Barthez was only a few mil wasn't he? I'd call that a bargain. Blanc on a free, tremendous bargain as he is pure gold :D

Barthez was bought for 7 million plus

Not exactly a bargain

Solksjaer was purchased form 1.5 million pounds - now that's a bargain

Blanc was brought in for a one season stop-gap measure to cover for stam's departure, he's not going to be a bargain for next season.

Barthez cost 7 mill, Kirkland cost Liverpool 8 or 9 mill. An unproven Div1 keeper for more than a world reknowned keeper, work it out.

Yeah but what I mean was the atmosphere for this type of fixture the 'we only need to turn up for this one' fixture. Before the resurrection of the stretford end the atmosphere for these type of games was piss-poor. You have to say there has been an improvement in the last few years though.

Just because pool signed a more expensive unknown doesn't mean we got Barthez on the cheap.
