Wouldn't we expect Romney to take Virginia and Florida relatively easily if he's in for a good night?

Well he needs Virginia to have any chance. He will win Florida, the votes have already swung his way.

Ohio has been key for a couple of months and he isn't winning that.

US foreign policy will barely change either way. I think you can go and take a sneaky nap.

I care about gays, women & the poor. I'm going to be fretting until the early hours thanks Al.

Well I am confident the queers will still be gay, women will still have vaginas, and the poor will still be broke no matter who gets in.

I don't know about easily or at lest we needn't be seeing it so early on in the counting, failure in Florida would obviously more indicative of a wider pattern.

Any idea what the situation is in Virginia when it comes to triggering an automatic re-count?

I trust that the US economy - and by extension the world economy - will be in safer hands under Obama than under Romney.

Ladies and Gents...

Early Virginia numbers are always skewed heavily Republican because the rural counties declare first.

Well the poor will have medical insurance under O, R will 'repeal on day one', if you believe him... not that anyone does, but still.

Anyone have a list of the traditional red and blue states so I can see which ones to give to each candidate already?

Wait...538 has the safe Romney and Obama states and that's the same thing.

I hate the first hour or two because it's all inane. "Well, with .05% reporting, Romney is ahead!"

The counties reporting in Virginia are suburbs of Richmond and western areas, which will inevitably be GOP. The northern Virginia and Richmond will be where Obama gets most of his votes. Possibly counties in the Southeast/Tidewater areas of Virginia.

11% in in Florida. Barry up by 11,000 votes.

I was hearing earlier on that one batch of 700 absentee ballots had to be discarded due to the voter not having signed the back of the envelope as instructed. That was reported in the afternoon UK time so there could have been more.
