Thats not a bad idea ;) Cragnotti did say he was going to have a big clear out, but I have a feeling we will get dumped with someone like Mendieta.

Give us Lopez, he is a good player who isnt settling there. Unless Forlan proves to be real good, Lopez will bring the tally up to four strikers again.

But really, I hope Veron stays, this whole saga is just way too dodgy for my liking, he just came here to escape Italy for awhile, it seems like he never intended to stay. I WANT THE TRUTH!!

Do you think the constant rumours and quotes from BOTH parties have been tabloid speculation too?

I hate to say it but sometimes these tabloids get it spot on, especially when there are so many clues and rumours - theres an ounce of truth somewhere.

No wonder we got him for so cheap if he planned to leave again....he better release a statement about this and Fergie better act by putting him on the bench of something. If he doesnt, I think we can assume that Fergie knows Veron wants to leave or something.

Do you really think he was just brought in to give SAF his swansong, and not as a long term playmaker? One minute the press print that he happy here and pledging to improve, and the next he can't get back to Rome quick enough?

he's being sold so that ferguson's replacement has a transfer budget - though you will have to take a loss on him as lazio will only pay £20-22M - that money will be allocated to the new manager for signings.....

Has Lazio told you that they will only pay £20-22M? Do you really think we will take a almost £10M loss on him in just 8 months.....?

what bollocks that is <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

The transfer budget will already be there, we get about £30 million a year from the Nike deal alone. + this seasons Vodafone money (£7 million). + Yorke's money (probably about £4-5 million).

That's nonsensical if you ask me. What? United have to sell a player to bankroll a new manager's transfers  What about the 16m for Stam, the 8m for Cole, and the coming 8m for Yorke? Not to mention the amount of money we always have available for transfers every year. We don't have the problems LFC have on that front, and we're not planning on building a new stadium either.

all of u guys are sad,i think its pathetic that u guys want to get rid of veron. <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

the only reason the tabloids are saying veron wants to leave is because he is having a bit of a bad patch right now. Happened with beckham, with keane, with giggs.

I don't want to get rid of Veron <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

from opta

"I hope that Cragnotti finds an agreement with Manchester United," the 26-year-old told the Italian press.

"I am ready to return.

"I wait to see how this story will end."

"It made me feel bad seeing Lazio on television against Milan, seeing them suffering.

"I am proud that I have not been forgotten by the tifosi."

----------------------------

sounds like he really wants to leave OT at the end of the season :(

could be tabloid crap again though

That sounds like exactly what he said when he was not playing for Lazio because of the passport row, just put into a different context.

What a complete load of bollox, Veron is happy, he said so on MUTV. Sure he loves Lazio and would like a return one day, nothing wrong with that.

This is typical of the press when United start playing well. They make up stories to try and unsettle the fans, it works with some.

Veron is a United player and will be next season, along with Beckham and whoever else the press decide are leaving as soon as their toothbrush is packed.

Those are largely comments he made last May when he was involved in the passport row. Used out of context.

he's happy here..

the press are trying to unsettled him

the press will try anything to ruin Sir Alex last season in charge. They can't wait to write thiings about how fergie should've quit after the treble season, and how United have never really recaptured the form that saw them win in Barcelona etc etc Blah blah bullshit.

Veron is a superb player. The day he signed for us, I was so excited I could harldy keep still. He will prove himself a great asset over the next few seasons IMO.

and a couple b4 that. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

he may not have settled too well yet but that is understanderble as he is in a foreign country on his own. At Lazio how many Argentinians were there with him? loads!

Now if we get Forlan, he'll have someone from the same background as him from argentinian football (I know he's Uraguayen but it will give Veron someone to communicate in person with in his native tongue)

VERON WILL NOT LEAVE.

They are saying that he said the fans have not taken to him. He did not say that he said that the Lazio fans are more passionate and harrased him where ever he went, whereas at United he has the time to do what he wants as the fans to not pester him as much.

The fans who go to the games and see him running all over trying to win the ball. trying audacious passes, flicks etc. Tackling back.

the ones that haven't are the fans who are reading the press and beleiving what is being written

Leave him be and he will be fine

Now the dippers claim that they are psychic about all things Utd and Lazio

Clueless cnuts...

Why does that make MOM clueless Inch?

You lot were adamant that nobody would be sold to balance the books after Veron arrived and then went and sold Stam (for 'footballing reasons' my arse) and now Cole.... at the end of the day MU is a business.

So Softlad, you really think that we got rid of a class defender like Stam to bankroll the purchase of a player who we will sell on a year later to bank roll the wishes of a new manager. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

I don't recall saying that you used the cash to buy a player that you would sell on in a year....

I do think that something had to give with you spending £28m on a player - you're not Real Madrid... Stam's book was a good excuse to let the player go and make him a scapegoat for poor early season form.

Let's face it Veron didn't want to be here in the first place. He got out of Italy to take the heat off his dodgy passport and he misses it. I personally thiink Veron will go and the summer transfer kitty will be boosted by the sale of Beckham.... ;)

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> @ the clueless muppet.

Stam played about three games didn't he? Bang goes that softlad theory.

Veron AND Beckham to leave in the summer eh? You wish mate, you wish.

Four games, in those four games you:

Lost to Liverpool in the CS
Won v Fulham
Drew with Blackburn and Villa
Conceded 7 goals

But he wasn't a scapegoat? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

i dunno it sounds kinda truthy.

Veron admits talks with Lazio
4:06pm Friday, 18th January 2002
Juan Sebastian Veron has admitted that his agent and Lazio have discussed a move back to Rome.

In the second lengthy interview with the Argentinian published in Italy this month, Corriere Dello Sport has portrayed a player clearly interested in the idea of a return to Serie A.

"I would be happy to come back home, because I have a beautiful relationship with the Lazio fans and my old team-mates," Veron said in the Rome-based paper.

"I know (Sergio) Cragnotti had a long telephone call with my agent (Gustavo) Mascardi and they spoke about me.

"He tried to find out if there is a possibility of taking me back this summer. They spoke before Christmas."

Veron has not disappointed at Old Trafford since his British-record £28.1million move and his style of play has made the 26-year-old a permanent fixture in Sir Alex Ferguson's midfield.

Veron conceded: "I do not think Manchester United want to sell me for £28milion, the same money they spent a year ago. To be honest I would be happy to back in Italy, but only to play for Lazio."

Veron admits to staying in close contact with the Argentinian contingent at Lazio, including Hernan Crespo, Claudio Lopez, Diego Simeone and Lucas Castroman.

Veron added: "I'm very fond of them (the supporters) because they haven't forgotten me. I am repeating myself, but if there is another possibility to come back, I am ready for another challenge.

"I still have a house in Rome, but it's up to Lazio and my agent Gustavo Mascardi to learn the intentions of Manchester United."

However, Veron was quick to stress he has no complaints about life at Old Trafford.

"I went to Manchester United because I couldn't see myself wearing another shirt in Italy," he said.

"I'm (doing) very well here in Manchester, in a team with a lot of stars, but the strength of the team is the squad. After training, we often eat together.

"I still miss Lazio and I would be a liar if I said the opposite, but I respect Manchester United.

"I'm curious to see what happen in the next few months, because in England I've been doing very well, but I will never lose the door to Lazio."
