United scout Croatian duo

Apparently Kovacic is the player the Glazers wouldn't sanction a £10m move for.

I would have believed this story if it weren't for a fact that we spent £50m in the next window with the majority of them on two young talents with world class potential.

Yea. 10m is not much when you've got guaranteed resale value. Losses wouldn't be big because the wages wouldn't be big.

United not willing to spend 10m on a 17 year old hardly means the Glazers are refusing to sanction the deal.

Kovacic has gone to Inter for 11 million euros rising to 15.

They've got themselves very good prospect for not so big money compared to prices that are floating around transfer market these days.

Is he similar to Countiho that signed for Pool?

Is him why they sold Countinho?

Hes neither a winger nor a striker

Came on for Inter at half time. Not watching the game, just thought I'd say. Seems he's good enough to get thrown straight into the action. They were 2-1 down when he came on.

Seems like he's the direct replacement for Coutinho yeah? Havent seen him for about a year when I watched him in the champions league. Good feet for dribbling and passing but didnt make too many things happen in the final third, despite the feeling I got that he could do so.

IMO the biggest midfield talent currently doing the rounds. His level of ability is absurd, I'd be delighted if we got him.

Yep. Kovacic is supremely talented. If we were to get an Inter central midfielder it would have to be Kovacic for me.

If we got Kovacic I'd jizz. Kovacic and Koke.. there is bound to be a joke in there somewhere.

Kovacic has almost 5 years of contract remaining with Inter...

why focus on impossible targets? Inter did the business... we have to move on.

He was excellent last time I watched him against Parma, and is generally always impressive. Again, another of these players we watched move for reasonable money while Fergie kept with the rhetoric of 'you tell me where I can find a young Scholes out there?'

We're basically rubbish at signing midfielders. I hate those sort of excuses.

Indeed. Some very good midfielders have moved around Europe in the last few years (even from our own bloody club!). I'm not buying the 'how do you know we didn't move for x?' either. It's always a case of 'Thiago obviously only wanted to play for Pep, and would have followed him anywhere'. I think closer to the truth is we either don't identify these players, or are too hesitant, due to our need to speak to the school teachers and former girlfriends of any prospective player as part of our extensive research.

The worst is the "but who is available?" argument I've often seen throw around here. There is always quality out there.

Ferguson was safe in that comment in a sense though as you can find the next man with the potential to be Scholes, not the next Scholes, I suppose after the fact you consider (-Carrick) his CM signings have been pretty shit (SAF) Perhaps he got a bit fed up thinking I'm clearly not the best at spotting potential in CM

I have to agree with that too Roz.

Can you imagine what it must feel like havin your character evaluated to the extent we supposedly do? Do we hire private investigators to rummage through players background & personality ffs?!

I like the way we want good people at the club, but just because you have a few issues as a person at one point in time, doesnt mean a change of attitude cant be achieved pretty sharpish comin to an institution like United. Bout time we started to take a few more risks on players though...
