What do we do in central defence?...

The fit CBs will play every match, with only a possible dead rubber EL and the LC match as exceptions. They will be fine as long as they don’t get injured and I’m intrigued to see how they do, given Lindelöf was actually expected to start the season.

I'll be interested to see Lindelof and Martinez together, I think they might do ok. Martinez aggressive, Lindelof sweeping. It's only set pieces where I'd be worried really but perhaps you play Casemiro and McT together in midfield to provide extra physicality. Could play Eriksen 10 and Bruno out wide if you don't want to drop either of them.

I'm still convinced that could be his best position. He has almost all the tools for todays game with speedy strikers, but I am worried about his lack of positioning and awareness at times. But looking at most of our other CB's that means he'll fit right in!
He has one tool.

Has anyone considered Scot mactoninay as the defensive cover for Varane? They are players with different temperament but I think Scot could be a fantastic defender. He has the height, aggression and discipline. The only problem is his not too good distribution along the line as compared to Lindelof who I think is one of the Passersr of the ball but again his problem is physicality. Lindelof is a top top defender anywhere else but premier league

Phil Jones

Or something that has been caf's fantasy for a long time, Bissaka at CB.
He’d be terrible but look good at being terrible. All the tackles would make him look good, but hide the fact that he can’t read the game and lacks positioning skills.

Personally I’d rather McTominay be a centre back than a midfielder as he’s positionally poor for a midfielder and nowhere near good enough on the ball although he’d be good enough on the ball to play as a centre back.

He’s tall, strong, would be quick for a centre back, aggressive, good in the air and alongside a leader to guide him like Varane or Martinez would be a stronger option than Lindelof (who ironically I think would be better as a defensive midfielder) or Jones but ETH seems to like McTominay in midfield and wants Timber too.

Perhaps he shouldn’t be a Manchester United player if he’s not good enough in midfield?

Scott pulls and climbs all over people too much for my liking which would be a concern in defence. He gives away a ridiculous number of fouls and always gets booked as it is. I agree that he does have the physical qualities though, and I guess those physical qualities have already taken him this far so who knows where else.
