Here's a thread to shamelessly promote the musical exploits of friends/family/ourselves to fellow caftards. Maybe it could be made a sticky?

This should be ideally limited to "unsigned" acts only (although, does anyone bother getting signed up anymore, or is it all done via myspace now? feck knows, I'm far too old to get my head round the music industry these days)

I'll kick things off with Empire of Lights. My lovely wife's wee cousin is the drummer. He co-wrote most of the songs on their myspace page. He's very talented at the old drumming (IMO) and and a nice lad to boot. So please don't be too hasty with the "shoe-gazing indie shite" comments (like that's gonna stop ye ;))

Not bad actually. I was expecting worse.

Hehe. I reckon faint praise is better than none at all ;)

About 10 years ago I was well into the whole music scene and would have been able to know whether they really were any good or not. These days it's all passing me by, so it's good to hear some opinions from anyone who might be a bit more clued in than my aged self.

I spend a lot of my time listening to music and have done some work in terms of talentspotting for mates in the music industry etc, though having said that I'm not sure I'm exactly "clued in". I still maintain Led Zepplin were the best band ever and they split up before I was born.

Anyway, for what it's worth, here's my twopennethworth:

Decent band, good song writing and competent musicianship. The lyrics aren't quite "awful" but at times are predictable and a bit "sixth form band". Having said that at least they've got something of their own sound rather than trying to copy anyone, though you can hear the influence of five or six bands, and if coldplay can sell a million records then this lot should be able to shift ten million.

I have a look through this thread later.

Good shout Pogue.

Thats not bad Kane. You doing vocals on either of those tracks or just bass?

The musics not bad. You broke the thread rules though, it looks like you have a label according to that page. ;) You lads doing well then?

nope not signed to a label or nothing doing well enough at the moment hopefully going to get publishing then try get a deal from that its a tough nut to crack these days

I think it is easier to get signed than it is to sell records, 100s of bands get signed but never make enough money to live, i know a few very highly touted bands (top 50 ones to watch in 2008, think it was in that mag Guitar or something) that struggle to make ends meet, The Holloways exploded though and i went to school with Rob the guitar/vocalist/harmonica person.

Sorry to be a pessimist, you sound pretty good, i hope it comes together for you.

My mistake, i presumed Flock Music was something. Good luck anyway.

Your totally right though man in some respects, the industry is changing an awful lot though, the deals are now even harder to get as labels want you to come with the finished product i.e an album with the image, with publishing etc so all they have to do is basically get it recorded and go into mass production. Labels dont seem to want to nurture bands anymore like they did years ago. Its sad really :(

Good stuff that.

Oh flock Music is a company alright but its the managers company so if anyone wants to get in touch with him they go through Flock Music. They dont release any of the material etc though. Its a similar kinda of site to the likes of Myspace etc

My band, or former band, but I take no responsibility for the naming of this band however correct or incorrect people think it is.

Bit of cheesey rock with "interesting" lyrics and song titles, can't go wrong.

Japsai and Wizards Sleeve :lol:, Good stuff

We also have 'Good Morning Little School Girl' and 'Mr Chocolate Maker' (which is conveniently about anal sex) that aren't on there because of the stupid limit they put on the songs.

My mates Anders and Espen collected works, the Noggie dub warriors:

Press "lytt" to listen to their tunes. If it strikes your fancy, you can download on the "last ned" button.

And to add to that, if you want a different festival experience, visit http://www.alofestivalen.no/, the feel good festival of Northern Europe. Situated in the Lofoten Peninsula, as music festivals goes this is really something else, scenery, moonshine and close encounters with cod.

Madrugada were good by the way. Kind of like Superfamily as well. Only Norwegian bands I listen to at the moment.

Aye, the only Norwegian band I'd confidently recommend to a non-noggie. Burås' voice is something else.

Høyem as well. Definetely a band that could find an audience across boarders.

Sorry, I meant Sivert :o Robert Burås was a friend of a friend.

I think they're quite popular in Germany... No offence to Germans, but Scooter and Falco ruined the reputation of German music. Not to mention Scorpions... As I understand it they're the only major european country to pick up on them, too bad, a band that had a lot of potential IMO.

Yeah I figured.

Norwegian bands that have potential only seem to get sold in markets like Germany and Japan, where people basically don`t have a sense of music. I think there is something wrong with the entire Noggie music industry tbh. There is no reason why a band like Madrugada shouldn`t get a chance in the States, and in UK, where I absolutely think they`d find an audience.

As per now, with Madrugada dissolved, I don`t think there are any bands that could make it. Perhaps Superfamily have a niche, but I probably think that only because I like them myself.

Ok Fags time to crush dreams...

This is one of our new songs we are workign on, second time practicing with the new drummer and this is about the 4th time we have actually played it through, sound quality is crapola because its using a mic built into a video camera.

I'm over the back appearing to do nothing as bassists do...

BTW its not really a dream... we know we are consigned to pubs for the rest of our musical careers.

Just listened to the first four songs and I'm impressed, sound very postal service in parts.
