I remember seeing on Sky Sports News when they showed each clubs ins & outs on the side bar mention of a name beginning with 'V' in to us for £270K or £470K or something like that last week. I thought I was dreaming it and checked for a thread on here or anything on the United website. I didn't find anything so I though mybe I dreamed it so I didn't start a thread here.

Shows I'm not mad (well not completely) after all!

Your thinking of the defender from Belgium Vermijl

We just signed a 6'3 winger. How big is too big for a winger?

Yeah he's 6'3" at the moment, only turned 16 in may... you can be sure that he's not finished growing, he could end up 6'5" or more, he won't stay on the wing at that rate.

incredible balance and skill for a 16yo with that physique. some of his touches were terrific.

The next Kanu :D

Manchester United anger Ajax by attracting teenager Gyliano van Velzen

• Midfielder is one of Dutch football's best prospects
• Ajax write to United chief executive demanding compensation

Manchester United are facing the possibility of an official complaint from Ajax after persuading one of the brightest prospects in Dutch football to move to England.

Gyliano van Velzen, a Dutch under-16 international, has turned his back on Ajax's famed youth academy and agreed terms at Old Trafford in a deal that has incensed the Amsterdam club.

Van Velzen, a tall, left-sided midfielder, initially informed Ajax in March that he had received an offer to move to Manchester, but the teenager was dissuaded from going through with the move and decided to stay with the 'B1' under-17s' team.

The issue seemed to be resolved until Van Velzen returned to Ajax a few weeks ago and informed them that his parents had decided they wanted to move to England to start a new life. The family, it emerged, had been offered a house in the Manchester area and Van Velzen, affiliated to Ajax since the age of 13, arrived towards the end of last week.

Ajax, renowned for producing so many outstanding Dutch footballers, are said to be "surprised and disappointed." They have written to United's chief executive, David Gill, asking for compensation and, if they are not satisfied with the response, they will look at other options.

One report in Holland has claimed they will file a lawsuit via Fifa, although it is understood they would rather settle the matter without having to take legal action.

The dispute bears similarities to the Paul Pogba case last year when Le Havre complained to Fifa that the 17-year-old had been illegally poached from their academy only for the organisation to rule in United's favour. After eight months of wrangling over compensation, the two clubs finally reached an undisclosed settlement in June.

A spokesman for United said that Van Velzen had been signed in full accordance with Fifa regulations. Their argument is that the player had never signed professional terms and, as such, was on the market. United asked Ajax on a number of occasions to provide evidence of a contract without one being produced.

Hopefully the matter of any possible compensation can be settled quickly and smoothly without any legal action.

Hopefully we can compensate them in a proper way. I hate to see us in the same bracket as the pricks from Madrid and Barcelona.

What are you on about. United have done this for years and years. Every team does it. No one more so than Ajax.

He dribbles too much... he looks like a 20 year old playing against kids.

The kid looks mint so whatever happens its a win win situation for United. If we sign him and we get away with murder then fine, we would add another promising kid in the side who may well turn into a decent winger. If we get a transfer ban then we would be able to change the 'no value' excuse for at least a year or two. ;)

I think thats its unfair if Ajax end up losing the kid without being adequately compensated. On the other hand football is already unfair enough not to make me lose any sleep about that. Is it fair for example that a financially healthy club ends up being piled with a mountain of debt just because some ruthless owner bought it up? Is it fair that some rich tycoon is allowed to spend millions in a club turning it from a rubbish side to a world beater? No. So why should we worry if for once we exploit an unfair law?

Has it been officially announced by United that we have signed this youngster?? I must have missed seeign that if they have.

Nope, although he is at the club and has been for a few weeks. It is likely that the international clearance has yet to be received, hence they can't make a formal announcement.

I am curious how this boy will turn out..surely if he grows to be 6'5" or 6'6", he has to be converted into a striker.

Hope this gets confirmed soon, he seems to have a lot of talent
