Variable Formation Draft

Blocking Beckenbauer and Diego seems like an obvious move, yes.

Unblock Vogts, Rummenigge and Eusebio.

If you then add Ronaldo to the block list, you get the same number of blocked players - and a decent balance for my money.
It's a bit strange that Edgar didn't block Beckenbauer, since he was supreme world class at both cm and cb(even dm). Also Diego played brilliantly at forward/second striker in Argentina, I even think that it was his peak days especially in term of finishing, agility and athleticism(even at 86 he was mainly at ss).

Agree with Vogts, I think he should be unblocked. Rummenigge was pretty versatile player since he had played at almost every role in forward, he even played cam sometimes at National Team.

I think he needs blocking regardless, tbh - with all of Pelé, Di Stefano, Cruyff, Messi and C. Ronaldo blocked, he stands out far too much as a vote puller/cheat code type.

Plus (this goes for many players, of course - but they don't have that much of a GOAT factor), you probably won't struggle too much to make him fit in any of the potential formations.

I would ban the all-time GOATS:
Lionel Messi
Pele
Diego Maradona
Johan Cruyff
Cristiano Ronaldo

Ban positional GOATs:
Ronaldo (striker)
Frank Rijkaard (defensive midfielder)
Paolo Maldini (fullback)
Franco Baresi (centreback)

Complete-footballer GOATs:
Di Stefano
Franz Beckenbauer
Ruud Gullit
Lothar Matthaus

I'm happy with the likes of Zanetti, Breitner and Desailly as draftable. This draft should be all about these players anyway.

I see nobody was discussing it but everyone had opinions

I did wonder why those players specifically without it being all 16 managers nominating 1 or 2 before the draft.

It struck me that a lot of players were particularly handy/versatile but then you had Eusebio top of the list, no Maradona or Beckenbauer... but a whole bunch of RCBs. It was a somewhat bizarre list really.

Build a versatile team

If the goal of the draft is to build a versatile first team, the squad should optimally be limited to 12 players. With a 16 member squad, it gives all the room in the world to pick GOAT specialists with utility squad players capable of stepping in as needed, without losing too much. If we were to limit the squad size, we will see much more value being placed on versatility with specialist players taking the back seat.

Agreed

Agree to an extent, but with the 16 man squad we'll hopefully see some non-regulars making squads and hopefully even first XIs.
