Vincent Kompany: Man City quadruple a matter of time | Next year?

Even before reading this threads posts from today, as soon as I saw this bumped I knew exactly what the post was going to be. The only thing surprises me is that is wasn't along the lines of "City are so good this season that they probably will win quadruple. How I wish we had all of City's players and their superior manager. *sigh*" This place is absolutely out of its depth at the moment on the back of one result. I've seen love-ins of our rivals in the past on here but this is a whole other level of bullish stupidness.

And that result was a draw at Anfield. We didn't even lose.

Utterly embarrassing. It's like last season never happened.

Exactly. It was a cautious performance which was much more reserved than I was happy with but United sides in the past have gone to Anfield on the back of a huge amount of optimism only to be brought crashing down to earth. In the end we have a point here that may help in the final title flourish. If anything, Liverpool are bound to be hugely disappointed with that result seeing how they were on top for the majority of the match and yet still couldn't score and barely troubled De Gea.

I think Wolves will cause an upset in the League Cup. Just the treble then..

I have a fear they just might do it.
Very difficult. I think at max they will do a double. They are no longer playing the same way like they did in spetember/October. Their luck will run out eventually and their will always be 2 or 3 days where no matter how good you are you lose. I feel they will struggle in CL when facing a top side. Unfortunately for others they have wrapped up the league so they have one less to worry about. Have to stop them in other competitions.

They're very strong, but also clearly pretty error prone for a Pep side. The CL will be tough for them.

Domestic treble on the other hand..

Yesterday actually made me think of those comments. The celebrations were huge, Pep coming out and saying his style works in England (which it's doing) and it feels like a landmark moment for them. I'd still not want to invite pressure by acting as if things are done and dusted. I think there is certainly the potential for a dip, one or two results don't go their way and doubt creeps in.

They are a superb side, but they can suffer defeats and a minor crisis with form. If this was us, in their position, I'd want to keep expectations low and not hype up ourselves.

It was literally 3 games - Stoke, Liverpool and Watford.

They will struggle to beat Leicester in the league cup. The game is right after their match with Spurs, they will make many changes and are likely to fail.

No, they won't win the UCL. Average PL clubs just making them look good.
The same 4 other premier league clubs that are also in the CL round of 16 for the 1st time since....god knows when.

So your saying the PL is average, but the CL with the same clubs progressing as group stage winners, isn’t the same average for those clubs?

Hmmmm.

I doubt city will win it. Unless we have an almighty good rest of season with no more serious, crucial, long term injuries.

League is wrapped up so they can focus on going far in the champions league.

Quad might be a stretch but a domestic treble is a strong possibility.

Why are they likely to fail?

Leicester are a very good team at home and will be up for it. Kompany is injured, Stones is injured, Delph is their only LB, KDB and Silva won't probably feature, etc. They will probably play some kids.

I think United will be the first English club to win quadruple, it is obvious that we have improved dramatically from last season. Jose Mourinho has confirmed that we are only one window transfer away with 4/5 signing to be able to compete with top dogs in UCL. Pep won't deliver quadruple to City cos he's not a specialist in the knockout.

Jose hasn't been that great in the CL since Inter which was 7-8 years ago. Their record since then is similar, maybe Guardiola's is better though.

Their record is not similar, depend on how they manage the quality of the club. Jose has managed Porto and Inter Milian, he won the champions league with them, they were never favourite at the first. Pep has managed the Barcelona, they were one of the best team in the world at that time and took over Bayern Munich (the UCL champions) but Pep failed to deliver UCL trophies in 3 years at Bayern Munich.

Jose like to win the trophies even if they have to grind out a result, the trophy is more important to Jose than Pep.

Well, Benitez won it in 2005 with Liverpool. Guess he is still top quality. Because he did it with Liverpool, not with Messi.

Liverpool was one of top 5 sides in the world at that time, Benitez is really good managers. I'm talking about Pep and Jose, that's it.

To win tournaments you need luck as much as anything else. That's why trebles (let alone anything beyond that) are a really rare and great achievement.

Liverpool were only just about the 5th best side in England that year.

This is just getting too much - we didn't play very well at all on Sunday and it was only a 2-1 loss. City have had a very good start to the season but do people genuinely think they can compete on 4 fronts, one of which being the CL, and win the quadruple. It's mad.
