What is up with the moderating of the United forum?

Can someone please change the thread title? Seems this thread has gone a bit off the original topic...

Not sure which specific threads you’re on about. They’ve all got idiots in, just report the worst ones.
I did see this cool featuer on a forum, every thread that really sucked had [I.D.I.O.T] next to it, as in it deserves its own thread, and it help differentiate the good threads from the not so good ones.

Don’t bother reading the thread.

It’s all just moan, moan and non stop moaning from our resident moaner @afrocentricity. If you don’t visit the United section that much, why are you so triggered as you would say? Remember that advice you were giving me about resetera and avoiding it. Why don’t you follow that?

The United section isn’t great and that’s granted. It’s been going downhill because people are not used to see us losing. When this forum was formed in 1999 or whatever the one constant it had for 14 years was that people saw us winning or challenging. The last few years the club has been embarrassing at times and people should be allowed to vent.

If this forum or social media was around in the late 80s there would have been tons of Fergie out threads. Times have changed. So Afro accept when it comes to losing there will be more mass outcry and bitching.
Fecking hell this is why I put you on ignore, what does any of that have to do with this thread?

Back you go.

Tbh, most of the reported posts are made my amazingly thin-skinned posters. The worst shit half the time doesn't get flagged. But @afrocentricity it's a tricky one- obviously can we see Martial, Sanchez, Lingard, now Lukaku or whoever is hate figure of the week. This is our fanbase, sadly. Would you rather we go full Rawk and lock any thread that suggests Mourinho isn't the second coming? We just need to try and balance the level of bollox we accept with the abject shite being served up on the pitch most weeks.

There are newbie opposition fans too whose sole purpose is to have a dig at ManUtd. It's not too bad to report, but always annoying to read some rival fans always taking dig at our players and manager. Not even sure whether to report or just ignore it. It's like they know the line and keep on playing near it.

 I think something more subtle might work. But usually you can tell a bad thread from the subject and the first few posts - especially when it ends up having 10+ pages. No thanks.

Is that in the United forum or the FF?

If it's persistent and in the United forum, report it. Newbie oppos sometimes don't understand the distinction and forget its a United forum first.
Once you've identified them can we abuse them freely?

Reported bunch of posts from same guy.

Isn't this what the newbies was for though? I know it's a bit quiet these days, but only half having one surely makes that worse?

Yeah but our retention rate was really poor. People would register and then not post once they saw the newbie system. We're trying to change that by giving limited access.

I see yeah. Makes sense.

Would it be good to vary the amount of access depending on how busy the forum is? Could have a few different levels and review it a few times a year. That way it gives a chance to build some sense of community in the FFs and there might be less people constantly looking to start an argument.

I think the issue is that moderation is supposed to be about keeping debate flowing and drawing traffic to a site. But increasingly it became, and now almost exclusively is, people who want to stop discussion or ban people from saying things they disagree with.

Problem is though, the Corbynista clique will be hitting that report button anytime they can to shut down criticism of Corbyn. You have to take a share of the blame for giving them a chance.

I’m also banned from the CE forum so didn’t see what happened. What did Oscie do?

I thought his ban at the time was actually quite harsh - he didn't really break any rules so to speak, but the problem was he'd regularly condescend to other posters, and whenever they replied to him he'd just sort of ignore parts of their argument that didn't suit his own agenda and rail on about something that suited him instead. If he posted something about Corbyn that was demonstrably incorrect, for example, instead of acknowledging that or defending his assertion he'd change track completely and start lambasting the Corbyn thread (again as an example) for being full of Corbynistas or whatever. I remember him being the same in the VAR thread - the type of poster who didn't seem to understand that sometimes people have valid points when they disagree with you. His big long post will make for a good copypasta though.

Hes right in the sense, answering "eboue" to everything, is literally hasnt been funny for years, and probably most on the forum wont have a clue. Its not a mod issue like he was getting at, its more of "thing" this forum does. I dont think its cliquey per se on here, but i do find older members of the forum a tad self-serving at times.

How are some of these newbies getting thru?

He managed to repeat himself 50 times even in his departing thread, same as he did in every thread. What a tedious angry cnut that was. Wonder how old he was.

Allegedly 34. And maybe impotent and bald.
