Utd Sign Carrick

EXCLUSIVE: United get Carrick
Thursday, 27 July 19:37 BST

Manchester United have signed Michael Carrick from Tottenham Hotspur for Stg17 million. The EXCLUSIVE news was revealed on Setanta Sports programme The Hub on Thursday evening.

Carrick is set to finalise personal terms before being unveiled to the media at Old Trafford within the next 48 hours - the press conference is likely to take place before the weekend, however.

Setanta Sports understands that Carrick will move in a straight-cash deal, with no players moving in the opposite direction. The midfielder's desire to move to United is said to have forced Martin Jol into letting one of his prize assets leave North London.

Carrick is set to pen a five-year deal at Old Trafford once his medical is completed and terms are agreed, with no hitches expected at this stage.

United agreed a fee of Stg17m with Tottenham on Thursday after tracking the midfielder for the last couple of seasons. Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson sees Carrick, who was a member of England's World cup squad, as a replacement for Roy Keane.

The news will be a major boost for United's fans with Ruud van Nistelrooy all but completing his move to Real Madrid this week.

If this is true than it's a waste of 17mil. Mascherano would have been perfect and a long term option for a bit more money. Money that we could have put forth when Ruud leaves. But, maybe Carrick will come in and win us over quickly like Alan Smith did when he arrived from Leeds. One can only hope.

This better be bullshit!!

£17 Million pounds-Jol must be absolutely pissing himself!!!

Good player, far too expensive.

Hopefully it's 17million based on conditions such as future success.

SAFs stand and media reports on both our transfers so far are totally opposite.

SAF on Ruud
"If we are going to sell him, we need our value.... Sheva 35m ...etc"
media reports he leaves for little over 10m.

SAF on Carrick
"We have our valuation and we are not going above that"
media reports we signed him for 17m.

am I missing something here

he quite clearly aint, worth 17 mill....no..but shite.....no

worth no more than £6 million! hes clearly an average player and we could do better than that. I'd rather keep Fletcher in the team rather than waste all this money on the overpriced overrated Carrick. :nono:

There's no way of pleasing some fans.

We don't sign anyone and everybody on here is whinging. When we do sign someone (if this is true), everybody complains.

£17 million on Carrick is better than nobody. He's a decent player, and he will show that over the next few years.

Maybe Utd have got £15 million for Ruud and they've quickly got Carrick before Spurs realise that we have more money to waste on Carrick than they think!!

You don't spend £17 million on a decent player!!

Not a bad player..Can be developed in to a better player if he joins a bigger club like United. But £17M for a player with one good season behind him is clearly absurd. Anything more than £10M for Carrick is wastage of maoney.

It'll be good when people like you have to eat their words.

bunch of jokers - you guys sound as though you're paying 17 million out of your own pocket. Who the hell cares what we pay for him? Its Glazer's money and he is already in the hole for a lot more so a few extra millions over Carrick's supposedly "true" value is really not a big deal. It's also a moot point that Jol got him for 2.5 million 2 seasons ago. Risk Vs. Reward - Jol took a risk signing him at that stage in his career and now that others have seen that Carrick's got potential Jol is getting rewarded for it.

All those thinking they could have got Mascherano for a "few more $s" are also speaking out of their arse - I'm sure if he was available for a reasonable price we would have gone in for him.

As I see it Carrick is a definite improvement over Fletcher, OShea etc

If he does the business I don't care how much he costs. If he's not good enough to do it, one pound is too much. feck the price, I just hope he can make a positive difference, thats all.
