When do we discuss potential relegation?

I’m surprised a thread hasn’t been created yet. Can we get relegated? Our squad is terrible, our form is awful. Square pegs in round holes all across the pitch. So much negatively around the club. It has all the hallmarks of a club going in the wrong direction.

We’ve lost to Wolves and West Ham away, drawn with Ipswich and Palace away. These are teams fighting the relegation zone along with Southampton, Leicester and Everton. We still need to play Leicester and Everton away from home.

Newcastle and Liverpool up next which I don’t see any points from. Then Southampton,
Brighton and Fulham. We have to get 6 pts from those 3 games.

Newcastle isn't such a bad game. They're a complete mixed bag aaway W3 D3 L3, boosted by them playing 2 out of form teams in ther last 2 away. They too drew at Palace.

I'm not exactly full of confidence for it, but definitely not condemning us to a certain loss. Anything could happen there. Suspect we'll lose to Liverpool, should beat Southampton still.

Overall not worried, the cushion is too big. Leicester letting in 3 or 4 every game under Ruud, Ipswich are bad and Southampton are gone already.

After our next two games, we'll be staring the relegation zone in the face. The Glazers and their incompetence/willful negligence have destroyed this club from the inside out. We are not going to get relegated in all probability, but we might be struggling to escape come the end of the season.

We have a really bad squad of poor to average players, a manager who can't implement his system due to these players, a club low on confidence, gaming apart at the seams and which has no money to replace the 15 or so players who are not good enough. January is likely to be quiet other than some cheap kids, so it seems likely we'll be struggling alongside The bottom clubs come the end of the season. A new low.

Even in our current predicament we’re 8 points clear I can’t see us being in danger especially when the sides looking to stay up don’t seem that strong

Our cup final is on the 16th Jan against Southampton. Win that six pointer and we will stay up.

It's highly unlikely, but then Leeds 2004 and West Ham 2003 both went down with squads you would say shouldn't have. It could happen.

If February first reaches with an unchanged squad.

We will very much be in a relegation battle.

Losses to Newcastle and Liverpool.

Possibly a win against soton at home.

Then we have Brighton at home and Fulham away, both games we could easily lose.

So that's just 3 points from the next 5 games.

If this means we get rid of the Glazers and Ineos then sign me up for a season or two in the championship
.

Imagine hoping for us to be relegated, so we can become a sports-washing construct for Qatar.

A depressing attitude which shows how far we as a club, and our fanbase, have fallen.

Would be some craic if we get relegated and win the Europa League. Champions League football in the Championship. Whoop.

I don't think we'll do that badly, but if we did neither Leicester or Ipswich have managed as much 4 points every 5 games yet. They'd close the gap by 1 at current rate.

No team is to big to be relegated.

Considering ”talent” we have we should not but considering our character and desire we could easy find us in Championship next year.

Manchester Derby in the Championship next season.

Would be high-larious

It's delusion to claim it's not possible. Physically we struggle to cope with most teams in the league.

Most Premier League seasons there are 2-3 absolutely dire teams that end up getting below 30 points, and are almost earmarked for relegation within a few months of the first game. I think that looks like it will be the case with Southampton and Ipswich at least, and probably also Leicester. We are bad, but we aren't as bad as them.

However, there are also seasons, where teams are relegated with +35 points. The record is 42 in a 38 game season. I'd say there is a non-zero chance of this happening to the club. If we fail in the transfer market for a few more windows, maybe have an injury crisis, swap managers around, and there is enough quality in the bottom of the table, there could be a perfect storm situation.

We took 1 point from a possible 6 against the 17th and 19th place teams in the league. Let's start talking about it any moment you like, at least jokingly initially.

We could be 16th when we lose the next two if both Everton and Palace win their next two games.

In February 1990, I remember we went to Millwall and a defeat would have put us in the relegation places going into March. This team included Hughes and McClair upfront. We went 0-1 down and I honestly thought at that point there was no way back.

We did fight back to win 2-1 and I went to the next home game when we beat Luton 4-1 to thankfully rise us to a mighty 13th. Point is, I’ll never forget that feeling, and relegation was a real possibility at that time, which seemed unfathomable even in big Ron’s worse moments. It can happen, if all the pieces fall against us, don’t be surprised to see us having to win a similar game come late Feb to get clear of the bottom three.

Of course we then rose like a phoenix as we were slowly building behind the scenes, so the future could well be bright, once we get through this quagmire.

