Virgil van Dijk | Performances

Disagree. Arsenal (Community Shield), Leeds, Villa.... to name a few. He’s been poor at Premier League level.
Hes been poor since the restart last season but it was all swept under the already won the title rug.
It now looks more than that.

You don't think you'd be massively weakened without VD playing at his top level?
Obviously not playing at Leeds and Villa game level!
Of course we would, but that’s not the same as saying “they are so vulnerable without VVD”. We looked vulnerable with him too this season.

I did my ACL in three years ago. Walked off the pitch thinking it was just a sprain, even went back to play again 4 weeks later thinking I was fine only for my knee to completely crumble as soon as I kicked the ball. Got surgery after that. Still doesn't feel fully right now. It's such a diabolical injury.

My old boss did his knee, and knew it needed an operation. But he didn't fancy the rehab time, so just cracked on.

He even played footy once a week, but could only run in straight lines. Mad.

Had surgery a year ago for a bad ACL tear. I can't run anymore.

Blows the league wide open if this is true, honestly someone like Spurs could win it

Just to be clear - we're all speculating and there's every chance he's fine and could even start the next game if the injury wasn't too bad?

Some supports are small time as feck. I hope it's not a bad injury.

I’ve not read every comment, but I’ve not seen anyone say anything bad about VVD at all. Everything I’ve seen is either along the lines that this is a bad injury and questioning whether he comes back as good. Which is fair enough, or hoping it’s not serious, and if it is, hoping he makes a recovery.

Sorry, was not aimed soley at here. More the other forum I was just reading.

the Caf says a lot of things I disagree with, but it’s very rare I see anything where anyone is jumping up for joy when an opposition player is injured. I imagine Twitter is horrendous, and that’s why I don’t go there.

Exact same boat as you mate, if they'd have done an MRI straight away it would've been picked up. Did 3 months of physio, 5 mins into my first game back heard that horrible sound again.

Just had another MRI on it after a bit of pain a few years later, have a phone call booked in with the surgeon, hoping its good news and its just a bit of wear and tear.

This is a real shame, made all the worse by how it happened. Hopefully not as bad as reported. We need the best players competing every week.

Wish him a speedy recovery. Looked a bad one. Even if he is out, I think Gomez and Matip or Fabinho will surprise a few.
With or without VVD they will be in the mix for the title again this year.

they will clearly be in the mix. But it was him and Alison that took them to the next level.

Did mine 3 years ago defending a takedown, had surgery 2 years ago.
Still doesn't feel right, hurts when I run and when it gets cold (which is 8 months a year in Sweden). it's a terrible injury. I'm amazed at how Zlatan just healed in 6 months and is still playing at the highest level at 38.

Life style, food & hard work? Not a fan though.

I think Zlatan was clever with his recovery. Cancelled the second year of his contract at Utd when it was apparent that he wasn't going to get back up to speed quickly enough to play competitively at a high level. Went to MLS, feasted on the substandard shite over there, built up his fitness and confidence and then came back to Milan.

He played it perfectly. But even with taking all that into account, to do it at the age of 38 was nothing less than awe-inspiring. Especially when you consider it wasn't an ACL, but a PCL that he did - an injury that is much rarer in football, and much more serious.

Even if he is out id still expect them to win the title, just not as handidly. Look how bad everyone is. Right now its hard to see City getting last years 81 points.

Liverpool have had a blip sure but I reckon they get 86 points even without Van Dijk. Can we really see anyone else getting that?

Now if one of Salah or Mane get a long term injury then id say its blown wide open.

Did mine on the left years ago still not working as it should. Lost a yard of pace and mobility and I was young. But that said today's methods are much better and chances of recovery are much better. Terrible injury and will dent their chances hope he recovers well.

Exactly. Who else is good enough to get 85 or more? It might be open race but ultimately I don't see anyone else good enough.

Liverpool are on course for 68 points, not saying they won’t run away with it again but it’s not been the start they would have hoped for and maybe missing a key player until next year could level the playing somewhat.

Absolutely shocking challenge from Pickford, hopefully the injury isnt as serious as reported. ACL injury made me quit football at the age of 20, don't wish that injury on anyone.

In a way, he's blessed it may only be an ACL...

Think of the weight, force and angle of Sloth in that tackle. Could've easily been a full leg snap.

Wishing injury on a player
You should feel pretty ashamed about yourself. I’m not preaching. We all love football. And want to win, but I don’t want to see any player, even one who plays for our biggest rivals get a serious injury.

How about a not so serious injury? like a month or two out of the game?

I mean, what's the time limit you set yourself that you'd be happy to see them out?

Were you not happy when Torres turned to shite with Liverpool after his injury?

Will you not be happy if VVD turn to shite after coming back from this injury?
