We will never win the league with De Gea in goal | Prophecy fulfilled

I've long held the idea that if de Gea should leave, it'd actually prompt us to finally get a top notch defense again as it'd be obvious that we couldn't overlook it any longer...

This would probably lead to us actually becoming a better team - so the thread might not be as ludicrous as it initially appears.

If you hypothetically imagine a lesser keeper like, say, Heaton, with VVD and Ake in front of him, and compare it to DDG with Smalling and Jones in front of him - as a team, the former would be better.

More likely scenario would be having to spend a huge fee on a new keeper like Chelsea did this past summer.

Happy to sell him for 80m, install Romero as the number 1 and use the funds towards rebuilding the defence. GK asking for 400k is absurdity. Especially a limited one.
The likes of Barca and Madrid have won leagues/CL with GK like Bravo, Navas etc. If there's quality in the team the need of a top GK is reduced.

Had to look twice when I saw the title, I think DDG is the last united player who deserves this.

Terrible distribution. We cannot play the ball out from the back with him, he goes missing in big games and clutch moments. We need a keeper who can organise his defence and be more assertive in the box, someone who'll help our CBs play to their strengths and make our defence seem better as a unit. Someone who won't demand 400k a week and disrupt our wage structure with his new contract. Would gladly sell if RM came calling. Sell DDG and then buy the next big English keeper, Jordan Pickford.

Am I doing this right?

David De Gea has been our only top class player since Fergie retired, we need to show a lot more respect to this guy. If anyone at this club has the right to demand a big salary, De Gea is the one.

He hasn't had a great season, but to see people write him off is ludicrous, it really is.

De Gea's the best shot stopper in the world, has saved us many times but needs to improve his distribution and command of his box. It's like he's stuck on the goal line most times.

I don't begrudge him wanting top wages. He's one of our best players and one of the best around. I don't begrudge him wanting to leave either. He's carried us for far too long because of our poor team and squad and has a better chance winning trophies every year, elsewhere.

Woodward keeps rewarding mediocrity and is the reason players like De Gea and others want to jump ship.

Spot on I think . He is out of form with passing out from goal, can't always be the best.
hold on there fella. In one post you agree his distribution is pants and far from the best but the next he should be the best paid keeper.

With regards to wage structure, talking about Rooney / Keane etc was years ago. Keane didn't kill our wage structure, neither was Rooney's. The sanchez deal is the big issue as no one would complain if we had Messi and he was earning £500k p/w but everyone else earned less to have him in our team.

And how about you do some research into what keepers earn at Real / Barca / Bayern / Juve/ Liverpool etc...and then come back and argue why we should be paying 3x what Allison earns at Liverpool or Ter Stegen at Barca

this would considerably weaken us

we are talking about arguably the best goalkeeper in the World. Hes been our Player of the Year several seasons in a row

now hes hit a period of rocky form people are willing to move him on..... ridiculous for me

given our transfer record as well there's absolutely no guarantee we'd spend the money well

I'd sell him in the summer. He doesn't want to be here, he is asking for too much for a GK (thanks a lot Sanchez and Ed), and he hasn't even been that good this year.

I would probably replace with Romero, but this would undeniably weaken the GK spot. But I just don't think we can sell him then spend over 90m on Oblak or whoever else (don't forget, that load of shite Kepa cost 75m) when we have much bigger weaknesses.

It would weaken us, in the same way selling Coutinho weakened Liverpool. But if you had the choice between DDG/Smalling or Romero/World class defender(or midfielder, or attacker), which would you choose? I don't think it's that simple..

I think it's just really easy to take a keeper for granted. If De Gea goes and a new keeper comes in, I'm sure fans will quickly realize how important he has been.

I remember when Edwin got injured for just a few weeks in 2009 and it probably didn't concern United fans too much at first, but then Foster came in and was at fault for maybe 7-8 goals in barely two months.

Romero/Van Dijk everyday of the week. Another top defender, but this time, a goalkeeper that is not scared of leaving his line.

Why don't you do some research into it, you seem to know the in an outs of global football, you must have some great contacts,to know that. And as for years ago, that's when the wages went up, and still are, so to stop, paying the top players the big wages and sell, is suicidal management, club team goes backwards. If left up to the likes Utd would have pub players and loads of cash in the bank.. never mind hey. As for his distribution said it's been not so good of late, this guy has been player of the year on more than one occasion? Form is temporary Class in permanent ! So come up with another pointless point. .
