Edit: just a thought, if we bought him and it didn’t work out, he’d be a player that we’d find very hard to shift due to his demands

I always think only from the clubs perspective as that’s what should always be at the forefront of thinking and what you’re saying is again what I keep saying is the problem at the club, we shouldn’t keep doing what’s best for each individual manager and should have a structure that provides continuity.

With what we have as a footballing structure we should have Wilcox deciding on how we are going to play as a club identity seeing as he’s de facto Sporting Director and that style should be implemented from the academies all the way up to the first team to provide continuity for players making the step up.

Whoever is head coach should have a say in transfers but the job of the head coach should be to train the squad, pick the team and motivate whilst the Sporting Director along with the recruitment team and scouting department should identify the incoming players for the squad across the board.

What we always seem to do is allow the manager/coach to decide how we set up and comes in then when that doesn’t work we bring in another manager/coach who plays a different way so is left with countless players that are considered deadwood to him then rinse and repeat, the club need to dictate to the manager/coach rather than a manager/coach dictating to the club as the days of Sir Alex or Wenger who controlled all are long gone.

Isn’t this just Deja vu? Napoli know a Saudi club wants him, player doesn’t fancy it, Napoli try forcing it, player says feck off. Napoli panic and loan him to Gala and subsidise his wage.

If he still doesn’t fancy it, then Napoli surely won’t play the same trick again and let it backfire spectacularly again.

Napoli happened they had an offer more than that from Saudi last year
 
The last thing we need is another expensive flop on ridiculous wages that we can't shift. We've got plenty of them. I don't blame the club for not entertaining it.

Osimhen wanted the move last year, Chelsea offered more so Napoli wanted to accept that deal. Chelsea offered significantly less money than even his existing contract with Napoli and so he understandably turned them down flat.

This year he is wanting the Saudi move again and they are expected to come in for him and pay the release clause. Should that situation change he might be back in play but for now all clubs are acting like Saudi this summer is a done deal.
 
Can't see him coming to us, minimal chance because of his salary demands never mind any other concerns.
 
He’d have to take a huge pay cut to come here. I might be wrong but I feel like INEOS aren’t going to be sanctioning £300k per week, let alone £400k pw. And to be honest, do we want that anyway? I know I don’t. We have just laid off a load of staff and cleared out some big earners. I like him as a player, I think he’d be perfect for what we need, but that money is insane and, I believe, a thing of the past at United.
 
He’ll be one of the better strikers in the league but I can comprehend our strategy. We’ve been bit too often with these type of transgersb
 
If those demands are true it would mean around 100m in wages over a 5 year contract, add in the transfer fee and it's fully understandable why no club is interrested in him.

Actually, Saudi offered below that clause (70m euros) and it was accepted. Then the Chelsea thing happened and Napoli ended up burned because Saudi weren’t willing to pay more.

Napoli’s hand is weakened this Summer and they won’t want a repeat of that. They’d snap Saudi’s hand off at 70m euros again, but I doubt Saudi will offer it, they aren’t fecking stupid. They know full well Napoli won’t call their bluff again. I just don’t see them after being fecked around last Summer and seeing how horrendously it backfired for Napoli, suddenly going back prepared to pay the same figure.

If they get 60m they’ll be delighted.

We would have been all over this transfer in Woodward's era. Thankfully we seem to have moved away from chasing lego galacticos type signings.

It's not like Manchester United are going to pay him slavery wages that he prefers to play in Saudi instead. £250k/w salary for 5 years (w/o even counting bonuses) is more than enough money he could spend for the rest of his life back in Nigeria. Honestly i dont understand why would he waste his prime years playing for some random saudi club? Wrong mindset, wrong mentality, let's keep him away from our club..

Good point. Even a Quick Look through various reports of Saudi league experiences gives a sense of how much you’d be selling your soul going there.

He is earning 10 Million Euros net (including reachable bonuses) at Napoli. This works out to a net salary of 165K/week, which is a gross salary of 307K/week. This is not standard for any of the top 10 clubs in England. Only a handfull players in the league do earn above 300.



Here you got a quote of the officially taxed Napoli salaries. It’s nowhere near standard there either…. He is making almost double Lukaku’s wage. The latter is their highest earner currently.

Nah, it’s way more than your 180k GBP calc. It’s almost double that to get to his €12m net per season.

Not the end of the world (I think Casemiro earns around there?) but definitely on the extreme upper end of the scale. Factoring in commissions (agent?) and transfer fees….no thanks.

Casemiro earns more than Osimhen who actually earns €10m net/year (307K/week). Now if Osimhen was asking English clubs to pay 12M/year then he would asking for a substantial increase of his already outrageous salary.

Yeah, not sure why Romano has it down as 12m net? Either way, same ball-park (albeit not sure what commissions that tweets referring to either - agent?) as my calc - i just used the 12m net figure to convert it.

Like I said, not an outrageous salary but on top of the transfer fee, it's probably out of our reach as we're trying to trim the wage bill.

Yeah not outrageous but when Ornstein said not on the list I was disappointed but accepted it's over for good
