Weird things about football that are true but don't sound it

How have I never heard of them until just now??

Did he play DM exclusively? When did he move to centre back?
I've never seen played in midfield tough, but the wikipedia registered him as Midfielder in 1991/1992. He might be move to center back because of injuries issues or something like we did with Daley Blind.

Kingsley Coman wins the domestic league every season since he started his senior career.

He has also played as a box-to-box midfielder with a lot of licence to go forward, although he was never purely an attacking player.

Fernando Hierro once scored 26 goals in a season from centre back.
As for this — this is not true.

Team of the week from 91/92 after he scored a goal against Barca. Notice "centrocampista" and his place in the XI of the week.

If you want to look at a truly impressive goalscoring records from center back, take a look at Ronald Koeman.

And he really was a center back all of that time (well, at least predominantly) — winning 7 league titles, 2 European Cups and a UEFA Euros to boot. He did score a lot of penalties and free kicks though.

Hm. I can't remember where I saw it but someone made a show of themselves in another topic saying that, so I put it in here. I can't find the original topic and probably should have linked to it in my original post. But yeah not my opinions, was just taking the piss out of someone else. So kindly rescind your comment.

gladly rescinded mate ;)

I think this has to be the weirdest stat I've seen

Norwich’s 3rd highest Premier league goal scorer is Serge Aurier.

Only Pukki and Cantwell have scored more than one league goal for them.

A manager transformed a lower half 2nd division team into 1st division champion within 4 years.

That squad has an average age of 19 years old and their captain 20 years old.

One year later, that manager is sacked.
Alex Ferguson

Henry and Bergkamp have never scored in a major final for Arsenal.

No team in England has ever won the top flight division more than 3 times in a row...

Huddersfield Town
1924/25/26

Arsenal
1933/34/35

Liverpool
1982/83/84

Man Utd
1999/2000/2001
+
2007/08/09

...contrast that with the top leagues across Europe, and it shows how competitive playing in England is.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, each time Man Utd were runners-up in the Premier League, the following year they were champions...

Runners-up............Winners

1995.......................1996

1998.......................1999

2006........................2007

2010........................2011

2012........................2013

Quite an achievement!

Since 1982, Bayern Munich has had at least one of their players appear on the pitch at every World Cup Final.

It's actually crazy how often Germany reaches the final of a world cup.

Especially three times in a row in the 80's, while also being European Champions along the way is really impressive considering how underrated their players of that era have become.

Obviously Lothar Matthäus and Karl-Heinz Rummennigge are rightfully considered as being among of the greatest of all time on their respective positions, but even they have become underrated I would say. Especcially Rummenigge.

Toni Schumacher is remember only for that kick, which made people completely forget how good of a gk he was, and the rest of that team I cannot even recall.

Perhaps it's the fact that the generation before them (Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller) actually outshone them is what makes these players so underappreciated in the history books, or perhaps it's Germany's lack of patriotism, I don't know, but I remember being pretty fearful of that Germany team full of names I don't even remember now. Holland won our only trophy in 1988, but for us the biggest match of that tournament wasn't the final but it was the semi-final against Germany.

History hasn't been kind to them. Rummenigge won two Ballon d'Ors and has been completely forgotten. It's like the opposite of Zidane, who's legacy only grew after retiring.

Wow! That's incredible!

Wolves's season started more than a year ago (25th July 2019), it's now 27th July 2020 and it has still not finished.

Harry Kane returned to Tottenham from his loans at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich, Leicester, went on to become a prolific striker for a few seasons, and became a bit shit this year. And during all this time Tottenham "nearly" won trophies, while the club he helped push for a promotion from the Championship became champions of England.

Became a bit shit this year? 24 goals in 34 games.

In San Marino's two biggest ever defeats, they conceded exactly as many goals combined as they have managed to score in total in their 164 official games to date.

Deschamps insists it isn't personal, but Laporte disputes that apparently.

France do also have an extraordinary amount of high quality centre backs though.
Still I wouldve thought theyd called Laporte before Kurt Zouma and freaking Mamadou Sahko. Im with Laporte on this one, surely there must be something personal. One thing is not being a starter but no being played at all and barelely called?

In the Championship semi-final versus Watford in 2013 Leicester had both Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy on the bench.

Not quite as strange as the fact that despite getting knocked out they were winning the Premier League only three years later, but still a bit weird to imagine nonetheless.

Lindelof (33 caps) has more international goals than Bruno (19 caps) and Martial (18 caps)
