Medal table doesn't lie. It was an overwhelming success. Our biggest medals haul to date. For a tiny little island we killed it. I read somewhere that if Manchester was a country, we would have been 4th or 5th in the medals table as most of our medals came from Manchester based athletes.

That makes no sense, its like saying Mo Farrah should be representing the US because he is based there.

The training base for the whole of the cycling team is based in Manchester..... Could very well have been based on the Orkney Islands and it would have made no difference to the result

I think you've looked way to far in to the post. Was simply stating that Manchester is home to most of the athletes, be it a training base or the actual location they live.

No idea how Mo Farrah and the US has anything to do with my post.

You said "if Manchester was a country, we would have been 4th or 5th in the medals table". That has no relation to where a athlete is based.

It was just a silly little stat that I read and included in my post and you've put two and two together and come out with nine. It was simply a little stat showing where the majority of our winning athletes train/live. Does this mean Manchester is a country? No. Does this mean Manchester is better than Germany in terms of sporting skill? No.

Give it up.

I swear you're on glue.

To put the medals from Manchester based athletes in to perspective, if it was a country it would have been 4th or 5th. Obviously it's not a country you pleb. I just love how you've nothing better to do than take a post way past what it was meant to be and scrutinise to the length you have.

Maybe I should have dumbed-down my OP by simply stating the athletes based in Manchester won the majority of medals. No doubt you'd have gone on to present a pie chart showing where every athlete in Team GB is from.

That's all from me.

What's wrong with that? A sizable share of the winners were mancunians, that all it meant. You don't have to be so anal about it.

Fontaine didnt get a foreign chick so its a nos from me.
Maybe he bought a new phone, although I doubt it.

Good, forget about dumbing things down, because what you are saying is ridiculous. I mean if Manchester were a country it would have a strikeforce of Zlatan and Aguero. :wenger:

You have posted a article that says "If Manchester was a country it would be FOURTH in Olympic medal table" It then goes onto list a bunch of cyclists because they train at the national cycle centre, which happens to be based in the Manchester. The only person that is from Manchester, is Jason Kenny.
It then goes on to list some hockey players, who are actually from Manchester, but the national Hockey centre is in Buckinghamshire, so how do you differentiate?

I'll probably get ripped apart for this and told i'm ignorant and what not and maybe i am. But something just doesn't sit right with me a country spending billions on basically a big sports party when so many of it's people live in poverty. So in that way for me it can't be a success.

keep reading the end of the thread title as sucksass for some reason.

and yes, the olympics does suck ass.

Its not just a big sports party. Its a chance for people to not only come and visit your country (so thats a lot of money coming in from tourism) but also a chance to advertise your country for 2 weeks (and an extra 2 weeks for the Paralympics) to the whole world.

I thought it was a success, yes the stadiums were half full sometimes, and the officiating wasn't great other times, but I thought with all the problems they faced, the government corruption, citizens not wanting it and Zika, they did a pretty good job

There's nothing necessary to differentiate. It's a simple harmless celebration of the affiliation between these Olympians and Manchester. No one is asking for special recognition from the IOC but of course you want to go get all uptight about it...

i get that their are upsides to having the games in your country, but still for me i can't get passed how much it costs and how that money could have been spent better.

Just my opinion.

Uptight, jeez, i am pointing out the ridiculous. You have said theres "A sizable share of the winners were mancunian". Who, Jason Kenny? Callum Skinner is from Scotland, Laura Trott from Essex ffs, she must be the least sounding 'mancunain' i have ever heard... What about Gabriel Jesus, is he included?

You have tried to back up your claim with a stupid article indulging itself with claims if Manchester were a country the whole cycle team would representing it, failing to mention only one person in that team is from Manchester.

It also wants to have claim to some hockey players and rightly so, as they are from Manchester but avoids the fact that they are training in Buckinghamshire. Yes its harmless, but stupid, incorrect and just reeks of a sense of superiority, which people latch onto, and why it was posted in the first place

Anyway here's is a better representation:
