His age is only 22, with Bailly 23 we'll be looking for a long-term partnership that I hope will be successful.

Are they just copying the stories from the Portuguese press or is this their own story?

This time it's their own story and from my previous experience they never ever go out with their own rumours so for them to say something like this basically makes me think that this is actually soon a done deal.

More than Jose- when it comes to defenders, our scouting has always been top notch. When was the last time we signed a defender and failed ?

He was pretty decent against France tonight, he sweeps up well and is very calm on the ball, I think his style of play would compliment Bailly's game.

He was there to give Evra a break when he needed a rest(which was rare). He succeeded in that regard. I do not think we were expecting him to be the our starting LB for 10 years.
Calling a 23 year-old signing who stayed 2 years at the club with minimal league appearances any sort of success is a huge stretch.

Credit to United, though, he's the least successful first team purchase that comes to mind.

He cost like 2m
And?

He's really the only purchase that hasn't worked out for the long term.

Heinze is the only other one I can think of. Jones can be argued given that he was "the next England captain" and never filled that potential, but he's had over a century of appearances for the club at this point.

And Jones was great when he was fit this season.

I like Jones, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't consider him a failure, though I have seen people argue otherwise, primarily based on his injuries.

He's played very well when healthy, but when he was purchased he was touted as a player who would develop into one of the best in the world. He's not there, even on his good days.

Wrong - my point was more about our scouting team finding right players for our defence and they did it right incase of jones, shaw and darmian. scouting team can only get you rough diamonds and they cant predict what will happen in next 5 years. We can't put injuries on scouting team.
Jeez f sake. You're actually saying our scouting team and United have never made a bad signing?

How can you say Darmian has been a success? Just to entertain me, explain how is signing a starting right back who hardly plays right back, if that, a success

Re-read my other post and I said put injuries aside, Jones has not improved at all. Please also tell me how he's a better player than when he was 19 at Blackburn? Jumps into tackles instead of staying on his feet, liability more than a rock, reading of the game hasn't improved given his 6 years at the club.

Shaw also hasn't lived up to the hype and has struggled with us, and that's pre injury!

Like I said, we've made good signings and bad and I wasn't talking into account injuries.

I think this is even closer to being done than Morata.

My source being...ummm....Scandinavia.
Swedish site Fotbollskanalen (see Transfer tweet) writes that a deal is very close, and they are quite trustworthy. They also mention a fee of 45m EUR, including add-ons.

I think that is a decent fee in today's market and Lindelof has an outstanding passing range, at least on par with Blind. Maybe the long term plan is to play him at right back? For now he can at least offer cover for Valencia.

He looks like he needs a bit of work but Jose is the man to do it. He looks like a United player and if we can get him up to standard then he's cult hero potential.

That did not happen much at all from Jones this season. Bailly and Rojo both go to the ground more than Jones does.

that's cause he was injured again for most of the season. If he was fit again he'd be lying down on his back more than Katie Price

I will skip over the misogynistic joke and point out Jones 0.4 fouls per match while Rojo and Bailly both committed 1.1 fouls per match.

you can read that two ways. One he committed less fouls, or two, he wasn't in the right position to make the fouls in the first place hence why Bailly and Rojo have a higher ratio.

I simply don't rate the guy and he's had more than enough time to prove himself here. Hence back to the original argument that he was a failed signing, which doesn't belong in this thread so off to the Jones thread perhaps.

According to this Swedish site Lindelöf to United is very close and only small details remain. There is a video where they ask him about it but he refuses to comment.

The guy who wrote it is very reliable so I think this is a done deal now.

Now that the deal is (once again) done, let's move on to things that are actually important. Top 3 United wag?

The one on the left.

He's really good on the ball, first half especially hit a really nice cross field pass into the left sided player that the crowd clapped.

He played the RCB role tonight and looked just as comfortable as he does when playing LCB which is a good sign.

Like the look of this guy but won't believe we are actually signing a Benfica player until I see him holding a United shirt. ;)

That's one of Smalling/Jones gone probably. Hopefully we bring in Keane now to replace the other.

Agreed, and even if he was seen holding a shirt with Ed standing beside him in a tweet by United, I'd still suspect it's somehow done by the Portuguese press.

You'd think so, but because Rojo might be out for half of the season, we might keep them all until Jan/June 2018.

Maybe Jones is the best partner for Lindelof. His flat head balances out Lindelof's round head. Net result = aerial dominance.

That's a good shout, I forgot Rojo was out that long. With our injury record in defence we can never have too many bodies.
