Welcome to Manchester reception committee
Our first WFA Cup match of the season and we're up against Newcastle who play in the Women's National League North, currently top of the league.
Current record P11 W10 D1 L0
GF 37 GA 4

Newcastle's new owners brought them fully into the club in 2022 with the intention of turning them into a full-time pro team. It's believed that process is already well underway. They've already played at St James' Park a couple of times - getting 20k+ crowds each time.

Hmmm ... Their last three games have been 7-0, 11-3 and 5-0. Clearly they are WSL standard so it will be a stern test for us.

That said, they are not having to compete against top-level teams. We will have the quality and experience to win this game

Yeah, I don't think that National League North Premier is too close to WSL standard, but they look like they would not struggle in the championship. Let's hope the Malta trip has been energising and they come back with a bit of confidence. And Skinner to come back with a couple of new ideas when we a struggling to break a team down!

Should be smashing this Newcastle team really, especially with such a strong starting line-up. Already missed a couple of good chances. Hope it's not one of those days.

Saudi Arabia looking strong, they can compete for the WSL title in 2 years.

Earps have already told her teammates to get it together.

A comfortable 2-0 lead at HT. Two excellent goals from Toone and Parris. United have totally dominated despite being a bit casual in possession at times.

Is Mary Earps getting booed by some United fans at Leigh Sports Village today?

Beautiful passing move for the fourth, going the length of the pitch from Earps to Williams.

A lovely gesture by Newcastle to randomly pick someone out of the crowd to play in goal

5-0 in the end. Not gonna lie, the first 20 minutes were scary, our passing was so poor and we were giving Newcastle hope. Eventually our class showed though and even though we weren’t at our best, we gave Newcastle a lesson in the difference between facing semi-pro/amateur teams each week and facing a professional side. They could do with investing in a goalkeeping coach if they wanna make that step up. Credit to their fans though, I think that’s the biggest group of away fans I’ve seen at LSV and they made themselves heard. The WSL could do with having a fanbase like that.

Are they as physically disturbing as their male fan base ( you know, bare bellies and all)?

Don’t know about “physically disturbing” but it was slightly embarrassing watching them wave their scarves around everytime we scored like it was a Carabao Cup final or something.

Thankfully they were just below the cameras. One loud and out of tune male voice shouting throughout.

The game - a very assured performance. Earps did not have a save to make. Riviere was excellent and there were good surging runs from Le Tissier and Turner. The forwards all did well with really good goals, Ladd was solid, but for me Zelem was outstanding. Her performances often go unnoticed.

Yes, she puts good performances in on a steady basis. Thanks for the match info- missed the game, unfortunately.

Bless him - imitating Toone's goal celebration. What is more concerning for me is the person in a gimp mask next to Millie Turner.

5th round Cup draw is away to Southampton - not too bad, and Man City v Arsenal is a tasty one which makes our run a little easier!
