Usain Bolt watch

Did that bloke at the start say "Ladies and Playboys"???

Yup that's him finished for the season. Powell's recorded some great times over the last few days in addition to that second place behind Bolt, a 9.87 through the puddles in Gateshead, a 9.77 and a 9.82 in Rieti (despite an awful start), and a 9.72 in Lausanne. I think it shows he's ready to go underneath the world record. The question is, how far under can Bolt go? Given the conditions and his poor start, the run in Brussels was outrageous and points towards breaking 9.60 if he maintains his form next year.

Does it really matter what Powell does any more? He is never gonna win a major gold medal now and that's what truly matters.

Even if he manages to shave a little of the record it wont be as awe inspiring as the run that Bolt produced on the biggest stage this summer.

Plus like has been said in this thread already, it's not about how fast Powell can run, it's about how fast can Bolt eventually go.

Physicist: Bolt could have run 9.55 in Beijing

OSLO, Norway (AP) -A physicist has done the math, and says Usain Bolt could have run the 100-meter Olympic final in 9.55 seconds if he had not slowed down to showboat.

"We estimate that he could have finished the race in a time between 9.55 and 9.61,'' Norwegian physicist Hans Eriksen said Friday in a telephone interview.

Bolt won the final at the Beijing Olympics last month in 9.69 seconds, shaving 0.03 seconds off the record he set in May.

Eriksen, a physicist at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Oslo, said he got the idea to examine just how quick Bolt could have gone after hearing his coach say that the Jamaican could have run 9.52 seconds.

"We saw the final on television and then spent the whole weekend researching,'' Eriksen said. "It was fun. We've done more serious research work, but this one got far more attention.''

Eriksen and his colleagues analyzed TV footage of the race, focusing on Bolt's position, speed and acceleration, as well as that of runner-up Richard Thompson.

Both sprinters slowed before the finish line, but Bolt's chest-beating celebration some 20 meters before the line cut his speed more.

"We don't mean to say that this is the final and ultimate result,'' Eriksen was quoted as saying in New Scientist magazine. "Instead, it's a fun application and simple physics.''

from 50 - 80+ he went the fastest he could
he wouldve probably gone a bit faster towards the end with the momentum

9.55 seems unlikely but he'll break the 9.60 soon

Running ten metres in less than a second is amazing really. If he keeps going the way he is he could break 9:25.

This guy could be tanked up with all sorts of shite, and it'd still be impressive. :D

His physics is out of the ordinary for sprinters ,a bit like Phelps for swimmers

Indeed, it makes very little sense for someone of that size to be so well balanced. Look at Crouch!

Human Mark II i say...

Usain Bolt clocked the fourth fastest time in history for the 200 metres in Lausanne today, despite running in atrocious conditions of high winds and heavy rain. The 22-year-old Jamaican won the race at the Athletissima meet in 19.59sec, one hundredth of a second outside this year's world best set by Tyson Gay in New York at the end of May.

And it showed he was back in top form a year after winning the 100m and 200m in world records at the Beijing Olympics. "I'm in good shape but I'm not fully ready yet," said Bolt, who is aiming to peak for the World Championships next month in Berlin. "I still need to work on a few technical things."

Bolt said he was "not concerned with records," even though he was within three-tenths of a second of the 19.30 he posted in Beijing. The other faster time is Michael Johnson's 19.32 at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Cuba's Dayron Robles, the Olympic 110m hurdles gold medallist, continued his unbeaten summer, winning in 13.18sec. The European No1, Andy Turner, finished fifth, posting a mark of 13.55sec in his last race before this weekend's Aviva world trials in Birmingham.

Anyone seen it? It was crazy. It was raining and he was running into a headwind of .9 m/s.

Really can't wait for the World Championships in Berlin next month, Bolt is going to lower those world records of his again I reckon. Just hope the conditions in the stadium allow this.

Pretty sweet - i must get one!

Bolt hinted that he may go for the 100m record tonight if the conditions are good. Anyone watching this live?

At the moment I am yes. But I`d like to know when he is running cause I don`t feel like watching the entire thing.

I'll never get tired of watching Bolt's events at the last Olympics. Got the videos on my computer -- the 100m, 200m, and the 4x100. Just fantastic.

With the a good start and good conditions I think the World Records could go, but Tyson Gay has ran faster than Bolt this season in both the 200m (19.58) and 100m (9.77) this season.

Bolt on form, Gay has no chance though.

Saw an interview with Bolt a few hours ago. He said that he was currently running at 85% and that he was working hard to be at a 100 by Berlin.

He's going to put on a show at the Championships. Must say I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah I'd imagine that Bolt will get it all together in time for Berlin when he'll blow everyone away in 9.6x. Pity that Asafa Powell's struggling with injury this season - he's faster than Gay and might be able to capitalise on an off-form Bolt.

I do hope we see something special in Berlin.

Bolt in action this friday and saturday in Crystal Palace.

Bolt comes 2nd, behind Tyson Gay.

“I'm really happy with the win, even though Usain Bolt isn't in the best shape,” Gay said. “It was very important to beat someone like that for the fans and the sport. My body worked well today, I was excited and motivated. Bolt has run faster this year, timing 9.82 a month ago in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“I think (today) showed that I wasn't in the best of shape,” Bolt said.

“I'm not unbeatable. I can be beaten and it showed today. This is my easy season. If you don't beat me this season it's not going to happen next season because next year is a championship year.”
