What happened to Joshua Kimmich: initially grossly overrated or a massive letdown?

Agree. Funny how conundrums work. Guys like this rarely come up on the market, but we’ve burned a lot with this age profile so logically we should steer clear.

It's more the case a lot of these players have been burnt by us.

Players tend to have longer careers in successful teams, where their workloads are managed - like we did with Scholes and Giggs for years.

Definitely agree with that. Kimmich theoretically covers so much of what we need, but if not utilised correctly (like Casemiro), whatever he’s got left in the tank will be spent in half the time.

Barca can't afford him without selling can they.
Kimmich is also on very high (€20m) wages. I am certain that Bayern could find a player or two at Barca, they they could add in a swap deal though... De Jong and Araujo for example.

We literally bought a DM two summers ago - at the age of 29/30 for £60m and most want him to go Saudi this summer but yet here we are again with people clamouring for us to sign Kimmich.

This is what I dont get. We make these mistakes over and over again.

Stop buying players that are closer to declining. We have to overpay on wages and these players do not have the motivation.

I those were different situations, Casemiro came after winning everything and you could imagine be lacked a bit of motivation. Kimmich knows his reputation has been tarnished after this season and would have fire in his belly to play well and improve it. Plus he hasn't had as much European success.

@hasanejaz88 @HTG Cheers! And, yeah, Lahm was incredible. Even though fullbacks aren't as hampered by it, necessarily, his shorter stature couldn't impede his absolute brilliance.

Tuchel is a difficult character but he knows football and I wouldn't dismiss his opinion that Kimmich lacks the attributes to play DM in certain setups. I'm sure he'd be fine as long as he had enough protection and the team played with enough control. But if you throw him into a Ten Hag ball setup where the game is constantly stretched, there are players running at him constantly, and he's not getting much help from his midfield partners I wouldn't be surprised if he struggled like Casemiro did this year.

Yeah can see that to be fair.

Seeing how Bayern is looking to tear down everything and start all over he may finally move on this summer.

Will he go to Barca? Of all the managers flick seemed to be the one to get his best out of him but I've seen reports that there was some friction between the two in their national team stints so who knows.

Wouldn't Bayern want a massive transfer fee for him plus fairly high wages he himself would demand? Not sure Barca can afford those levels of transfers right now, but again, I'm probably not up to speed with their financial state.

I mean that hasn't stopped them being irresponsible before.

Concrete links with PSG while some pl clubs may be interested as well.

Shout-out to his performance today, by far Germany's best player. Beast of a header to create the goal and made many more chances down the right side with his crosses. Didn't put a foot wrong defensively against a tricky Nico Williams today as well.

So where will he end up?

Rumors are all over the place. Initially it was that he was going to leave because he doesn't want to sign a new contract and he has only a year left, the last one I saw now says he wants to stay.

Won't get a clear picture until after the Euros but I feel he's leaving, likely to Barca.

Thought he was great today.
Prior to the game i feared Nico would play him off the park like Vini Jr. in the CL.
