Westminster Politics 2024-2029

The removal of undergraduate tuition fees and a compensatory increase in Teaching Grants would increase the total Exchequer cost per cohort of UK domiciled students by approximately £11.23 billion

It's really feck all in the grand scheme of things. It would be even less if universities didn't waste so much in administration.

Down in London for a couple of days and was walking past HoP and saw a “visitors” gate… asked what it was and it was to go into the viewing gallery. Never been in so thought give it a go… education discussion was on. Admin waste was mentioned.

Noticed two things, one I knew (the answers to the questions are dull and noncommittal) and one I didn’t … the person answering for the Govt (Sec of State today) has a detailed file with tabs and colour coded pages. Between the two, felt even more a waste of time than I’d previously thought.

Stayed for an MP asking for a new law… to stop companies who dig up the roads taking ages, and if they overrun, giving big fines, each time. I would have clapped if it wasn’t for all the signs saying not to.

On the way out, guy said I could go to the House of Lords too. Said no (I didn’t want to wake them up)

I had no idea university was so expensive.
I only just realised how much money I am going to be required to find, to send my two kids to Uni, because their maintenance grant is assessed against my income. And even then, they will still leave up to their eyeballs in debt. The system fcuks everyone.

If you have kids approaching GCSE age, you need to be looking into it now

It's funny how often he makes noise about this issue and no one ever really listens.

Until they actually rebrand the terminology used from debt to tax no one will quite grasp it. It also hides the real issue for me which is given you're paying a graduate tax at what stage does that additional tax make university unappealing.

For me it wasn't an issue as it was far lower and I've long since paid mine off but the fees now mean you're paying longer and longer.

That's a bit surprising - as awful as Coutinho is, I'd have thought she would've been viewing a bigger job given how popular Coutinho seems to be with the media. I guess Tufton Street are happy with her work undermining the energy transition and don't want her moved.

The state of some of the names on here.

Tbf to the Tories, they have so few MPs they're picking from a shallow pool. And given that's typically a pool of shitbags anyway, there are bound to be some less than impressive names in significant positions.

Just checked... maybe two tier could try and get him charged.

Convicted of a serious criminal offence would remove him, i meaning its worse than hitting a chap with his hands in his pockets, that dude probably deserved it he was clearly a far right.

That's some whataboutery right there.

Did Starmer actually answer one question? I thought Kemi did well for her first PMQ’s.
He did...

Does the Prime Minister really think it is acceptable? For backbenchers suggest at the lead of the opposition represents white supremacy in blackface, and is the most prominent member of white supremacy's black collaborator class with all the race trace innuendo's that that carries, and if it doesn't, why hasn't you remove the whip?

PM: No, I don't know
