What happened to them (hyped youngsters)?

Keirrison was a weird one

Sad story all round. From being rushed into Barcelona, not getting any playing time, injuries, etc. Only to go back to Brazil and just can't regain his early form, crying on TV. From what I heard he was/is battling depression and only recently lost his 2 year old son :(.

Ahh shit :( life has a way of kicking you right in the Travellers

Could Rene Adler be put in here? Not quite sure how he was as a youngster but I remember some serious hype over him about 6 years back.

Kjaer has bounced around a bit stinking out whichever team has been saddled with him.
Ex City players Richards, Rodwell and Bojinov have had lesser careers than expected but still done OK despite being limited by injuries.
Michael Johnson was blighted by injuries, drink and mental problems but has apparently become quite a successful businessman with the generous payoff

He got injured in 2010(?) before the world cup and missed a whole season. He would have started in goal ahead of Neuer at the time. In 12/13 he was brillant and was voted best keeper in the league iirc, unfortunately he plays for a team that was in danger of relegation in the last years so his performances weren't all that impressive as well. Since his latest injury in early 2015 he's been one of the best keepers in the League again though. Performance wise he could certainly play in a CL side again, but his injury problems are really holding him back.

I remember seeing Possebon as a kid, thought he had it all. Now he's on the scrap heap with the rest of our great prospects.

He beat Oliver McCall to win the WBC World Heavyweight title, then lost for the second time to Mike Tyson who damaged his eye so severely he had to retire. Now he just appears in pantomimes around Christmas time.
:p

Bruma should be added to the list.

How? He's 21 and playing first team football in La Liga. Maybe moving to Galatasary wasn't the best move for him, but he's 21 FFS and could well go on to be a good player. He hasn't lived up to his early hype obviously but it's not as if he's playing in the Croatian 2nd division either.

I thought he was alot older. There were rumours of him joining Europe's top clubs. Where does he play now? Sociedad?

Yeah he's on loan from Galatasary. Actaully scored a nice gaol against Madrid or Barca, can't remember which one. I don't follow Portugese football so I have no idea why he ended up at Galatasary, considering he was linked with far bigger clubs. From the limited amount of him that I've seen, he looks talented but very erratic and inconsistent.

Don't get me started:(

Had an idea how good he could become but don't think we did enough for him.

It might sound like a pointless question, but if he'd been around ten years earlier do you think Fergie would've been quicker to hand him a chance in the first team?

The other day I noticed (thanks to Football Manager) that Rhain Davis is now playing for Altrincham.

I guess at 18 there's still time for him.

Sturridge
M'Vila
Bojan
Muniain
Balotelli
Immobile

to things, mentality/injuries.. there are so many players out there but if they are not lucky for injuries like Rosicky, Hargreaves or doesnt work hard like Ballotelli/Zaha they are fecked ... You may come to find a palyer who lacked both like Anderson, despite all that he's done pretty allright but his injury record as abslutelly terrible to start with, and as the time goes you lose that will to continue to recover over and over and over again...

Sturridge
M'Vila
Bojan
Muniain
Balotelli
Immobile
Bit of a weird list, M'Vila and Bojan are doing quite well this year, Sturridge is just perma-injured, Balotelli was mainly overhyped imo.

Muniain is a good question though, looked fantastic against us a few years ago, wonder what he's up to currently.

Muniain is doing well(injured atm). People in here hyped him up to such levels he was never going to reach.

Lucas Piazon was hyped as the next Kaka. Wonder what happened to him. Surprised to find out Stephen Ireland is already 29 years old. I thought he looked good at City for a season or two.

Jack Rodwell
Micah Richards

There are quite a few strong, athletic teenagers who look great at youth level, break through early and get massively over hyped, but then go on to produce little, as they were never that good at actual football. Yet every time the next one comes along, we see the same thing of people banging on and on about their "potential." Breel Embolo is going to be the next one.
Micah Richards is a regular for Aston Villa. Rodwell is a bench player for Sunderland.

Did we not sign some welsh youtube wizard???? I remember him being something like 9 years old, and that was a couple of years now.

What happened to that really small german guy that Chelsea bought? Something with M I think...

he is in the B team (portugese 2nd division) so I certainly have not seen him regularly (I doubt many if any on here have) but I guess the fact that as a 20 year old he has not broken into the sporting lisbon squad yet the scottish messi is more scottish than messi

Dunno what to say about Gauld. Last year he had some chances for the main team and did reasonably well but this year with the influx of players for his position and other academy players doing better than him, he has been stuck in the B team. Don't understand the decision by Sporting to not let him go on loan to british club in january either. Let's see what happens in the near future but with Jorge Jesus and his reluctance to use too many youth players (prefering a more experience eleven) i don't know if he will get many chances. But it depends on him. Matheus Pereira from the B team has had many chances in the main team (league, cup and europa league) but he plays in a position with less choices comparing to Gauld's position.

Regarding Bruma, i think he would have done better if he stayed with us but he made his choice. Even so he is playing in La Liga and i've read Real Sociedad wants to buy him after the loan so he can't be doing that bad. Has scored some very good goals in La Liga. He is young and with the right guidance, he has the potencial to do well
