What does a good season look like now?

Poor summer for me Hojlund, Mount, Onana and Amrabat relatively poor on paper with what the squad needed which is quality over quantity. Top 5 is the maximum expectation this season.

If the manager wanted those players then you have to trust he has a plan that will make us improve. We should therefore be expecting to see improvement on last season and it should be within our means to push City. Nobody expected arsenal to do it last season, nobody expected Liverpool this season (though obviously still very early days for them). But expecting anything less than last season is just lowering the standards.

I agree but I don't feel these players move the needle to warrant improvement. Ajax fans critiqued EtH ability to identify players there's quotes on the cafe and the recent statement from the manager only having deliberation with Murtough almost suggests that the structure around scouting is largely isolated.

I think EtH is a good manager but like most managers at United the responsibility to shape the team often does more damage than good. I don't think this club will ever move beyond the top four until the Glazers are gone and even then the only metric to base any optimism on with new owners being dilligent is hope.

5 points off Spurs and 6 off Brighton after 6 games and it's all doom and gloom and top 4 would be a miracle.

There's still 32 games left ffs.

I want to see progress. That's clearly not going to be league position this season, BUT I want to see a style of play, a good forward partnership, some confidence. I keep reading about how it took klopp 2.5/3 years to build his team and to cement their style, I want to know that after 2 full seasons we have a style, and a plan for summer transfers and replacements.

A consistent style of football.
I'd like to watch us go head to head with the best teams and compete; and at times look the better side.
I'd like to see us start to dominate the weaker teams; to be clearly the better side when we play most weeks.

The bare minimum was top 4,now I would a top 4 finish would be considered good, I guess.

Top 4 and reaching the CL knockouts, but to be fair I think that was true before the season started.

Before the season I wanted to see a noticeable improvement on our level of play and performance metrics, that means more possession, chances, goals, xG, points etc. but I've almost given up on an improvement from last season given how we've started.

True, its a sad position but below top 4 is a failure, and top 4 is kinda minimum. It's a solid drop between 4th and 5th.

Glazers selling. Becoming much better defensively. Starting to play like an actual team with a clue in the oppositions half of the pitch.

Top 4 would be a miracle

Why? We've played terribly way later in the season than this and still got top 4. We've plenty of players injured and Spurs, Liverpool, Newcastle and Brighton are all far from perfect.

Top 4.
Progress from the CL groups stages
Decent run in the cups.
If possible, i'd like to avoid big defeats to the likes of city and liverpool.

I'd agree with this. The big defeats really annoyed me because it seemed like the team just gave up which is unforgiveable.

Top 4 is a must, but it looks like it is going to be much harder than last year. It feels like City, Arsenal and Liverpool are almost guaranteed so everyone else fighting for once place.

A run in the CL would be great.

FA Cup or Carabao would be a great day out.

Buy a good centreback that has presence, quick, with some passing ability and not injury prone.(I like the look of Spurs new centreback)

give the team a style of playing identity and settle on a bestXI

give some of youngsters a decent chance (Hannibal, mainoo,Fernandez, pellestri, )

I think most fans were hoping to get closer to City and Arsenal. Close the gap. Doesn't look like that now. So what's a good season? Top4/5? Is that good enough?
1. Making UCL qualification for next season
2. Advancing from group stage at UCL
3. Bonus: advancing to at least quarter-finals of UCL and making to final of a cup competition

Winning regularly. Not losing by more than 2 goals against anybody. A noticable style of play. Cut the injury problem to only 1-2 players at a time. If we achieve this, this season, then we have something solid to build on next season, regardless where we finish.
If we cant do this, then we will be back to square one with a new manager next season.

Top 4
A trophy?
At least QF stage of CL

Team developing into a coherent unit.

At this rate I just want us to resemble an actual team and have a clear style and set up which allows us to play consistently well for a whole match.

I'm so sick of watching other teams who even with far inferior quality players play better football then us while United look like they've never played with eachother before.

