No thread on this yet which is surprising considering the popularity of the original show, and it arrived to Netflix on Friday.
I've watched the whole 8 episodes, 24 were greenlit so there will be another 16 spread over 2 more seasons. I thought it was great and definitely had some fantastic set pieces.
2 episodes left. It's pretty good. Just feels a bit empty without Ragnar, Bjorn, Ivar not being in Vikings. I know it takes place 10/ years later. The characters will have some job trying to measure up to them. But I really like viking King so far. He's entertaining to watch.
I stopped watching Vikings and never picked it back up somewhere around season 4 maybe? This was before Ragnar died iirc and from what I've heard and seen I don't feel the need to pick it back up.
I am giving this one a try. Only watched the first episode so don't have too much to say. I like the actor who plays Harald Sigurdsson(?) so far.
I'm surprised at the lack of promotion from Netflix on this. I haven't really seen it around anywhere? But maybe I missed it. It is number 1 on Netflix here today.
I have had no problem keeping up with it and I also fell behind on Viking’s around season 4.
I binge watched the whole 8 episodes Saturday and found it entertaining.
it was annoying me who plays the Hungarian king, so I looked it up. Turns out that he’s a crappy welsh actor who’s been in nothing good. Now I’ve seen it I can’t unsee it
Got to the end and its alright kinda 6/10ish for me, not in the same ball park as the first few seasons of the original.
I like the characters for the most part the plot just seems cheesy by comparison.
First half of the story untill they win in London was good but after it seems they rush it so fast into 6th gear. But that King Folkbear was a good character.
I did that. I watched OG Vikings until about season 4 and then took a long break. I could never get back into after that. They make passing references to the OG series but it isn't a direct continuation or anything, so you won't find yourself out of the loop or lost.

Im kinda the same after watching it. I loved the ragnor storyline in the original series. This? The main characters seem a bit too contrived for me. Leifs sister is bloody annoying too

Yeah, I like the personalities even on the sister to an extent but like they just arrive outta nowhere and next thing Leif is boat captain then 2 episodes later
issuing orders to kings, running the defense of a city and his sister is the chosen one. When the future king of Norway is like "I'm gonna go spy on Olafs camp" and Leif is "No your not, we need you here" I was like wtf...
I know they are little things but its something that irks me with most modern shows, people just kind of end up with these skills because they need to be there, you never see the struggle or how its earned or they never develop into them. Its like "Hi I'm Leif, I'm the best sailor, fighter and strategic genius because I'm one of the main characters". In the original show for the first 4 seasons at least Ragnar had struggles, flaws, made mistakes etc... he grew into the role and its why he became a fan favourite, with Leif (and I reiterate I like his personality), its like he's arrived with all the skills as has his sister but we never see them earn them.
Heres the mc you should like them because they are the mc, instead of watching them grow into it.

The OG series was decent apart from the fact that they effed off you know who way too soon. This one was honestly meh.. As some above already stated there is a complete lack of buildup and you're just tossed into everything at once.
Anyone watching S2? I watched like the first 3 episodes but its kinda boring so far. I don't like the main cast being all split in different locations.

Tried watching after I was done watching The Last Kingdom. First season was all right, second season was ok. The Last Kingdom was freaking awesome from start to finish.

Watched the first season - but never fully got into it (not a patch on Vikings or Last Kingdom for me). Started the first episode of this season but I can't finish it - it's just not clicking with me.

I just can't get into it. It's like I'll start it and then stop it after a few minutes, I've done this three times already and decide to do something else or watch something else

Literally rewatching the last kingdom right now. I forgot what incredible show that was. On Valhalla, similar experience for me. I quite liked season 1 but struggled with first few eps of season 2.
“The Last Kingdom” followup film “Seven Kings Must Die” has set its premiere date at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.
The film will debut on the streamer on April 14. In addition, Netflix has released first-look images from the film, which can be seen above and below.

I watched it, its again just meh for me. Background filler, but this season is also a little more all over the place and less focused.
The entire thing just feels slapped together, like the writer sat down and just penned some bullet points. It moves to fast to build anything solid but it also kinda just meanders around for 3/4 of the season with no focus.
And/or they figure there are so many shows these days people will just finish up what they started and move on the next. Easy money. The Ubisoft/EA approach to TV shows.
It wasn't the best TV but it's still annoying they cancelled it right before the climax i.e. 1066.
The concept of the sequal series was about the end of the viking age. Harald Hardrada leading the last viking invasion of Britain. The final fall of Saxon rule in England and Rollo's great-great-great-grandson being crowned King of the English.
I assume all that would have been the final season. In hindsight, they should have just done that as a one off mini-series rather than 3 seasons of buildup to nothing.
