What's going to happen with Kiko Macheda?

One of my favourite Old Trafford moments. Broke the seat in front of me while celebrating.:o

Don't think I've ever seen the people in that stadium all go so mental at once. I can't even remember the specifics of how I reacted, just completely lost it.

I remember the lead up with him scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle reserves...really did seem like a star had been born.

Will always remember that goal and what it meant in the title race, stopping Liverpool winning it as well. Was the only time in my adult life i'd nearly been in tears over football.

Machedaaaaaaaaaa!

Shame it all went downhill from there. Good luck to him in the future.

That (plus Giggs' Arsenal and Scholes' Barca) are United goals that I've repeatedly watched the most . Just pure ecstasy.

He should be used as a cautionary tale for youngster that are fast-tracked here and have some impressive matches as a 17-18 years old in the first team.

Not at all. Nothing wrong with playing 18 year-olds as long as they have the dedication to work hard and prove themselves. He didn't apply himself correctly. He looked lazy.

And how exactly did you interpret my message, i wonder?

It is a harsh thing to say without seeing him day in day out in training. A lot of things must have contributed to him not making it at this level but this is nothing exceptional to be honest. Not everyone is cut for this level and his goals that season always had that hint of good luck in them. Maybe he wasn't talented enough to break into such a top team especially when we kept stockpiling strikers after that season.

He was physically advanced for his age at 17/18 but doesn't have the mentality. I started fearing the worst when the nightclub pictures started... then the loan spells where he couldn't get in vastly inferior teams. Should be a warning to to young players.

Scored some goals at championship level last season. Can see someone picking him up here, unless he opts to go back to Italy.

Maybe, and true we didn't see him in training but from what I saw in the pitch for the first team and the reserves (bar that goal of course) he didn't look like he was up to it for me. His work rate was shocking and he didn't seem to want to put it in either.

Such a perfect moment: the quality of the goal, the context of the match, the context of the title race, the crowd reaction, the senior players going mental and almost crushing him, Evans screaming into the camera, Macheda's dad - fairytale stuff

Yeah I get the impression Machada's lack of success is down to him.

I'd say you're right, man. It usually is, after all, when all is said and done.

But he'll be remembered fondly for his goal. He's like Michael Owen - except he'll be remembered fondly for one brilliant moment without actually being Michael Owen.

Well I got the impression that you were using him as an example of why young players shouldn't be given the chance at that age.
No. I was saying almost exactly what you wrote in your response to my post. Other youngsters should learn from his downfall. And the lesson is "you can't make it here at 18". Even if you have some great games in United's shirt, that does not mean you are good enough for United. It only means you have a slight chance to be good enough in future, if you work hard etc.

When he broke onto the scene I was really hoping he'd make something for himself here. Sad to see that he won't be living up to that early potential.

He wouldn't score in Italy I don't think.

Should try Spain at least, or Germany (then again, he didn't score at Stuttgart).

Robbed me of £800ish when he equalised against Burnley in the last minute back in March. Good riddance.

It's unfair to say that it was solely his fault that he didn't develop as hoped - he played his part with an apparent lazy attitude, but he was badly let down by our underage system IMO. He went back to our reserves (which he had outgrown already at the age of 18/19) on several occasions when what he desperately needed was first team football.

Hard to believe he's only 22. He had a good scoring record for Birmingham in the last few months of the season, although he never seemed to nail down a regular starting spot from what I remember. But I imagine there will be plenty of interest in him from Championship teams, and if his next move is a good one he's young enough to go on and have a career at Premier League level. Hope he does, that goal against Villa is my favourite ever scored in the Premier League.

it's beyond obvious, but he needs to get somewhere permanently, and come back strong from there.
Hanging about with us is doing no one any good

It's time for him to move on, now. He hasn't made it, here, and with better forwards ahead of him, he has to salvage his career by getting first-team football somewhere.

He's a good finisher of the ball, and I'm sure another team will be happy with him in their side.

did his part to keep Birmingham in the championship. It's good for him though now he can get regular 1st team appearances in a lower-mid table team or abroad.
