Been posted yet? Can't find a thread on this

Manchester United are set to sign exciting Ajax teenager Gyliano van Velzen.

The winger, just 16, is on the verge of moving to United to begin training with the club's youth academy.

United have kept their eye on the talented Dutchman but were not ready to offer him terms - but their scouting team have moved quickly after hearing of interest in van Velzen elsewhere.

The lanky teen has grown up in the famed Ajax academy but United have moved ahead in the race to sign him, with van Velzen due in Manchester to join up with the club's youth set-up imminently.

A clip of him couple of years ago, bascially seems like a left legged ball hogging young Ronaldo.

This has been posted already I think. I'm sure i've seen that youtube video before.

Another winger? Well, considering his age he'd probably get his chance in about 4 years if we signed him soon. No Giggs, and Park could be on his way by then as well.

never heard of him, that kid looks the business

Is he related to Peter Crouch in any way?

Looks like he's playing with midgets in the video, no wonder he looks good!

And all the midgets are really rubbish at defending. I know for a fact I was a better defender at that age (but then, I was no midget). That video would surely feature some hatchet jobs if he did make a fool of Chaka-Chaka (what the guys in my league used to call me :D).

Looks very gifted though

Maybe its just me. I thought from the videos, his movements looks incredibly awkward and slow.

1) Open clip
2) Press pause
3) Let the clip load before playing it

That should do it. Alternatively, ditch your dial-up connection.

Maybe its just me. I thought from the videos, his movements looks incredibly awkward and slow. I mean, i don't see him as a winger, but maybe as a inside player. He's still only 16 though.

Think about what it takes to become fantastically proficient at those movements. I would argue that a player at that age should be doing exactly as he is, because that's the way to perfect the techniques in a game environment, which is very different to the training ground.

The old adage that practice makes perfect is absolutely true. If he is encouraged to keep doing those things as he matures, think about how natural and efficient and quickly he will be able to do them as he reaches the first team.

And that points to a fundamental problem with the English game in general, and specifically at the levels below the first team. The game is often so fast and physical at those levels that it's virtually impossible for an inexperienced player with an immature technique to do anything other than control the ball and then quickly release it. What that does is encourage players to become very one dimensional, lacking a feel for rhythm and an ability to improvise.

Where is this confirmed?

Daniel Taylor confirmed it on his Twitter, nothing on the United website as yet though, maybe they have yet to agree compensation with Ajax and therefore might not have the international clearance.

He travelled down with the Academy squad to the Chelsea game apparently to integrate him into the squad.

United sign 16 year-old Dutch starlet

RFR's Manchester United Blog – United sign 16 year-old Dutch starlet

Several weeks ago, rumours surfaced on internet boards that Manchester United were on the verge of signing Dutch winger Gyliano van Velzen. No official announcement was made, but reports in the Netherlands today revealed that the transfer has been completed.

The player then basically shared on twitter that he was with United and Manchester United have now confirmed that they have signed the player, although an announcement has yet to be made.

Van Velzen looks a giant at the tender age of 16 and is a left-footed, left-sided winger, which is a rare commodity these days. He is a product of the legendary Ajax academy and only turned 16 on the 14th of March.

I wish the lad well and hope to see him do well in the academy.

sorry if it has been posted elsewhere.

He does look good from that video. I would love to see a recent video of him, given that one is two years old.

All the ones on Youtube seem to be 2-3 years old. Wonder if he's got much better and started using his right foot more.

Indeed

united.no confirms the transfer too, their link is ajaxshowtime.com

Exciting transfer, seems like a interesting prospect. He goes into a very good reserve team, where he can develop quickly, bulk up and hopefully he is ready to play within the next few seasons - seems like he already has the technical bit covered. What those youtube videos doesn't show though is if he is fast with the ball in his feet, because that is important for a winger.

Well said.
