Utd Sign Carrick

bunch of jokers - you guys sound as though you're paying 17 million out of your own pocket. Who the hell cares what we pay for him? Its Glazer's money and he is already in the hole for a lot more so a few extra millions over Carrick's supposedly "true" value is really not a big deal. It's also a moot point that Jol got him for 2.5 million 2 seasons ago. Risk Vs. Reward - Jol took a risk signing him at that stage in his career and now that others have seen that Carrick's got potential Jol is getting rewarded for it.

All those thinking they could have got Mascherano for a "few more $s" are also speaking out of their arse - I'm sure if he was available for a reasonable price we would have gone in for him.

As I see it Carrick is a definite improvement over Fletcher, OShea etc

he would have been another 7 or so mill on top

I'm only stating the obvious that Carrick isnt worth half as much as this! if he turns out to be a good signing then so be it but if thats what they are gonna spend then he will probably be the only signing this summer.

Fletcher>>>>Carrick is abit extreme.

But Fletcher------Carrick (i.e. on par/same level) is true

Definitely O'Shit>>>Carrick.
O'Shit is a pretty good squad/utility player

Hopefully Fergie can turn him into a 17m midfielder!
He has potential and he might be an excellent servant for us, so let's wait and see, give him a fair chance (although i agree, 17m is a bit too much)

BTW, it's not Glazers money, it's United's money, everyone who think they pay it out from their own pocket is a bit naive!

I blame Carlos!!! And Balague

He would be shit in midfield, United failing=you happy, I asume.

giggs played centre midfield for you very often last season and he looked a class act.

he reminded me of john barnes, who was a quality winger but as he got older he moved inside where he could control the game.

and of course i would like united to fail, but that doesnt stop me being objective.

I wouldnt have bought Carrick either, i'd bought a more defensive minded midfielder (Diarra, Mascherano) and partnered him with either Giggs or Scholes

Can't get excited about this signing. If the price is true it smacks of desperation.

If this is true than it's a waste of 17mil. Mascherano would have been perfect and a long term option for a bit more money. Money that we could have put forth when Ruud leaves. But, maybe Carrick will come in and win us over quickly like Alan Smith did when he arrived from Leeds. One can only hope.

hopefully he'll play better than alan smith....for 17 million pounds, i'm expecting xabi alonso/pirlo type performances week in week out. If he plays to that level, then it'll be a bargain for us. Lets get in mascherano now and i think we'll have a brilliant squad going into the season (we're fine up top)..games are won in midfield these days.

I've also heard 14 millions that can rise to 18 millions, based on perfomance.
That would be more reasonable.

we get 12m from Obi, 10m from Ruud, i'm sure we could find another 3m to get Diarra, but let's wait and see, is probably not the only signing.

Although i doubt he'll get much play time if we buy a DM, as i think Scholes and probably Giggs are still picked ahead of him in CM

so can anyone summarise, is this bullshit?

Well there's no quotes and nothing official

Its just an exclusive report

Now where have we heard that before!

Last year Utd finished 2nd.

sold a striker who basically didn't play the last half season, and replaced him with alan Smith and Giussepi Rossi and the Baby Faced Killer. IMHO, they can replace Ruud's 20 goals. If Saha and Rooney can stay healthy, that's a pretty good strike squad,

With Paul Scholes healthy, and now Michael Carrick here, they upgrade the two-headed monster of Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea.

The back line is top notch, possibly the best in England, the Goal Keeper is as steady as anyone, The wings of Giggs and Ronaldo is probably second to only Chelsea.

One more midfielder, and what keeps this team from matching Chelsea?

- One of the clubs greatest ever goalscorers

*Relegation battle for us next season*

Agreed! Why is it United always have to so much for players? At least we held out for 15 mill for Rudd!

my sentiments exactly. bring in mascherano as well and suddenly this team is a completely new beast. We have real talent and quality in central midfield, as well as flexiblity to play either 4-4-2 or 4-3-3/4-5-1 depending on the players form and the opponents we face. compounded to the fact that we know now that giggs can play centrally and is comfortable doing so, he can be on the left side of a 3 man midfield with ease. come on fergie, bring in that argie!

To match Chelsea's team needs at 2 or 3 season imo, as we have a lot of young talents which first have to make the step up.

The more good players we have in the team, the bigger is the competition, which can only be benefitial for United

Strength of squad. But i'm not really looking to matching Chelsea.

Good point.

just pointing out that this looks like a stronger squad that finished 2nd last year.

The 3rd place team, Liverpool, downgraded that spanish wing with an alcoholic, replaced one insane striker with another insane striker, and possibly upgraded Kewell with Mark Gonzalaz.

They're strikers consist of Peter Crouch, Craig Bellamy, and Robbie Fowler.

and their wingers are Pennant, Kewell, and Gonzalaz.

They have Gerrard and Alonso, but with Carrick, Utd can at least be competive with that, and Utd's backline clearly is better, possibly the best in England.

This is a pretty good strong team.

I'm so fecking happy at this! Guys come on this player is the bollocks. Fergie's been tracking him since his west ham days! His passing is second to none and also gets right stuck in there. He's the perfect signing. yes!

Shoulda gone after Lennon, instead, and moved Ronaldo over to the left

if all goes well:

carrick/mascherano/scholes/o'shea/fletcher/jones/park/ronaldo/giggs/richardson

Thats one hell of a strong midfield with great depth

Chelsea's:

Ballack/makalele/robben/geremi/lampard/essien/wright phillips/j cole/obi cnut mikel

We should mount a major challenge this season. As some guy said in the main forum: games are won in the midfield.

surely ship silvestre far away to brazil and pay 15 mill for mascherano

Great news, he's got the presence and ability to play for United. People deriding this without even seeing him play in a United shirt are pathetic.

Signing Mascherano aswell would set us up nicely for the start of the season, especially if Smiffeh is going to be fit.

agreed. Carrick is a quality player. Fergie's not stupid, he's learnt from his mistakes

Wasn't there a report a couple days ago saying that Fergie gave up on Carrick? I could be wrong.