An improvement on last season is a good season. Nothing has changed. There's still plenty of games left.

More goals scored in the league. Clear progression in style. Greater ability to exert control in big games.

Getting the dressing room right. Having all players together, no issues, no leaks, a harmonious squad with everyone pulling in the same direction.

Until that happens we cannot move forward as a team and expect consistency and improvement. That's what a good season will look like to me.

I’d celebrate top 4 finish, plus the following progression on our younger/new/key players:

- Hojlund doing well in his debut season, scoring goals
- Garnacho continue his good form for us, proving to be reliable starter as well
- Mainoo has a breakout year and become reliable first team player
- the likes of Diallo, Meijbri, Pellistri getting more games and doing well at times, providing us more options/cover when needed
- Rashford keeping up with his brilliant form, Bruno delivering
- the likes of Onana, Amrabat, Mount settling well and justifying the fees

Won CL
Beaten Liverpool 9-0
Beaten Real Madrid 11-2
Hojlund POTY ahead of Haaland
Onana Ballon D'or

1- Have new owners.
2 - Have a competent sports director.
3 - Have a coach who plays proactive football and has no problems with the players.
4 - Have professional players, who leave their balls on the field and do not have problems in their personal life.

At this stage I'm not bothered about achieving a league position or getting to a set stage in the champions league at any costs as that doesn't really mean anything if we're scraping wins or riding our luck and playing pretty horribly.

A good season for me would simply be to stop letting other teams bully us and boss games a bit more, playing some decent quality football for more than 15-20 minutes at the start of a game.

Just looking like a well drilled, confident and competent side which given the size of the club and the outlay should be a given.

If we get the basics right and play more consistent, less chaotic football the results will mostly take care of themselves and other goals will be achieved.

Like others have said, a solid platform to build on to allow us to really take on the teams currently better than us would be a good season.

Another way of looking at this is would you rather finish 3rd and win the FA Cup with the Glazers retaining ownership, or would you favour a trophyless season and outside top four league position with guaranteed sale and new owners in place by spring?

I imagine the second option would be the lesser evil for most.

Same demands as we had before the season began. Anything less and it's not a good season.

Establish a style of football that is ours and that the players understand.
Sell a fair few of these players in jan and bring in some quality to replace them. (Sancho, mctom, maguire, martial). I’d look at rabiot and another striker.
Go on a big run and get top 4.

Change all the negativity to positivity.

Positive goal difference would be nice as well.
Good run in atleast one competition.

Top 4 (or top 5 if PL gets the extra place) or else outside the European places altogether so that we can have a proper crack next season. Can’t be arsed with Thursday night football

Anything less than top 4 for this club shouldnt be acceptable. Something has to change if we dont achieve that.

When Ten Hag joined I don't think anyone's expectations were for a title challenge in his second season. Most pundits and fans said he would need about 2 seasons to build a team and then in the third mount a title challenge. So for me I see no reason to change that. This season I expect us to qualify for Champions League again and reach a final of a cup, along with that by the end of the season to start season the team play in the way Ten Hag wants them to. Even with the start to the season I see no reason to change that expectation currently. If we do not achieve that then unless there are big extenuating circumstances e.g. the injury crisis continues into the new year then that would be a failure for me. However the key think I am looking for is for the team to be playing in the style of a Ten Hag team. Even if we finish 5th but in the second half of the season we start playing really good football then that for me will be a positive.

A consistent style of football.

This I think is what most want now.

CL finish is easier this year with top 5 spots being good enough, I personally don’t really care about the league cup but want us to give good performances in the FA cup and CL.

But we want to see more goals, more signs that we have a plan and the ability to manage games and control things and not just revert to what we know works but doesn’t move us any closer to being elite. I’d happily watch is try something new which fails rather than crap direct football, win a minor cup every few years and watch us be dominated by most PL teams home and away.

Avoid getting battered by City and Liverpool.

Avoid relegation.
