Weird feelings of football

What's with all these pundits and commentators talking about "Yorke" and Solskjaer in 99? Am I missing something? Heard at least 3 now.

Perhaps they’re referencing the Liverpool FA Cup comeback? Although why bother when the Bayern final is a far more noteworthy example of what they’re on about.

Considering population size, Brazil has rarely been very impressive to me. They are barely ahead vs Argentina over 110 games, which has 22% of their population.

Sometimes clearly the best national team on the planet, but they "should" also be that with that culture and population.

They've not had the sort of wealth and stability that would enable them to fullly take advantage of that population, even though the sport is like a religion there. And even more importantly, football's a sport where smaller countries can compete well if they have a similarly strong culture for the game. Population matters, but it's far from being a linear thing. Argentina could be even stronger too with a better historical political situation, but it is a big enough country that it's within that area where it can compete with anyone on a first team squad basis.

If internationals had also consistently played and fully recorded games with B/C/D teams alongside the main team schedule then that's when you would see the population advantage of a country like Brazil show in the results vs Argentina, England, Germany, Italy, France, etc..

Brazil has never beaten Norway (current population of 5.5 million).

Their record vs Norway is 0-2-2, and I think it's the only team Brazil has played more than once (or twice?) without ever beating.

Automated offsides came in for about a week then we went back to VAR checking a simple offside for two minutes again.

Every player in the Portugal national team either plays for Wolves or PSG.

We judge players based on what other players do all the time, but we "never" talk about it.

1. A player can create three big chances, if all of those chances are missed, he might get a 6/10 if he was weak/average the rest of the game. But if all are scored, he is almost guaranteed a 9 with an identical performance.

2. If Haaland senior+ a few others did not jump/land differently that day, 50% of us would be looking at Keane/Insert Names a lot more negatively.

Every time a player tries to catch the keeper out by shooting for goal from a long way out, the co commentator will declare that he can “see what he was trying to do” as if it wasn’t immediately obvious to everyone else

 so true

PSG miss more clear cut chances than any other club in the last 12 years

Fulham only appear in 2 Premier league games a season against Utd. The rest of the year they don't exist.
