What made you become a supporter of this club?

I'm interested to hear your stories of how you fell in love with the club. For me it runs through the family. My dad being a fan of the club since he was a kid.

I played football as a kid will never forget that epic moment when I was 7 years old and my dad gave me and my brother our 99 kit. I got the Scholes one and my brother the Becks one. I watched all games with my dad and his passion was infectious and I fell in love with the club.

Share some nostalgic moments of how you were introduced to Man United.
 
I was born into a United-supporting family so I didn't have much choice.
 
My grandad, made it very clear there were no other options :lol: and being a proud welshman having hughsie playing for us, and later giggs.
 
I was really young and I asked my dad “who’s the best team in the world”, and he said probably United. Simple really :lol:

Charlton will always be my “real” team, but my love of United has never wavered. My brother on the other hand… one year he had a Liverpool shirt coming for Christmas and by the time it arrived he “supported” Chelsea :lol:
 
My Dad is a United fan, although nowhere near as much a diehard as I am, but I guess that played a part. Also, I was born just as United were becoming a force again, so I'm sure the era played a part too.

I can't remember anything specific, or a certain moment, just that I've been a fan all my life.
 
Cantona. Always played with the collar up as a kid.
 
Paul Incey, Mark Hughes, Kanchelskis, that team were larger than life when I was just a young lad, playing football in the park. They were giants who showed good, tough football can be played. They were who we pretended to be on the park. Then came Cantona and the rest is history. I wrote an essay about him in my GCSE. Got an A, obviously.
 
My dad. Bought me kits, took me to games. Banned my mum from making me a Man City fan. This was in the late 80s.
 
I am Irish but I grew up in Australia when I would come home from Australia on Holidays my Uncles would all buy me United gear to get me to support United I had other uncles who supported Chelsea and Arsenal ( they didn't tight arses , just kidding ) . My father is a QPR fan , My mother is a Leeds fan , My brother is a Fanatical Liverpool fan and I'm United till I die .
 
Fearlessness in the way we played - which is a standard I will never lower for any manager, club legend or not.

I am from Bulgaria, as a kid in the early 90s there were 2 TV channels and not much of it was international football - 1 game per week from Seria A and 1 CL game which I was only allowed to watch the first half as it was late (21:45 BG time), no-one in my family was interested in football unfortunate. After USA 94 I had nothing but football in my head, wanted to watch and play every minute of my life, just turned 8 that summer.

Enter Manchester United - the red devils, Sharp Viewcam, Umbro black and yellow kit, Schmeichel, Eric Cantona, with the popped collar and kung fu kick, SAF. No team came close to being so cool, I cold not support anybody else.

Years past since that 94-95 season which is my United beginning and I managed to get the original black Umbro kit from ebay, one of the best things I have ever bought.

Hard to pinpoint exactly not through my Dad he never supported a team, my brothers and I just picked utd I think 83 cup final the wilkins curler is one of my earliest memories.

Went to my first game the season after against Villa at OT, a couple of my uncles were in an irish supporters club and were over for that game had some spare tickets so they brought us, I was 9 years old ill never forget that feeling of excitement.
 
Being born in N.Ireland, as a kid in the 70s most of my mates and all my family where Liverpool supporters. What made me decide to become a United supporter was the 79 FAcup final against Arsenal. May seem strange because we lost that match but I still vividly remember being 2-0 down with about 5 minutes left and coming back to equalise in the final minutes. It was euphoric. It didnt matter Arsenal then went up the other end and scored the winner. I was hooked.
 
My city is called Manchester of south India, so the name resonated well and team was doing great when I started watching football in the late 90s. So that is how I became a fan I suppose.

Ulster father and family who all supported united so ended up being passed down to me. Certainly helped that i got into football around 95/96 properly so one of my earliest experiences was our treble trophy parade, that was an ace day as a kid.
 
Mine was an unpopular choice amongst friends and family tbh.

I grew up in a smaller Northern town where you were expected to support the local club in the lower leagues and hate 'the big and nasty clubs who get all the decisions', etc.

I went along with this as a kid when I was under the influence of my dad and older brothers, and a lot of my mates were doing the same, but as I approached my teens and got a mind of my own I started to realise how biased and bitter a lot of the comments were.

