The people suggesting Maguire might cost around £50/£60 million are very optimistic imo. I'd value him higher than Van Dijk and could see Leicester demanding around £80 million.
We've bought two and it seems like we aren't going to buy an LB and unfortunately Fellaini is staying so we wont be adding a playmaker CM, so I can't see us buying 4, if we make a 3rdsgning I think it'll be a CB, hopefully Skrinniar or Alderweireld.
Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the keeper, I don't know who he is either, that was one of those WTF things that I just ignored. We did make a 3rd signing.
He is a 35 year old GK, who I've never heard of. Even now, I can't remember his name.
So, we may yet, make a 4th signing.
Hope that doesn't countWe did make a 3rd signing.

Assuming Dalot is good enough to be a starter...
This is what I’d build towards - not what I think will happen.
De Gea
Bailly - Maguire - Lindelof
Dalot - Fred - Matic - Pogba - Sandro
Sanchez - Lukaku
Not sure if being picky but would you have Maguire on one of the sides? Left as he was for England?
Imagine if we end up with: Dalot, Fred, Grant and Mina.
I still remember most of the posters (me included) wanted Alderweired, Sandro, Bale, etc. Also, our rivals signed RW to rotate with their attacking players like Shaqiri, Mahrez, etc. Let's see if we sign Willian or Pulisic before the transfer window closes.
Maybw a CB.Is this 4 MORE ? Or 1 more as we have bought 3 ?
Maybw a CB.
I'm optimistic on Dalot and Shaw is young and talented, so I could see only needing one fullback next summer, leaving us needing 3 players: CB, FB (side to be determined) and RW. If Mourinho goes, no reason to get rid of anyone else bar Fellaini, and one of or maybe both Rojo and Jones if Tuanzebe has a strong year at Villa.
--------------------Lukaku/Martial--------------
Sanchez/Rashford---------------RW/Mata---- (Chong)
----------Pogba/Lingard----Fred/Herrera----- (Mctominay)
------------------Matic/Pereira------------------
LB/Shaw--------------------------Dalot/Valencia (Young)
---------LCB/Lindelof---Bailly/Smalling-------- (Tuanzebe)
------------------De Gea/Romero----------------
That looks like a proper side if we get 3 productive players who can hit the ground running like Koulibaly, Tierney (haven't seen a ton but seems like a very solid player and at his age room to improve) and then winger will likely depend on who has a breakout season and is available since players there tend to be younger, but surely there's someone from the group of young wingers like: Pulisic/Bailey/Brandt/Thauvin/Chiesa/Zaha/Lopez/Under/Pavon/Neres/Lozano who we could get and would be a hit here.
Modern Football relies heavily on quality Wing backs and a European Tier 1 Super Club needs 4 outstanding options because you need to rotate this position to keep them fresh. The Centre Back positions you probably need 5 or 6 options to play a 2 or 3 man Defensive options with at least 1 or 2 of those CBs being leaders of men.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but United 2018 options in these 10 positions are as follows with the players in Bold being just about good enough to be squad options!
D Dalot, A Valencia(33), A Young(33), M Darmian, C Smalling, P Jones, E Bailly, V Lindeloft, L Shaw, A Tuanzebe, T Fosu Mensah, M Rojo. Some would argue that Smalling, Shaw and Jones should be added to that list!
That would suggest that a massive rebuilding job and squad improvement is needed With any 2 from T Auderweield, H Maguire, R Varanne as CB options and T Menier or K Trippier and A Sandro or K Tierney more experienced options at WB also needed.
Any combination of that 4 would cost the club £200M investment, something United board will not do to back Jose or any other incomming Manager.
In Midfield the situation is much better but you would still look to upgrade Mata or McTominay, so 1 coming in such as A Ramsey, M Veratti or Sergej Milinkosavic - possibly costing the club another £100M
Then finally upfront, we are deluded if we think our current front 5 or 6 is good enough. Lukaku needs genuine competition and we need at least 1 Genuine pacy winger. So add H Lozano, L Bailly, C Pullisic or M Rheus to M Icardi or A Berlotti and you are looking at another £150M. A total investment of £350M net after we sell the deadweight for £100M.
There is no way in a million years that Woodward and the board would sanction that type of investment for Jose Mourinho, Ancelotti or Zidane unless the club fail in a a Moyes style epic proportion and miss Champions League football and also miss out on a top 6 position.
A Director of football is the first stage to repair the damage but it might take us 3 more windows to sort this depressing mess out!
It doesn't matter who or how much you invest in the team over how many windows, unfortunately if Jose is still in charge the lacklustre football will still be as dire and teams like Brighton will still overpower us.Think about how many of our players performed so well at the World Cup under their respective coaches and yet not even two months later they are back to playing the garbage that the manager is training. It doesn't matter which camp you're in this only ends well when Jose goes.
Odd? No I find it fecking annoying, although let's not forget what happened in his last season at Chelsea, so actually it has happened before. But no other Jose team played like this....you don't think thats a little odd.
