What is the profile of central midfielder we need to sign?

I think it was after the Chelsea defeat in the FA Cup final that Mourinho mentioned we didn't have enough presence without Lukaku and Fellaini. Perhaps he will look for a midfielder to bring us that presence? The most obvious candidate being Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

I think he was referring to having a presence in forward areas to be a reference point for the side and spearhead attacks (see links to Mandzukic and Arnautovic).

I can't say that I've noticed any patterns among the best european concerning themselves too much with balancing their teams by preferred foot apart from in fullback positions. Apart from Van Gaal of course, but I don't think that even he was that anal about the idea.

Again, I don't think there's any chance of Pogba moving this summer. This isn't Mourinhos playground where he's free to do as he pleases.

Apparently it's the findings of years and years of research into the subject post War, probably undertaken by the same group that were tasked with finding out why certain Horses favour anti-clockwise as apposed to clockwise courses :lol:
 
Mikel Merino at Newcastle looks pretty good. Tall, nice touch, good passing range too. Wouldn't cost the earth and at 21 would have patience to grow into the deep lying midfielder role.

Do you consider Fred a better player than Seri, Keita or Kovacic?
 
A playmaker we haven’t replaced Scholes that’s been our problem for years now. Carrick was more of a pure anchor a Sergio Busquests type of holding midfielder. Matic has come in and done a good job in that role this season.

We don’t have a Kroos, Modric, Pirlo type someone who can dictate the play.

I have watched Youri Tielemans a few times and I think he is the player we should of signed not Fred. Great range of passing, first touch and despite his lack of goals he can strike a ball with a bit of venom when he gets the chance.

A Midfield of Youri, Matic and Pogba is what I would like to see with Gomes, Herrera and McTominey as back ups. Instead we have given that clown a new contract!!
 
It depends, we already have different profiles of midfielders in Matic, Pogba, Fred, Herrera, Fellaini, Pereira, McTominay and even TFM/Blind. IMO, we need a creative CAM, someone like James, Isco, Draxler, KDB, Eriksen, Fekir, Dybala, etc.

If we don't sign a RW, then I would play 352 or 4312. Lingard is better as No.10 and there are quality attacking midfielders available like James and Fekir. One of them behind Sanchez-Lukaku, Martial-Rashford could be great with proper fullbacks.
 
I don't expect us to sign another midfielder at this point. Mourinho said he needs to replace Carrick and potentially Fellaini if he leaves. Considering the Belgian is staying, it seems to me our business for that part of the field is done.

Agreed. Fekir could be a perfect David Silva type of player for Man United. A lot of creativity, great shot, excellent vision, scores many and great attitude.

I genuinely don’t know why you’re having a dig at Fellaini here.

We’ve signed Fred rather than Tielemans so Fellaini as our fifth choice midfielder is irrelevant.

Because he doesn’ offer anything other than being an emergency target man when things get desperate I don’t want United to become Stoke! . Fred is a decent player I just preferred Tielemans that’s all.

Seems like France is totally fine with Pogba and two workhorse in midfield. It's the attack we are severely lacking on.
