I see some people saying "we won't bid that amount" for a player or the opposite "lets pay 50 million for.." a player.

What do you consider a realistic signing for United this summer?

I think absolute max we'll spend on one player is £35m.

I think Sneijder is a realastic signing, if we have the money as Gill seems to say we have, then we can compete and afford this lad. Especially if SAF sets his sights on him.

Somebody who would fit well in the squad, wants to come, won't demand insane wages or command a mental fee, not old, and plays for a club that would let him go...

Logic.

Messi it is.

With Scholes, Nev, VDS all gone there's a lot available for wages at least. Berba maybe as well.. We'll buy big this summer I think

Realistically, Young, rather than say a Sanchez. Which I can half see why, but Sancez would excite me more.

So yeah, up to now I think the answer is Young.

there is only one player in the world IMO we'd bid big money for and that's to bring ronnie back.

realisitic would be 40 million fee max with reasonable wages and 25 or under.

Mind you, if fabregas wasn't playing at arse...i think we'd bid big money for him. I think lads who say he's worth 45 are way off the mark.

People forget how young he is and how much experience he has. he's easily a 60 million player when people like carroll are going for 35 and zlatan for 70.

Up to £40m for the right player, perhaps.

Same here, and I think that will be Modric.

£17m for De Gea; £20m for Rodwell; £35m for Modric. £70m all told. Far lower than the £150m warchest we supposedly have.

I definitely think the 35m will be for a CM and Modric would be money well spent. Just because the money is there does not mean they have to spend it.

I think we'll buy De Gea, Varane, Young and a central midfielder. Who that is is open to speculation.

I think we'd be willing to spend a lot of money on a CM who is very good. We don't need to do it yet per ce. We will pretty much have the same midfield next season minus Scholes so the midfield signing doesn't have to be high profile. He will have to be good for us to be better next season.

It also depends on how many players we sign overall. If we're only going to buy 2-3 players then why not spend 40m? We haven't spend a lot the last 5 seasons considering the standard of our club and others who're about the same size.

I think there's no-one at Chelsea, Inter, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Arsenal, City, Bayern or Liverpool we would realistically get, maybe Sneijder aside. There's then a group of maybe around 10 players or so outside of the top clubs that we also wouldn't pay the exorbitant fees to get even if we held some interest.

Outside of that I think we could get almost any other player if Sir Alex decided he was worth pushing the boat out for.

we really are the jewish kid at christmas aren't we? :(:D:D

Over 20mil will not be value for money. We can't get Messi, Ronaldo. However, I will not mind 90mil for Messi though. That is value.

This is a moment where I will just trust the coaching stuff with whatever they sign and be happy. I have no clue. I know what we need, but I don't know who that person is.

Where does everyone get the name Varane as a target? Did I miss something massive?

Seems to be a CB. With Smalling a lock-in, does that mean Evans is on his way out?

The scousers will be gutted if we don't go over £35 million.

Its impossible to set a general figure, every player is different (no, really, they are!)

I cant see Fergie blowing vast amounts on a single player as we clearly need several. Keeper is a given, the new "Scholes" is the next priority - and depending on how much 'he' costs, depends who else comes in

£80m

On Ronaldo

Actually, its not like we'd be spending any money. We just kept it for save keeping and interest for the loan.

We'll most likely make one big signing (excluding De Gea) with couple of promising youngsters. I'll settle for that.

De Gea (probably) aside, I can't really see us spending more than 15M on one player. Indeed, I would not be surprised if the new keeper turned out to be our only signing above the 10M barrier.

A player who would improve the squad or first 11 that United would be willing to pay the amount his club would want to willingly part with him.:D

Someone who will be brought at a fair price.

The press are linking us with Modric with a £20-25m fee (depending on which paper you read). That for me is a good price, it's not an over inflated price to pay for a quality midfielder.

I can't see the Manager paying over the odds for his targets.

Around 30milion max i'd say.

Nb, Geebs you are turning into a bit of a transfer muppet these days. Be careful there, it can be a dangerous condition if not treated immediately.

Looking at our biggest buys in the last four summers:

2010: Bébé (7.8m)
2009: Dimitar Berbatov (33.4m)
2008: Anderson (27.3m) along with Nani and Hargreaves (22m)
2007: Michael Carrick (24m)

I wouldn't be too surprised if we splashed out 30-35m for Luka Modric.