We'd listen, or watch (as the early 90's and Sky Sports started), United games and every time the opposition had a goal disallowed, penalty not rewarded, man sent off, etc, I'd hear the usual 'it's ridiculous, that wouldn't happen at the other end'. When the same decisions then went against United, nothing said. They'd predict a United penalty, opposition player sent off, etc, to help them win, throughout every game. When it eventually happened they'd go 'it's a joke, so predictable'. Well, yeah, if you predict it every match you'll eventually be right - but it's only 'so predictable' if you ignore all the games you got it wrong in between!

Anyway, by the 1991/2 season, while not a fully fledged fan I was an increasingly secret one and was gutted when United were denied by Leeds and everyone around was so delighted by it. That decided it, and I was cheering on United by the start of the PL and was desperate for them / us to finally win the title again and delighted when it happened. :D

Seeing English Premier League games from Tv via Finnish broadcasting channel YLE2 when I was a kid, Manchester United was one of the most broadcasted sides back in 96/97 era and they showed the Saturday 5pm (Estonian time) games to us and seeing Peter Schmeichel, Beckham, Neville brothers etc.
 
My mum's side of the family are all from in and around Manchester and are all United fans, so it was never a choice. Though I grew up in West Yorkshire, so I was called a gloryhunter at school through the 90s.

I got taken to a game in 91, pretty sure it was against Everton, and we definitely lost. I couldn't see anything as it wasn't fully seated at that point, and I would've been 5 or 6. I think I was just in it for the burger and the can of pop.
 
A bit of weird story. WC ‘98 and the England-Argentina game. Thought Beckham was hard done by. I was curious to know what follows and came to know that he was a United player. Started following United since then. Now my 6 year old daughter supports United!
 
I’m naturally very ambitious and this seemed to be a club which matched those ambitions. I’m also very loyal which has kept me here through the more recent hard times.
 
from Dublin but had loads of relatives in Manchester, two cousins and families lived in Stretford. My cousin Billy was at the 68 Final. Told a great story of how he managed to get a ticket, (had a small pools win). RIP.
 
There is no past family connection or tradition with this club and I. I'm from India and somehow stumbled upon the Red Devils during the 2002-2003 season. I instantly became a fan of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who for me is the reason for my attraction for the great club. Being from the sub-continent, I was a huge cricket fan but was always fascinated by football just because of all the drama it consists within the 90 mins. Not just that, it had more drama beyond the 90 mins in the build up and after the games. I started reading up about the club- the history of this club is beyond just the football, it is the RED running through my veins now. I have watched all the greats of this wonderful club through countless videos and I have even looked through numerous old full games. If anyone here has access to the black & white era games, do let me know here or DM me. The history is rich and SAF is an INSPIRATION to all of us.

I don't care if we win or lose today, tomorrow or ever. This is my club and forever will be!

One of my class mates threatened to beat me up if I didn't support United. I was probably 11 years old.

I reckon every member on here owes that guy a drink :D
 
Seeing Cantona play for the 1st time and after that offensive style of play which I really liked. There was something about the club which dragged me to it.
 
Grew up with a Liverpool supporting father and brother, but always supported United purely because of the king, Eric Cantona. The man, the legend.

Absolutely adored the guy and still do. Obviously he drew me to the club as a young kid and then you just fall in love with everything else about the club, the history, the legends/icons of the club, the manager and everything else, then your in, there's no other club for you.

There will never be a cooler footballer than Eric. He was the epitome of swagger on the pitch. He singlehandedly brought in a massive wave of young fans at that time, probably more than any other player except other elite players like Best and Ronaldo.

I'll watched Cup winners cup quarter final Man.Utd vs FC Barcelona in 1984 with my dad. I was 12 years and not that interested .He was rooting for Barca so it was an easy choice.

It was love at first sight. And the comeback from 0-2 after the first leg was fantastic. I Have followed united since then.

My grandad was a massive Belfast Celtic fan until the club withdrew from the Irish league due to political reasons he started following United and passed this on to my father who in turn passed it on to me. The rest of my family, cousins, uncles etc support Liverpool or Spurs. Myself and my dad are the only ones who support United in quite a large Irish family.
