What do we still need? Post Summer 2016 edition

I think it is so obvious that Jose Mourinho is trying to apply the same system when he won treble with Inter Milan.

We don't know what his plan is for next season, but if he's really going to stick with the same system then he needs to get the right players this time. At the moment we don't have the right players to complete his system.

Milito - Zlatan
Eto'o - Mata/Mkhytaryan/Rashford/Lingard (None of these players are a great finisher like Eto'o)
Sneijder - Mkhytaryan/Griezmann/Pogba/Mata
Pandev - Martial/Rashford/Mkhytaryan (I'm not too sure if both Martial and Rashford are suitable to play in Pandev's role)
Stankovic - Pogba/ a new midfielder (Pogba lacks of discipline to play as a box to box)
Cambiasso - Herrera
Maicon - Valencia
Zanetti - a new LB (We don't actually have a proper left back who can stay fit)
Samuel/Lucio - Our current CB or a CB (Someone need to step up their level)
Cesar - DDG

Assuming that we are really in for Griezmann and able to keep De Gea and Zlatan: I can see Jose Mourinho is going to play this next season:
Cesar(Keeper): DDG
Zanetti (LB): A traditional left back
Samuel/Lucio: Rojo/Smalling or Bailly/Jones or a new CB
Maicon: Valencia
Cambiasso: Fabinho or a new midfielder
Stankovic: Herrera
Sneijder: Pogba
Pandev: Mkhytaryan
Eto'o (Inside forward): Griezmann
Milito: Zlatan (Another clinical striker)

After his latest comments I'd say Shaw is gone. So LB, CM due to selling Schneiderlin/Schweinsteiger and Rooney/Carrick likely gone. Griezmann hopefully and a CB. This will be one of our most interesting transfer windows ever.

Another tremendous performance from Keita at the weekend. Scored a brace and was tireless. Great to see he's no ill effects after his collapse.

Probably a type of midfielder that we need right now as well. He can defend and also offer attack.

Keita is my muppet dream, he's Kante who can attack. He's immense.

I hope we priority this guy. If Jose really want Kante's type of player then Keita is the man he should be getting this summer. What we lack in midfield is someone who can either control or dominate the midfield. I think Keita is in the category who can dominate the midfield.

You're right again Mike09. That's a good way of putting it.

2 attacking players (2 wingers, or winger + striker), and 1 defensive midfielder. Those are a must. Any other position is just a bonus, or if the key player leaving (DDG?). I'm hoping they aren't another "project", but ready-to-go players for the first team.

A new CB is not an urgent; surprisingly they've proved that they actually pretty decent. For fullbacks, if we retain Ashley Young as he can play on both, isn't a must also.

I think if we aim for the League, these are adequate. Also, too many new players would take time to gel.

They have already said 2 or 3 incoming players, as they want to keep this group together but take it to the next level. If we believe the comments attributed to Jose & Woody and assume it's only 3 players, I see three possibilities:

a) left back, a midfielder, and an attacking right winger
Or
b) Midfielder, additional striker, and an attacking right winger.
Or
c) a CDM, a Midfielder, Attacking player.

Jose doesn't seem to have a set left back and has been rotating Rojo, Blind, Darmian, Ashley Young in a position that was supposed to be Luke Shaw's. Going by recent comments, Jose doesn't rate Luke at all. So (A) is a good possibility.

But you can make a good argument for (B), because despite the issues with our left back, our defense as a unit has performed well this year (3rd best in EPL). What we need most is goals, so perhaps we will get a couple of highly talented finishers plus another body in midfield (possibly a CDM) to replace the scmidfielders who left.

An argument can also be made for (C) as well, because we are short of midfielders. Besides, perhaps Jose will bring a couple of midfielders and then deploy Pogba more as an attacking midfielder.

A lot will depend on what players are available. It is not easy to find the highly talented finishers we may want/need.

We need five replacements, maybe even six if there is anything to the DDG rumours.

Carrick, Fellaini, Rooney, Zlatan, Smalling/Jones all need to be replaced in one transfer window if we are to have a real chance of challenging for the title and competing in the CL (if we make it there).

We need 2 top strikers. a proper winger LW I think is more important. At least 1 top CB to play with Bailly. A proper DM a player who can also pass tackle and bring the ball out from the edge of the box. all this as a minimum. We might have to get another GK if De Gea goes.

What we need is Fellaini to fck off back to Cambodia or wherever he is from.....

Today demonstrated that we need two midfielders of very high quality. Take Pogba out and our midfield crumbles.

I would not be surprised if they are all still here next season

 Utterly pathetic comment.

We didn't crumble, at all. We got a point at City and didn't even concede despite going down to 10 men.

