US Politics

Absolutely bonkers and totally not surprising. The GOP in this state is a corrupt as it comes.

They are essentially changing the election laws AFTER THE ELECTION to throw out just enough votes to change the outcome.

Edit: Oh yeah, institutions holding up just great.

Consequence of electing judges that are party affiliated, I assume this will go to the State Supreme Court and probably the National one after that

What the actual feck? This is a new low.

But the Dems cheated in Wisconsin so it's all good.

It's unbelievable that any time a Dem wins anywhere now it's considered they cheated, yet when the Republicans win it's a triumph for fair and honest elections. It's gone so far beyond any sane and rational thinking and yet again it's social media that is to blame for helping spread all this bullshit. Again, I reiterate I really don't know how the US can come back from this.

I mean, if the dem governor in the state, just told the supreme court in the state to feck off, and forcefully install the rightful judge, like republicans definitely would, if it was reversed.

It’s because Republicans are contrarians, plain and simple.

Likely not in this case. Each state has their own rules for installing and appointing state judges, and in NC it has nothing to do with the Gov.

Gov. Greg Abbott sets Nov. 4 special election to fill U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner’s seat

Gov. Greg Abbott has set Nov. 4 as the special election date to fill the congressional seat left vacant by former Rep. Sylvester Turner’s death — a timeline that leaves the solidly Democratic seat vacant for at least seven months as Republicans look to drive President Donald Trump’s agenda through a narrowly divided Congress.

Turner, a former Houston mayor and Democratic state lawmaker, died March 5, two months into his first term representing Texas’ 18th Congressional District. State law does not specify a deadline for the governor to order a special election.

With Turner’s seat vacant, the House breaks down to 220 Republicans and 213 Democrats, allowing the GOP to win a majority on the floor even with three defections from their ranks. If Turner’s seat were filled, likely by a Democrat, the GOP could withstand only two defections.
Holding the 4th largest city in the country without any representation in Congress for most of the year so the GOP can hold on to their voting margins.
