Rashford, AWB, Elanga, McTominay, Van de Beek, perhaps Henderson, perhaps Amad will be part of a steady squad. Fernandes and Varane could still give experience and class. United will have a proper DM, wich is almost for sure their next investment, but might still be in need for a second one. Maguire, though probably still there, won’t be captain anymore.
The board will still frustrate, but the club will be permanent in top 4 (or practically be promised a slot in Europes top competion in other ways) and close to the top. And win titles.
