US Open Golf

Not gonna be Fuyrk's day looks like.

Mcdowell with a nice birdie. Needs a birdie at the final hole though.

Webb Simpson wins. Nine major on the trot to first time winners....the record continues.

Ah bad luck G-Mac. Good effort. Yeah Webb's missus looks fine!

Feel sorry for Jim Fuyrk. Lost it in the final few holes having lead for so long.

Amazing year and a half for Simpson. Two wins and three seconds last year on his way to over $6 million is winnings. Now a major winner, and at least another ten million from endorsements and exceptions, and he will be upto number 5 in the world rankings. Plus a new baby and a bun in the oven...life is good in Webb's world.

Watched the ending of this because tsn's tv schedule said the Portugal game would be on now... But  at the guy running in front of Webb giving an interview and just staring at the camera making bird noises!

Unless it's not his. He does travel a lot.

They can do amazing things over the internet these days

On the contrary, I think players are just getting much, much better. Gone are the days were 2-3 players dominate the Tour.

Yeah, but so often these players come and win a big title and then go on to do so little afterwards. I guess that may be the way it is now, with so many youngsters playing the game that there is going to be this parity (plus in golf you do need a little bit of luck to win titles) meaning that multiple winners are going to be less common. I don't know, I really dislike watching tennis apart from the finals of the Grand Slams because you pretty much what is going to happen, there are no surprises. Conversely with golf the past couple of years, there has been virtually no dominance with Tiger's fall from grace and the dwindling powers of Phil Mickleson, Vijay Singh and the like. I don't know, I'd really like to see someone taking up the mantle again of the undisputed No1, I thought that Tiger might be able to re-establish his dominance again this year, but that seems to become an ever less likely scenario, or in a few years time either Rory Mcilroy (I have doubts over his putting) or Matteo Manassero (who is still [retty young) coming to the fore... I would like it to happen sooner rather than later though :(

Maybe golfers are becoming too complacent having 'made it'. They earn millions of pounds a year and so long as they put some effort in, they have a great lifestyle so that may reduce the number who really dedicate a lot of hardwork to the game in pursuit of excellence. Just a thought anyway.

I doubt you'll see people dominate for prolonged periods. They are all ultra fit and take it really seriously these days. The occasional multi major winner will occur like Harrington a couple of years ago but IMO it will be a lot more form based in the future.