Typical, spoiled, FIFA generation attitude, sometimes a 0-0 is fecking good result.

The only way the midfield let themselves down is with Fellaini's utter idiocy.

Absolute state of your reply.

We lacked a playmaker today, that much was obvious. Figure in that Pogba\Herrera can't play every match and that Fellaini should be moved on plus the fact that Carrick will be on his last legs next season and you have the need for two more midfielders.

And today we crumbled in midfield but coped in defence. Our midfield dropped down to act as a second line of defence and we had no penetrative passer to take advantage of the room City left behind and the pace of Rashford.

Also us winning the ball didn't happen in midfield, it happened just outside our own box which we had packed.

Midfield went missing today and if you can't see that there is no hope for you.

All I really want is a defensive midfield above all. Ain't much to ask for.

If we could get one of Redmond/Gray in as well as Manolas too that'd be great.

If we sell Fellaini (which we really should) then that leaves us with five central midfielders. We'd still arguably need one more again.

I don't view TFM and Blind as CMs. They can definitely deputize when needed, but they are more defensive utility players imo. That Naby Keita and Radja Nainggolan would be good buys. Alternatively, if we can snag Vidal, then all the better.

I'm sorry, but to come in sniveling about 'we need' this or that, after just taking a point from City with an injury decimated squad is the perfect embodiment of the spoiled, modern footy fan.

This is a squad that will finish above City and Liverpool if we take our games in hand, and we were playing with 10 men FFS.

Should be proud of this team atm, not demanding what we need like a spoiled kid.

World class CB, CM and Foward. Oh, good young right back....

100% right in my book.....

Oh right, that puts it in to perspective then. Listen up everybody, we don't need to sign anybody. Let's all take off our shoes, hold hands and dance in the fecking woods and be proud of how great we are.

We will sign 1 midfielder, and even then Fellaini will still get games, because he's a decent squad option.

Pogba and Herrera are must starters, and we don't even play 3 midfielders in every game.

CB, LB, RB, #6, #8, winger/wide forward, #9. Too much for a single window. I'd be inclined to move the RB and CB to the bottom of the list of priorities and try to get the other five players.

Proud of what? They were all over us and if they could finish they'd have won easily, we offered nothing because without Pogba we had no one that could run the ball out of midfield or use the ball creatively to set our attackers free. We need a pure Defensive midfielder and another box to box option, it has nothing to do with spoilt or any of these other wishy washy words used to defend the awful dreck like Fellaini. Yesterday Real Madrid rested Kroos and Modric and had Isco and Kovacic to deputize, with the amount of money we are shelling out we should have comparable quality options.

I think Fellaini and Carrick will be back as midfielders 4 and 5 (Pogba, Herrera and one signing as 1-3) but Rooney being back makes no sense and Zlatan's injury will probably keep him out.

I could definitely see one of Jones or Smalling asking to leave if we sign a CB since they're likely behind Bailly and Mourinho seems to trust Rojo and rate Tuanzebe, and Blind can play DM and LB, though I could also see Blind leaving for some decent size foreign side that's sort of a mess and could use him to plug a hole at DM, LB or LCB, like a Valencia or Fiorentina.

Basically, I figure one defender will ask to leave, though we should probably include Darmian in that list.

GK*
CB
CMx2
LW (left footed ideally lol)
CFx2

*dependent on DDG obviously

Carrick, Fellaini and Jones are going nowhere.

I think Smalling is a liability and needs to be sold. I've never truly rated him or liked him in our line up. I rate Jones a lot higher, we can afford to keep Jones if we flog Smalling and bring another CB in, one who doesn't get injured 6 times a season.

Think we need a solid centre back who can play 50 games a season if needed..... My choice: Keane

A defensive ball winning defensive midfielder, whose decent on the ball to replace Carrick...... My choice: Bakayoko

A world class attacker who can help us turn draws into wins...... My choice: Griezmann

An experinced striker to back up Rashford, who won't throw a paddy been on the bench but is good enough to start....... My Choice: Hernandez

You're talking absolute shit. Wanting a better squad thatcan compete for the title, at MAN UTD, has nothing to do with being spoiled.

Of course we will invest, of course we need to. But we need 2 World Class starters in midfield!? That's utterly ridiculous.

The last month Pogba has shown that he's a deserved starter, Herrera has done the same all season, and, again, we don't always even play 3 midfielders!

Fellaini's been given a contract extension so will still be here, and he is useful, very useful.

And then what about youth coming through? You buy 2 World Class midfielders on top of the above and you've got no chance of bringing anyone through.

Wanting a better squad and making daft demands that are never gonna happen are 2 very different things.
