Legends need to start more than 14 league games in a season. The guy is a crock, thank Christ he thought he was worth 200k a week.
Likes contradicting himself and his agent, if those quotes are real. He probably felt it ws close because every week the British media said that we would submit a bid by the end of the week etc. It was all bullshit and a lot of people lapped it up.
The crock factor is a bit overrated. He's averaged 25 games or so in the league and 36 in all comps.
I'd imagine he thought it was close based on what his advisers were telling him rather than anything he read in a British newspaper.

We are talking about starts. 25 in the league is not enough for a key player at the top of the wage bill anyway, 65% of games?
Everything I said about him last Summer has come true this season in terms of his shit attitude and frequent injury problems. I'm very disappointed that we supposedly showed serious interest in signing him to be honest.
Which means a massive change in formation just to accommodate him, no thanks.

Wrong. It would mean we'd need reliable back up for Carrick. For he wouldn't be able to survive carrying him for a whole season the way he has done with Scholes this year.
Its impossible to predict how many starts he would get in the future. Therefore, the injury factor is not a particular valid argument against buying him. A 200k/wk wage bill speaks far more negatively than his fitness.
He's a quality player but that ship has sailed now.
I have 24, 22 and 14 league starts for his three seasons in Italy. That is an average of 20 a season, which is a depressing 53%. His highest at 64% and his lowest at 37%.
Are you seriously telling me that you think he is worthy of topping our wage bill?

That is clutching at straw Raul, you can make a prediction on the future measured from relevant past events. He has only once made more than 30 league starts in his career and that was in 2006/07 when he made 31 for Ajax.
I reiterate that I believe this player to be unworthy of topping our wage bill.
Wiki has it at 26,25,20 league appearances.

You can't predict the future, no one can, so nots waste one anothers time pretending its a legitimate point of discussion.
Those are apps I am talking about starts. key players come off the bench when they are coming back from injury. He would top our wage bill without question, he would require 180k in line with Rooney, as he was offered last year, only he wanted 200k.
I believe starts to be the relevant figure for players at the top end of the wage bill, as by defintion they should be starting every game that they are available for.

If he was injured for various parts of the year then appearances are a more relevant stat than just starts. Only using starts renders him invisible in situations when he was brought on as a sub.
Although guaranteed information about the information is in many cases impossible, prediction is necessary to allow plans to be made about possible developments
From the Wiki defintion of predictions. You are a very smart guy Raoul, I don't know why you are arguing this point with me. It is absolutely relevant to look at a players past injury record before signing them.
Key players only tend to get benched when the are coming back from injury. By defintion they start the vast vast majority of league games that they are available for.
I don't deny that injury records are important, but in Sneijder's case his wages were the most prohibitive issue. That's been my point from the beginning.

I don't think Sneijder's heart was in it, after last summer, and his patchy appearances record is partially the result of a lack of enthusiasm regarding playing for Inter.
