Some interesting quotes from Teddy Sheringham on the prospects of Fergie making another effort to sign Sneijder this summer.

http://www.espnstar.com/football/pr...1/Sheringham-expects-United-bid-for-Sneijder/

"I think they will [make a bid for Sneijder], without a doubt," Sheringham said, according to the Daily Mail. "The manager tried to sign Sneijder last year and when he likes someone, he very rarely lets go of that bone and he will go back in for them.

"He did the same for a lot of players - like Ruud van Nistelrooy. He had a broken leg when he first went in for him but he went back in for him a year later - it wouldn't surprise me if he goes back in for Sneijder and he finally gets his man."

Wouldn't surprise me either TBH.

I would be very surprised.
Will be 28 before preseason starts and has had another season affected by injuries.

Dont think it'll make much sense.

Three seasons in row where he has had a poor injury record. Considering our injury record................Christ, I hope to God that we don't sign this turkey. :wenger:

This was in the Sneijder thread a while ago, to be fair. I remember because I thought I got to it first myself only to find someone already posted it.

Since I seem to be one of the few around here who think we might try again I was glad to see it. With Inter finishing in 6th and out of Europe entirely, and Moratti through with throwing away hundreds of millions on the team, I can see him being uninterested in spending the last best years of his career in a rebuilding effort.

So Raoul, you reckon we'll get Kagawa, Hazard, Strootman and Sneijder?

Personally, i think Sheringham hasn't got a clue what he's on about and has just been reading the papers, who equally don't have a clue and fabricated a pack of lies about us being after him last summer.

His wages were allegedly the main problem last summer if I recall. He is approaching the prohibitive age range as well.

This would be a silly purchase now. Focus on Kagawa/Hazard who have youth on their side.

Buying two players seems realistic. Not sure how much more space we'll have beyond that.

Then why are people banging on about RVP. This is the first season he has been fit. I would be hilarious is City signed him and he is promptly injured. There again it wouldn't be if he stayed fit. :(

If he looks after himself he could have another 6-8 years performing at a very high rate. With his intelligence and skill on the ball I think he could be turned into a regista, a deep lying playmaker, when he loses a bit of pace in his mid 30s.

Sneijder cafe Mk II!!!

If the price is right (15-20M), I wouldn't mind taking a punt on him but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

I still think it's highly unlikely though.

If we can get Kagawa then we should forget about Sneijder.

In fact, we should forget about him anyway, after yet another season of struggling with injuries. I wanted him last summer but Cleverley and Anderson really don't need company in the medical room, they are there for each other.

Best player at the last WC that wasn't Spanish, surely he's not a turkey.

He has started an average of 21 league games a season in the past three years, just 14 this this season. For 180k a week and 20m he is a fecking turkey.

Big if with his injury history. Fergie will not go into the new season with Anderson, Sneijder, Cleverley with their injury records and Fletcher with his health issues.

The player himself said talks took place.

Who was the muppet that spend all last summer wanking over Sneijder? I know most of us were but there was someone in particular who was the worst at it.

I don't know, didn't we go into this season with 1 reliably fit striker under 36?

I'll admit the health concerns are serious, and I haven't taken them much into account.

Has he had the kind of injuries that suggest it will continue to be a problem, like hurting the same knee over and over, or a bad back?

But it's definitely a risk no matter. Just for a change of pace it would be nice to get an indestructible player.

His agent and everyone involved at Inter repeatedly said no talks had taken place. Sneijder said no official talks had taken place and then got asked about 'unofficial' talks and he sheepishly said yeah. Tbh, I don't believe him. Id say we could have contacted his agent to ask about bis situation, but there was never any proof that we went any further.

I believe what Sneijder said is that there was contact but it never got to the point where he talked to anyone from United.

That's exactly that. Sheringham's quotes are meaningless, he doesn't know anything.

The Sneijder ship has sailed, he's a year older now. It's over.

sneijder kagawa hazard

i realise we probably wont sign any of these.

He had his chance to join us. We should be focusing on younger talented players like Kagawa instead who'd cost less and would potentially be with us for much longer.

We won't sign Kagawa and Sneijder/Hazard etc.