I do not think we will be relegated but i think we will struggle to get into the top 10 based on current form. It will be a super human effort from Amorin and his coaches to turn this squad around. I think there needs to be a big reboot at this club so maybe being out of europe will help move some players on, bring in new players, and have a proper rebuild.

3 or 4 points from our next 5 games would be no surprise. Still don't think we'll get relegated, we'll survive by a 5 points margin.

Yeah, losing to Wolves is a punch in the gut, but relegation just isn't happening. The past three years the best of the teams in the relegation zone had like 12-15 points after 18 games, United stand at 22. Look at Leicester, the "best" of the bottom three: They have half the amount of wins compared to United, same goes for Palace and Everton. If you're not used to being this low in the table the point differences can be deceiving.

A seven point gap can be overcome quite regularly at the top of the table between a couple of top teams churning out wins regularly. But if you are 7+ points ahead of several teams in the relegation zone you are completely safe as they just don't win enough games to ever catch you.

Of our likely “winnable” games:

Southampton have a new manager, don’t they? If so then the game at OT won’t be a guaranteed win since we know how we do against the new manager bounce.

Ipswich at home should be a good bet - they completely out-fought us at their place but on the bigger OT pitch we should be able to stretch them and hold-out for a narrow win.

The Everton game is at Goodison, and will probably somehow be moved to the end of the season so that it’ll be the last game at Goodison, so we’ll have no chance.

West Ham at OT should be at least a point, though that depends on when they hire their next manager.

Leicester is away so unlikely to win given they’re fighting properly for their lives and we have the RvN narrative against us - if it’s moved to an evening kick-off then little chance of getting anything.

Can we beat Palace at OT? Maybe a decent chance of a narrow win there for us.

Last game is at home against Villa, who we somehow seem to do ok against recently despite how well they’ve been generally, though I suspect they’d be well-up for relegating us on the last day if it came down to it.

Probably just about enough there to see us over the line, throwing in a couple of shock wins maybe and plucky draw or two.

Delusional?!?!

There’s 3 Championship teams that are considerably worse than us.

This fanbase is so entitled, to think that we’re going down when there’s 18 games left.

That’s it, we’re shit, we’re going down, we must start planning, we’re so crap!

When there’s literally 6 other teams that are worse off than us. M

feck me this fanbase

I'm expecting a lower half finish, but don't think we will be relegated. We are really shit though, the worst United in my lifetime.

Jan window could offer a boost but if not I think we can get another six wins ish and get 45-50 points, it's what we're on course for.

It's bad but we have some really odd errors in previous losses with some good play.

Sir Jim’s plan takes shape. Force the full sale for cheap, then run the club just as the Glazer’s did to make his money back.

I saw online that we’re on 22 points while Blackpool got relegated whilst on 28 points at the same point in the season. You’ll never guess who were on 28 points when I saw the post and are in even worse form than us… Man City. That wouldn’t get as many clicks though I suppose.

We’re pants but I’m not worried yet. I know Amorim said we’ll have to go through pain at some point and it’s better to do it now. That said, if we sign no one in January we may have to delay that pain and play to whatever strengths the current players have because they’re clearly not suited to what Amorim wants.

We may be 8 points off 18th, but we're also 8 points off 5th. When do we discuss our plans for next season's Champions League?

When we can win 2 games in a row, as opposed to losing 2 (or more) games in a row.

It's getting harder and harder for promoted clubs to stay up and I can't see any of this years crop being around next season.

Our talent level isn't that much better than say...Evertons imo.

80/1 at bookies, go make tons of cash if you think it’ll happen.

I like that you make up your own scenario in your head and then make out that it has already happened.

Mathematically it’s possible.
Mathematically it’s possible to win the league.
If these were the only two possible outcomes I would put my money on being champions.

We don’t need to talk about relegation because it won’t happen. As bad as we can be there will still be 3 teams who are worse come the end of the season.

Stop with all the crazy panic threads, you are collectively embarrassing yourselves.

Amorim has 1 point per game so far. We have 20 to play which would finish us on 42 points on current form. Its not outlandish to mention relegation on that form. Especially if we cant beat the likes of wolves and Ipswich. Though to be fair Ipswich and Southampton are so bad theres only really looking to be one relegation spot left.

Hoping/assuming we will improve to go on some big winning run isn’t a great big counter to that to be honest.
