Victor Valdes

Is there no promising youngster at the club to take over?

Central defenders and keepers are the players the club produces the least atm. Ondoa is one possibility who looks good in NextGen at 17 years of age - should be promoted to the B team for the 2nd half of this season. But he's far off from being a first team keeper yet.

They will have to look outside the club and it'll be a veteran, I'm sure. Stekelenburg, Guaita & Diego Alves are linked. Courtois will be impossible to pry away & De Gea as well.

Could stick with Pinto and perhaps get Ter Stegen to groom into a #1 but who knows. I don't think Victor will be here until '14, I imagine they'll move him.

There are more options. Caballero has impressed me this season. Keeping Kameni out of the team. He did however sign a contract extension just today. 3 and a half years left of the new one.

Sergio Asenjo is another one that's somewhat forgotten. He's only 23. Has suffered some some knee injuries since losing his spot with Atletico. Hardly a bad keeper though.

Barcelona also has an extensive scouting network in S-America. Who knows what they're able to find there.

Courtois i reckon, few rags here linked him to Barca last month. Been playing in Spain the last two seasons and done well.

Not even Valencia's best keeper. Not as good but slightly more consistant than Diego Alves

Actually Moya looks pretty good these days and he was terrible at Valencia.

He hardly played though. It's like United fans saying Taibi is a horrible keeper but only have seen him play 5 times at the most. Fact is he made mistakes in a few games, was dropped for a keeper that was a veteran at coming off the bench and that was that.

It's not uncommon in Spain for a keeper to be dropped and then go on to play well at another club.

I've seen Valencia for years and seen him in the majority of his matches. He's better than he was previously of course when he was dodgy, but he's still not all that. Diego Alves is a far better keeper but he went through a rough patch early in the season making mistakes and overall his consistancy isnt good enough. But on his day he makes perhaps the most oustanding reaction saves in europe.

Guitia is a bit more consistant than Alves but has a fraction of the ability.

If you mean Moya he was a catastrophe, couldnt catch a ball to save his life and Cesar coming in for him saved Valencia's season because Moya was dragging them down. He simply wasnt good enough. He looks like he found his catching gloves after he moved on

They might have to. Of course at this moment in time everything is hypothetical and speculation but he has shown his worth in La Liga at a top club for 1 1/2 seasons now and if Barcelona come knocking on the door, few players would say no.

Better get Xavi, Buesquets and Puyol back to work then.

Interesting wrinkle in Victor's announcement not to renew is that Gerard Deulofeu's renewal has stalled - who coincidentally has the same agent as the keeper

We will probably end up selling David De Gea to Barca and signing Valdes on a free.

The next few years after that will consist of everyone marveling at how shit Valdes looks in the Premier League whilst De Gea gets in the world team of the year every season.

I don't get all this 'Barca will definitely be for De Gea' talk. What basis is there for this?

  • Barca need a new keeper.
  • David de Gea is Spanish and played for Atletico, which is always a plus.
  • Fergie doesn't show much confidence in him by rotating.

I'd say that's enough to get things going.

Think people are getting far too carried away. Also, De Gea would appear to firmly be our number 1 at this stage.

  • De Gea's agent is Mendes who's not on great terms with Barcelona
  • Ferguson started DDG for 9 matches consecutively prior to the West Ham Match
  • De Gea even after this season has three years left on his contract. Won't go for less than atleast 20m Euros.

You never know with players nowadays, De Gea is no exception. Cant see him leave right now and I hope he ends his career here. However, that might be a bit too much to ask.

That may be, however not to United i'd like to hope.

If at some point Fergie decided to give up on De Gea i highly doubt that we would go looking for a replacement in La Liga.

To be fair, Ducker was the guy who wrote we had a done deal with De Gea half a year before the deal was confirmed. I can't read the entire article, just the start which said we 'are monitoring Victor's situation'. Which means so very little, really.

Unfortuantely reporters have to fill columns whether they have anything interesting to report or not, preferably with stuff regarding United. Since we're not the most open of clubs and it's hard to get interviews and such, I guess reporters would resort to reporting meaningless stuff like 'monitoring a player' and editors would use that to create huge headlines.

This is obviously a player who have a bigger reputation and CV than ability. It will be painful for him to realise he's not worth much.

Hilarious journalism. They say we want rid of de Gea because he's no good at dealing with crosses, yet link us with Valdes and Casillas who are also not very good at dealing with crosses. People are actually going to believe this nonsense.

Where are the rumours putting Valdes to? And does Reina not seem to be the most coveted/ talked about GK heading to Barca as his replacement?

Reina is a former cantera player so the link is an easy one to make - I hope, at best, he'd be considered a short term solution.

I'd prefer going younger although there are difficulties with that at a big club as United have experienced even with a keeper of De Gea's quality. Still like Ter Stegen but it's probably just a pipe dream.

No real rumours on where Victor might go but the Premiership seems obvious - Arsenal would make a lot of sense

Yes. It would be very easy. Just need to keep Pique and Xavi around. :D
