We need a fecking centre forward thread

Perhaps but won't exactly solve our biggest need right now
Took years to have a decent DM, will took years to have a functional striker. When our need is shifted to another position it will take years. Just hope Ten Hag won't give up easily.

I really don't get the clamour for this. He is woeful with his back to goal, invariably loses possession in tight areas and struggles to link the midfield as a 10/ shadow striker (or whatever the f' he is). What is it about his skillset people think is conducive to playing as a false 9?

False 9 doesn't play with back to goal so much, nor connect with the midfield as much as a 10 (his current position). You've basically listed his flaws in his current position. As a false 9 he would play purely in the opponents final third, getting in and around the box as much as possible. He creates tons of chances when he has wide players making diagonal runs in behind, with either through balls, flicks, or chipped passes. And his finishing and shooting is generally good. It'd allow (two of) Rashford, Antony and Sancho to cut inside more rather than stood tamely on the touchline. And a third CM so we can actually attempt to dominate possession in games.

Obviously we need a striker as Ronaldo is completely done, Martial seems to be made of the same stuff that Daniel Sturridge and Darren Anderton both were and Rashford is clearly so much better from the left and only used through the middle as last option.

Problem was Ronaldo had no takers whatsoever, we had to stock up in midfield and out wide and in the summer who was there striker wise that was genuinely available and of sufficient quality ? We knew we couldn’t fix all the holes in one window.

Once we move Ronaldo, De Gea and Maguire on in the summer we’ll be saving well over a million a week in wages and then we’ll still have Henderson, AWB, Bailly, Jones, Tuanzebe, Telles and VDB to move on too so we’ll have lots of space to bring in a top level striker.

If we’re able to bring someone like De Jong and a top level striker both in next summer I think we’d be in a fantastic position to challenge for trophies next season. We’d still need a cover centre back and maybe a right back but we’re not far away, keeping Martial fit as much as possible and motivated I think will be the difference between top four or not.

City won the league without a prolific striker. Now they have one and shat the bed at Liverpool

Yes we do. However, whilst we wait for the opportunity to bring a new striker in, I feel we have to stop playing Ronaldo.

I mean, at this stage, what's the point? He cant press, he can't hold the ball up, he can't run in-behind, he's managed one goal in open-play and obviously wants to leave.

I'm not saying we should discard him altogether but he shouldn't be starting. If Rashford and Martial are missing, use somebody, anybody else, even if it's a pure 'runner' like Elanga. Then we can bring Ronaldo off the bench for 30-mins and that will probably suit him right now.

Well, I said that in the Martial's thread before the season started, entering the season depending on Martial as our main center forward and with Ronaldo's debacle means we are basically giving up on the season. Guess what, I got crucified for this.

How dare City lose one game out of ten against one of the best teams in England? Unbelievable. These things never happen.

It certainly won't fix all of the issues we have to resolve if we ever want to be competitive with the likes of City and Liverpool, that will likely take years and revamping most of the squad, but a quality striker who can decide tight games like this can mask a lot of failings and could be the difference between us being serious contenders for the top 4 and what we will most likely be this year (a team probably finishing between 6th and 8th). The club has 8 months to identify the right man for next summer, hopefully they do a better job than they have in previous years.

Have you heard of these lovely guys from Florida called the Glazers? They own our club and don't like to spend money unless they think things are seriously bad.

Still after all these years, people see only personel as our issue.

I don't think this is a good idea because it could result in Rashford and Martial sulking and having their feelings hurt.
I can read the headline now: Martial out for 6 weeks with dislocated feelings and Rashford given compassionate leave due to a bruised ego.

Indeed, everyone on England spends more than Manchester United.

We have spent the most money. We just haven't spent it wisely.

When they did that City had about 7 first team players who are better than our first team players, and a better manager and he'd been managing them for much longer

And they went and signed the best striker going, because generally that's what you want. Pretty obvious that we're missing a player or two that can actually just get the ball in the net.

I think Rashford would be very with having a reliable strike partner. He makes no secret of enjoying playing with Martial.

Too bad the player who’d be playing there now is probably headed to prison.

Starting the season with Anthony Elanga as our starting right wing would also be disastrous, as would having McTominay and Fred as our defensive mid options. Guess what, we spent an absolute enormous amount of money already, and we had enormous holes in the squad, so deciding to not address a position that at least has 1 good option if he is fit, and a serviceable one in Ronaldo is understandable.

How come chelsea and man city have managed to still be successful without a striker.

There are deeper issues in the side in terms of coaching and creativity
We have issues all over the pitch. There are few players in our squad without question marks hanging over their heads. City are a well-oiled machine. They have the best manager in the world and much better players than us. Chelsea have had their own problems. They also desperately needed a striker and had to sign a 33-year-old to fill the gap.

Someone who can dominate in the penalty box, we have enough players who can put the ball in there. Someone who can finish the chance Rashford messed up today. Victor Osimhen, Erling Haaland, rare bunch these days.

We have tried to fill the void but it's mostly failed, Ronaldo's current state worked for the most part last season, Ighalo was a failure, Zlatan was good for a season. Need someone younger than them obviously.

Funny enough, we used to have a guy call Lukaku, just gave up on him and switch to strikers who are not traditional #9.

The reason this issue stands out like a sore thumb is because we haven't got quality wide attackers or midfield like City to compensate for no striker.

Yeah we dodged bullet there but sadly let other useful ones fall by the wayside
I've been on the Toney train for a while now but the way clubs gouge us on transfer fees nothing is straightforward and definitely not cheap.

The forward was far more important than Antony, I am sorry. We could have always played Rashford and Sancho as our main wingers, anyway. Rashford can even do a job on the right, it's really not a big deal.

Martial isn't even reliable that much when he is fit so imagine when he's not.

Rashford prefers playing LW to CF, what are some of you bellends smoking?
There was a story a few weeks back that he was pushing ten Hag to play CF. So I don't know that he wants to play LW as much as that's where he's best served.

We do need a CF obviously, but I'm not too irate about us not having one at the minute. We signed players this summer for other positions we desperately needed.

Martinez looks very good so far, and we needed a player like him in our defence. Malacia looks a good option. We signed a DM, which everyone was crying out for. Anthony was possibly surplus, but I think he has started well, and Ten Hag obviously wanted a player he knew and could work with. Everyone knew, or should have known, that our issues wouldn't be sorted in one window.

Ideally, we'd have shifted Ronaldo and signed a 9. It didn't happen. If our forwards could find their finishing boots, this wouldn't have been a massive issue so far. We've been creating chances. If we don't sign a CF next summer (ideally Jan but won't happen) then I'd be very worried.

Just the fans PR.

Ivan Toney would be an excellent signing. We need a center forward desperately.

Yes, we absolutely need a striker. We could do with one who can drop back and help out too. Sadly, we also need a more creative team around this striker though, as we create virtually nothing without Eriksen.

Murtough (or Arnold) said that we will not spend in January. So forget about forwards, full backs and midfielders until next summer.
If Ronaldo leaves in january then we will maybe go for some cheap backup option.

Same Sancho who's been bang average for 2yrs? Not to mention one injury and we'd have been back to Elanga on the RW. Antony was just as important a signing as a Midfielder/CF

Maybe because we sign good proper strikers we'll into their 30s. Cavani, Ronaldo, Ibra. When's the last time we signed a good young striker?
